Instant Noodles/Ramen
I like the Mama brand of instant noodles as well. When I was in high school, I would open a package and snack on the dry, uncooked noodles as an afternoon snack. I've only eaten them this way with the ones in the orange bag - I think they are the pork flavored ones. Of course the noodles were just plainly flavored, but still rather yummy...hmm, maybe I should go rummage up some noodles right now!
Seriously Asian: Caramel Sauce
My mom typically uses dark soy sauce instead because it's so convenient for her. Nevertheless, the pictures above seem so enticing that I may have to try to make my own caramel sauce.
I remember seeing Williams-Sonoma selling Vietnamese caramel sauce and thought it was overpriced. This recipe has definitely confirmed my opinions about it.

McDonald's french fries for sure!

Weekend Book Giveaway: 'Extreme Cuisine'
Probably not extreme but really unappetizing: A friend of mine and I were on a trip to Germany in high school and we saw what we thought was smashed banana on toast. So we each took a bite and had a slimy, greasy mouthful of "schmaltzbrot". Turns out that "schmaltz" is just pure animal fat - we should have opened our dictionaries before our mouths.

Coffee Top Caddy: Yea or Nay?
We would get Dunkin' Donuts coffee for group meeting and they either put the creamer and sweeteners in the middle of the coffee caddy (as shown in the picture above) or give us a bagful. These solutions seemed to work well for us.
The coffee top caddy doesn't seem all too secure, especially if you're rushing back in a busy city and can easy bump into others. Plus, I doubt that the employees at DD have the time and patience to place those things on there nicely. Seems like dumping them into a bag or on a tray is the quickest and most efficient.
You live where?
Currently living near Baltimore, MD but Lancaster, PA will always be my home.

Serious Sandwiches: Tony Luke's Roast Pork Italian, Philadelphia
Not sure if the link came through, but here is what I was trying to link to: http://www.philly.com/inquirer/business/homepage/20090303_ONE__WHIZ__FROZEN__WIT.html
Sorry in advance for the double post.
Serious Sandwiches: Tony Luke's Roast Pork Italian, Philadelphia
I guess you don't have to trek to Philly for Tony Luke's anymore? Seems like they'll be coming to your local grocer's freezer aisle.
'Top Chef' Season 5, Finale: All Bets Are Off
This whole season was very "meh" to me, unlike last season where I had a clear favorite from the very first episode (yay Stephanie!). I don't think I even watched a entire episode this time around. At the end, I wanted Carla to win (I like good over the bad, in terms of personality) but I wasn't inspired enough to stay up to see who won. I was more annoyed that Hosea and Stefan seemed more involved about beating and sabotaging each other than winning the competition.
I hope Top Chef turns around next season and gets me into it as much I was dedicated to Season 4 but I'm afraid it's taken a new path with no sight of return.
Top Movies Starring Chinese Food
@justcook: Le Grand Chef was great - just watched it all online! I really enjoy Korean dramas and that film was perfect.
@roboppy: you have no idea how much you've influenced me, muwahahaha ;o)
There should be a new Academy Award category: Best Foreign Food Film.
Top Movies Starring Chinese Food
That movie is like nothing else...I just watched all 11 parts. Thanks Robyn! Now I want to try some Sorrowful Rice!
Large-Scale Enticing Food Smells
@Budmufin: how long ago did you work in Hunt Valley? I'm just asking because I live there now and have been for just 6 months and haven't smelled anything yet. I'm wondering if we'll smell the oregano too.
Large-Scale Enticing Food Smells
If you happen to drive on a section of Rt. 30 in Lancaster County, PA, you can smell strawberry Twizzlers from the Y&S Candy factory (owned by Hershey). I love driving back home, especially during the summertime.
Kellogg's Testing a Shorter, Fatter Cereal Box Design
What I find interesting is that Kellogg's seems determined to keep the same amount of cereal in the smaller box. Most items now, it seems, are suffering from what has been termed the "grocery shrink ray" where items are in new packaging but contain less than their predecessors. Good for them to not deceive the consumers and also being conscious of the environment.
I noticed something similar with a box of Cheez-Its at the grocery store the other week; however, I am starting to become suspicious if it has become a victim of the "shrink ray".

Baoguette: Great Vietnamese Sandwiches in Murray Hill, Possibly the Best Banh Mi in NYC
@dhorst: Here's a blog you (and your husband) might be interested in: http://gastronomyblog.com/category/vietnamese/banh-mi/
Cathy (the Gastronomer) has been to Vietnam many times and has plenty of suggestions on good eats there. I've linked to the banh mi posts but you could easily spend several hours just browsing through all the deliciousness she's encountered during her trips.

