New York CityArea Coal-Oven Pizzerias
Salvatore's in Port Washington should be added.
Place is city quality. Worth a visit.
Think a Long Island Pizza tour is worth a thought, let me know.

Searching for London's Best Pizza
Pizza Pompodoro is an incredible spot. Was there 18 years ago, 3 straight nights. Live jazz, dank atmosphere, great pizza. It is right by the Victoria Albert Museum and Harrods and is worth a visit.

Which City Has the Best Pizza?
Best pizza city is Buenos Aires, Argentina. Even in the lowliest of places, the ingredients are always fresh. The city sports the most variety of pizza I have seen anywhere in the world. Grilled pizzas, pan pizzas, thin crust, thick crust, al tagglio, al metro, by the slice, whole pies only. Best pizza I ever had was in Naples, in the back of the McDonalds by the train station, but as far as a city goes, B.A. has too much going for it to not take the prize.

Here it be, baby.First, let's get real, who normally goes and gets a pie for lunch at work. It's more about the name of yor blog, a SLICE--first. Your epicurian advice is on the money for the most part, but it still costs too much money! Yet, it is a valuable and worthy service. Back to Westchester and the Bx. I'll throw you one I like a lot, if you do, we'll go from there. If not, whatever....
Gino's Pizzeria, 439 South Broadway, about a mile over the Bx/Yonkers boarder. You'll need a car unless you like to take the 1 and the bus. People from all over Yonkers, including the PoPO stop for a bite at this little hole in the wall that serves ONLY pizza, no heros, etc. Yeah, it's street pizza by the slice, but it's primo.Just tell Joe or Tony how you like it, and tell them Teddy sent you. Enjoy

Pizzaroti: I need help! Got any to give?!?
New York CityArea Coal-Oven Pizzerias
Hey Adam, enjoy your site, but have a serious eats "beef" for you. "Splain how Yonkers, second biggest city in NYS, with a big Italian pop, and with plenty of restaurants, and pizza joints doesn't even have a section in your map, but LI does? Forget Yonkers, all of Westchester is missing. You're kiddin', right! I know you throw us a bone here and there. But you can't be saying we got to go to Mt. Vernon or Mamaroneck for a decent slice. If you need help say so. And don't throw us that second hand Tontonos as a sop! You're better than that.
Searching for London's Best Pizza
Without a doubt the best pizza in London...I've searched high and low, and this absolute gem opened this Spring less than 3 miles from my house! Sweet.
The 'dough consultant' for Franco Manca regularly posts on a pizza making forum that I frequent -- the starter he supplied for them is over 200 years old from Ischia.
My poor prose won't do the restaurant justice, so I'd just have to concur w/ everything in the Bloomberg article. Some of my photos plus other people's reviews are at: http://www.pizzamaking.com/forum/index.php/topic,6371.40.html
Went again last week, took 3 people with me (I think I've introduced about 20 people to it in total). Yum.

Also, you can add Spuntino's in Huntington, which is wood burning. The crust was thin and crispy all the way to the edge (it was still flat at the edge.) They use fresh mozzarella slices, a slightly chunky sauce, and fresh basil on top. And, for about $7 for a 12 inch pie, good prices.

ToddyB: Just added it late last night—along with Massa's (Huntington Station), The Pie (Port Jefferson), and Grimaldi's (Garden City).

Though not in New York, Grimaldi's Hoboken has a coal oven and would fit on this map.

Which City Has the Best Pizza?
This is all really silly. Pizza is Pizza. I don't care what kind it is, Pizza is just plain fun to eat, and what's wonderful about it, is that there are so many different styles out there. It has a lot of variety, and I totally dig that about pizza. It is singly my favorite fast food. Whether you are from Chicago (Which I am), New York or Italy, at it's core is a fun food to eat. I absolutely love Deep Dish Pizza, like Gino's East, but I don't eat that all the time. I actually also like thin crust pizza's and generally I think most Chicagoans eat thin crust more often than not. I've had pizza in New York and although the flavors are different, it's still very good. If nothing else, it has the novelty of being new. I've always liked the fact that when you order a whole pizza in new york, it comes in pie shaped slices. Here, we do the square shaped slices, producing more pieces. The deep dish pizza is my favorite style, because you are just stuffed by it. The crust is so thick and crunchy that it's a major part of the experience. They tend to be monster sized, but two slices of that, small slices, will fill you up completely. They also use very fresh produce, producing what I've always thought were exceptionally flavorful pizza. To me this is pointless to make it a contest, because pizza is meant to be shared and enjoyed. Instead of focusing on the "who's best" angle, I'd rather appreciate the fact we are so lucky for the large variety of styles out there. Pizza is never boring because of this variety we all get to enjoy really good pizza anywhere we go. I'm sure New Yorkers can appreciate our thick crust pizzas.

I was born and raised in New Haven. So with out a doubt I am an true follower of CT "Apizza" as we call it. Pepe's is my favorite. Nothing comes close to the Euphoria of waiting in line for the most mouth watering White Clam Apizza on this God given Planet! I am also a believer in that the pizza you grow up eating is the only pizza you truely love. I haven't found anything like Pepe's in my travels.

Hey, foodinmouth. You're right. The search on Slice sucks, and I'm working on getting that fixed. But if you were looking for NYC deep-dish places on the site, the best search wouldn't help you. I've got a couple items from readers asking about it, but so far I've never run across or heard about a good deep-dish pizzeria in NYC. And Uno's just doesn't cut it for me. The original one seemed fine in Chicago, but the pies at the chain ones here always seem to have a metallic aftertaste. Your best bet might be to mail-order some pies from Chicago. I think Lou Malnati's sends them: $70 for four pies (with shipping included, this is the best value on the site); $37.95 for one (shipping incl.).
I know that's not what you were looking for, but maybe it'll help you or someone else who happens upon this comment thread.

Hey Mgmt,
Your archive search was confusing... and maybe this is a preposterous question, but is there a place in the city to find decent deep dish pizza? Thank you.

New York is best -- truth made manifest with a sprinkling of grated romano.
