Cook the Book: 'Gourmet Today'

My first cookbook was a Better Homes and Gardens one that my mom had...it was all about the basics. I still have it. Somewhere!!!

Cook the Book: '660 Curries' by Raghavan Iyer

It was about 10 years ago at a restaurant in Soho. I don't remember what I had, or much about the company, I just remember it was really, really good. :-)

Cook the Book: 'Mrs. Rowe's Little Book of Southern Pies'

Years ago, I spent hours making a caramelized walnut pie (or something to that effect). It looked soooo good in the picture and I was so excited...but I burned the caramel without realizing it and when it came out of the oven, it was a blackened mess and I had to throw out the pan as well, since I couldn't take the pie out of it.

Watch It with Us: ‘Top Chef Masters,’ Episode 4

I always read the recap the next day but now I have no idea what happened on last night's episode.

:-(

Bring back the recaps!

Definitely tomatoes. I freeze jam now, but I'd like to start canning them so I have more room in the freezer. :-)

Snapshots from the UK: Turkish Delight

It's funny as I never realized Lokum= Turkish Delight when I was a kid. I'm Armenian and have grown up on the stuff, and love it. But there is some really crappy Lokum out there, getting it straight from the source is helpful, though I have definitely found some good ones here in NYC. The real good stuff is not too sweet and I've always found it to be a lot better with pistachios.

Sweet Ticket Giveaway, Week 3: Pichet Ong's Guilty Pleasure Sweet

Toss up between home made rice krispie treats or out of the box brownies.

Um, the whole pan I guess makes it guilty. :-)

Cheese 2.0: Small Is the New Big

My fiancé is hell bent on getting some miniature cows for when we move out of NYC next year...for milk and later, for meat...I, on the other hand, am not so enthused, knowing that I'll name any cow I come into contact with, and then will be devastated when we end up taking it to slaughter. He's done a lot of research - there seem to be lots of different breeds asides from the Dexter that will work for backyard farms.

Foods We Loved as Kids, Maybe Not as Adults

Apple Jacks. With the best milk afterwards. I used to live on the stuff. I can maybe do it once a year now but only one bowl (used to do at least three each morning) and then I have to chuck the rest of the box. But the milk is still awesome.

I'm surprised by the Doritors haters. Was never a nacho cheese fan, but the cool ranch???? Can eat a bag of those in one sitting to this day. And the habanero ones they had recently were really good. Though I think I lost a layer of stomach lining because of them.

Stuffed Cheeses: Delicious or Disgusting?

I used to be a fan of pepperjack, but then I discovered cheddar with habanero, and that was it for me. I will say though, it is definitely a matter of convenience on that one.

I had wanted to try burrata for so long, that when we finally got some, I was let down. Eh. But I'm not a huge fan of cream or mozzarella either (gasp! Yes, I know), so my opinion is biased.