Drink Wine Out of Baby Bottles at La Cave des Fondus

Who won? I missed most of last night's episode because of "Man v. Food" but caught the last few minutes at Judge's table.
McDonald's Filet-O-Fish: Yea or Nay?
Womandingo - call me a ding dong but I've never heard of lobster Newburg! Care to enlighten me about this delight?
I guess my aversion to the dairy/seafood combination comes from my Asian roots from when I was growing up, we never ate anything of that combination. Being much more open more now about food, I probably wouldn't object to trying it but it wouldn't be my first choice.
McDonald's Filet-O-Fish: Yea or Nay?
The fact that it is a cheesefish sandwich has always bothered me. I've always found dairy + seafood an odd combination.

Grasshopper, cow brain
Weekend Book Giveaway: 'Extreme Cuisine'
I grew up eating tripe and vastedda (stomach lining and spleen), I have also tried testicles (a bit chewy), aligator, kangaroo, etc...pretty much anything, except for any kind of insects!
Weekend Book Giveaway: 'Extreme Cuisine'
Snake, abalone, sea cucumber, durian, alligator, moose, kangaroo.

I went to an insect foods event in Montreal once, and sampled everything on offer.

When I was young I ate my parasitic twin.
Weekend Book Giveaway: 'Extreme Cuisine'
On a business trip to the Philippines my local coworkers insisted on me trying the local delicacy of Balut(fetal duck egg). While this may sound like the most exotic i'd have to say that really it was later in the night when i ate some chicharon bulaklak which is deep fried and is apparently a fatty sack that covers the small intestine of a pig. It was actually quite good and definitely better than the balut.

Weekend Book Giveaway: 'Extreme Cuisine'
Live grubs in the Amazon. You turn them inside out with a stick, and eat the fatty insides, spitting out the hard head. Yum-o (not).
Weekend Book Giveaway: 'Extreme Cuisine'
Dog cooked in a spicy stew. Raw sea urchin eggs (scooped up from freshly cracked live urchin) - very intense saline taste. Japanese squid shiokara (salted, fermented seafood - very, very slimy). On a similar note: bakasang from the North Sulawesi region of Indonesia (a grey sludge of a very pungent condiment made of salted, fermented fish, similar to bagoong from the Phillipines).
Plus other foods considered extreme by others (based on the comments here), but completely normal for me:
- cow tongue, brain, tripe, heart
- pork ear, blood, feet/hock
- chicken feet, intestines (deep fried, they're great snacks!), gizzard, liver, heart
- goat's feet
- bats (body and wings)
- 'thousand year' eggs
- durian! (luv' em since I was a kid)
- sea cucumber, jellyfish, etc.
But I do have my limits: no bugs, larvae, worms and other creepy crawlies...
Weekend Book Giveaway: 'Extreme Cuisine'
the Phaal at Brick Lane Curry House in NYC. I've finished it three times. The vegetable version hurt the most.
Weekend Book Giveaway: 'Extreme Cuisine'
I make chicken and duck feet every once and a while, but some friends and I are really struggling to give Balut Eggs a shot. There's nothing I won't try, but the likely issue of texture scares the hell out of me.

Weekend Book Giveaway: 'Extreme Cuisine'
pasta with duck testicles and cocks comb
Weekend Book Giveaway: 'Extreme Cuisine'
Wow, considering how many times I saw what I thought was extreme having been consumed by others, too...apparently, I'm not an extreme eater. Insects, those are inadvertant, calf fries (mmm...), toungue, McD's burgers, sushi...I guess my weirdest was sweetbreads when I was 10. I recall they were delicious, but we never went back to the restaurant.
Weekend Book Giveaway: 'Extreme Cuisine'
Lamb tongue. I'm looking for an opportunity to try grasshoppers.
Weekend Book Giveaway: 'Extreme Cuisine'
I'd like to try seaweed.
Weekend Book Giveaway: 'Extreme Cuisine'
i've had fried scorpions on a stick, fermented tofu on a stick, chicken claws, eggs of some animal i didnt dare to ask (though they were black, slimy, and most certaintly tasted a bit off)...
and like others, ive sworn of mcdonalds and all other fast food for a long while now!
Weekend Book Giveaway: 'Extreme Cuisine'
It's only extreme to my husband and friends Uni sushi. I love it . No it's not weird but that is it so far...
Weekend Book Giveaway: 'Extreme Cuisine'
What's with all the Vegemite horror? It's just a by-product of beer manufacture. Beer, guys! Hardly the equivalent of rats' intestines or bear entrails!
Weekend Book Giveaway: 'Extreme Cuisine'
I saw a package of chicken feet in the asian grocery and could not resist.
