The Best Sandwiches I Ate in 2010

The best sandwich at Xoco was one you actually didn't mention -- and one that is not always on their menu. When I was there in September, they had an etole sandwich -- sweet corn, rock shrimp, a little bit of homemade mayo to hold it all together, and (if I recall correctly) a little bit of queso anejo. My wife and I tried five Xoco sandwiches in the two weeks we were in Chicago, and they were all off-the-charts delicious, but you simply have to get the etole sandwich if they happen to have it on the menu when you visit.

Calorie Commando Sentenced...

I'm with boobird on this one. If you know the facts of the story, you'll see why he only got 9 years.

His wife is apparently deeply religious, and she became despondent and suicidal once she found out she couldn't have kids of her own. Reportedly, she'd been that way for years. By doing this, he was trying to essentially put her at peace -- as twisted as that sounds.

@kenji - That pic from Xoco is from a short-rib torta, not a taco. I'm actually in Chicago right now and had Xoco for breakfast this morning. Very, very tasty.

Batali going MEATLESS on MONDAYS... Really???

You'll use fewer question marks if you eat a little bit of meat from time to time.

Seriously Delicious Holiday Giveaway: Southside Market Sausage

I'm in Northern California, where the BBQ tends to be a little bit less-than, but I've got to go with local legend Uncle Frank's in Mountain View. Great Louisiana-style BBQ, with some serious bark on that brisket.

Serious Eats Gift Guide: For Bacon Lovers

See, now you've made me hungry.

As long as we're on the topic, The Pig Next Door runs a couple of bacon of the month clubs. What I like about theirs is one of their clubs focuses on heritage breeds raised on small family farms. It's the best bacon I've ever tasted, and it also supports the smaller farms that really could use the help.

But any bacon is good bacon, and more bacon is the best bacon!
