italian sausage spaghetti with anything she could find. canned tomatoes, fresh tomatoes, no tomatoes. always with plenty of olives and onions. the ultimate comfort food! (and this comes from a girl who can eat plain rice for breakfast)

Fast food regional items - do you try?

yeah, hawaii also had taro pies (in addition to apple pies) and i think maybe haupia (coconut) pies too. was the teriyaki burger sold all over? teriyaki is a big deal in hawaii! i think china also had taro items on their menu, as well as teriyaki burgers.

Anyone know how to make a decent teriyaki burger?

Oh man, I wish I could help! I LOVE teri burgers, and there are so many teriyaki things in Hawaii! Too bad I'm not there now. We usually eat May's brand teri burgers, but I don't know if you can buy them outside of Hawaii. It seems like a lot of teriyaki sauce involves shoyu (soy sauce) and sugar though.

Gotta be turkey with some fresh pesto and provolone. Scratch that...any cheese is good!

Stately Scoops: What Ice Cream Flavor Represents Your State?

Hawaii could definitely have any number of flavors...taro (because of poi), haupia (a coconut dessert), mango, pineapple, Kona coffee, macadamia nut, li hing mui (a sweet-sour Chinese spice that goes on everything!)...I don't know how we'd choose! Hm, we could even have Spam flavor...

How to Make Spam Musubi

Whaaaa? I've never had it with furikake added, seems unnecessary?Soy Sauce and Sugar.. is a kind of teriyaki sauce... hey have you tried making teriyaki with brown sugar instead of white?? I LOVE IT. But hey, Using a press is soooooo cheating. Come on kids, do it by hand like the pros. (could you imagine a sushi chef trying to show off using a press??)

Bigany... you're gonna die earlier than most just from stressing out about what you eat. You don't eat Spam Musubi everyday, you just eat it once in a while. Haven't you ever heard the 80/20 rule? eat healthy stuff 80% of the time, you can at 20% CRAP and still be as healthy. You'll be much happier too!!

Can you really re-crispify nori in a pan???

Funny... i totally made Spam Musubi Fried Rice by accident! I wanted to see if anyone else has done that

I use cookie cutters to cut food into animal shapes for my g'kids. I have as much fun as them!

PS: My meatloaf recipe is featured on Cooking Mama for Wii!

Play with your food!

I always play Cooking Mama on my Nintendo DS. It's really fun! You actually cook things from scratch (cleaning shrimp, chopping things, sauteing, smoking, measuring....etc) and new recipes pop up all the time. There is also a part where you can test your skills and get medals for doing things well. The DS has a touch screen so everthing is "hands-on"... you don't just press a button.
