Question of the Day: Where have you always wanted to eat ...

per se, French Laundry (I'm a fan of Thomas Keller, in case you don't read my blog too often)...
Other places in NYC (or near it): Masa, Blue Hill at Stone Barns, Babbo, WD-50, and the highly anticipated P*Ong (a dessert bar owned by Pichet Ong).

Outside of NY: El Bulli, macarons from Pierre Herme in Paris, and a ton of other places that I can't name right now and if I ever have the money to do so.

Bunny Bao

Oh it's so darn cute! I think you can make it into roast rabbit buns but you have to change the bread dough's recipe.

Question of the Day: Brownies -- fudgy or cakey? Nuts or no?

Fudgy with nuts! Crisp edges would be a nice addition and slightly warm.

Question of the Day: What are your hometown favorite eats?

Being the dessert loving person that I am, I would go back to Hong Kong and get me some Kee Wah baked goods there! I know there's a branch in the States, but it's not the same... and some real Chinese food, not the crap that comes from some restaurants here. (Should note that even though I'm not born there, it's where my relatives live.)

Meet & Eat: Robyn Lee

I agree with Eddie Lin! Why is she just an intern? Heck, she's graduating this spring and I want her to stay in NYC (hint, hint).

Her blog totally kicks butt. I kind of wish I had her sense of humor.

Ever over-indulge in a favorite food and now you can't eat it?

It's somewhat hard to believe, but I had to abstain from croissants for a good few months before I've eaten them again. The reason why, it's because I wrote two lengthy posts about the "Best Croissants" in NYC, and I killed my love for it a good while. But recently, I'm eating an occasional croissant.

Do you prefer cocoa or coffee in the morning?

A cup of coffee at home and then a latte from Ninth Street Espresso. Tea is for the remaining portion of the day; cocoa is the weekend or the occasional treat drink.

Question of the Day: What food can't you live without?

Coffee, chocolate, artisanal bread, cheese, and cha siu sou.

Thankfully I don't observe Lent and I would not give up any of these foods...unless there's a health problem that will occur in my life life down the road.

Kung hei fat choi! What did you eat on Chinese New Year?

My family made (from scratch) turnip cake, pork and chive dumplings (boiled), braised pork shoulder, and steamed lettuce (without the "fat choy" because of recent articles from HK and China citing that there are companies that artificially "enhance" the color of that stuff).

Coffee Culture

I absolutely love Joe! I've been drinking his coffee for nearly five years. Even though I've dabbled with other coffee shops in NYC, I'm still loyal to their coffee since it's delicious and their staff are absolutely friendly.

Question of the Day: What's the worst meal someone's ever cooked for you?

Stewed chicken that was made the night before. It was then reheated and served for lunch; the result was that it came out really dry and quite bland. Normally stews taste better than the day it was made but somehow, she cooked it incorrectly.

Eggs!

Cakes, custards, flan, creme brulee, creme anglaise, ice cream, fritattas, omelettes, zabaglione, curds (e.g. lemon curd), etc.

Question of the Day: Other people say it's 'gross,' but you love it. What is it?

tripe, pig feet (stewed), sea cucumber, sweetbreads, jellyfish...there's more but I just can't think of them right now.

Question of the Day: Chinese dumplings—steamed or fried?

Hey Adam, you may read that particular post here.

I also linked it up that photo, too for the other curious minds. Any questions, just post it on my blog.

From Talk

Question of the Day: Chinese dumplings—steamed or fried?

I'm an equal opportunity dumpling lover. Give me fried, steamed or boiled... I love them all!

Also, thank you Adam for citing my cha siu sou. :) Probably I'll talk to Robyn to bring some up to you if you'd like.

From Talk

Question of the Day: What drives you nuts about other people's eats?

The slurpers (except when in a Japanese noodle shop because that's an accepted etiquette), the open-mouth chewers, people who salt, pepper and/or sauce everything before they try it, picky eaters, and dieters. I know there's much more but I'm at a thinking block at the moment.

Who's your most/least favorite food personality on Food Channel?

Faves: Ina Garten (I love her recipes), Alton Brown, and the "Domestic Goddess" herself, Nigella Watson.

Least favorite: Rachael Ray, Sandra Lee (she doesn't really cook at all; just reassembles the canned/bagged goods and calls it a meal), and Robin Miller (somehow she opens her eyes so wide that it scares the living daylights out of me).

From Talk

Question of the Day: How often do you eat out in a week?

I eat out for lunch 5 days of the week. As for dinner, probably twice a month.

From Talk

Question of the Day: Who Taught You to Cook?

Mostly self-taught and both of my parents influence in cooking. My parents are good cooks but lack in baking. I'm the opposite: great baker, ok cook. I wish I could duplicate my dad's Chinese bbq pork ribs...

From Talk

Question of the Day: Oink, oink! How Do You Do Pork?

Banh Mi, bacon (on occasion), pork buns, and my dad's Chinese bbq roast pork - it's finger licking good and tender!

From Talk

Question of the Day: What's Your Favorite Holiday Food?

Home made desserts of any and every kind...this year I'm baking cheesecake!

'Good Take-Out Vietnam'

Adam! Great posting, as usual. I love your comic book series; it's informative and funny,
I just question about eating tartare from takeout, though...

Are You a Foodie? A Test

I agree with Acme Instant and ThatGirl.

To add my own: You might be a foodie...if someone actually wants to help but you don't want them to help because you know that the helper doesn't know how to make your own recipe perfect. Hmm...foodie or just o.c.d.?
