'Burger Armageddon' in Miami
wow! RADIUS dethroned Shake Shack?! Radius?!!? I didn't even realize they had a burger. Kinda sucks that a cool burger shack got beat by a froofy French restaurant, but I gotta gets me over there. Yeah Boston!

A person who compares fire grilling to griddling has some kind of moral deficiency.
Boston is a pretty lousy burger town. It's a compeltel obsession with big huge mostrous pub burgers. That said, Abe and Louie's makes a kickass burger.
The pizza at Bertucci's is definitely decently edible, which is more than you can say for a lot of Boston pizza. But, still, even in Boston, there is much better to be had. Agreed with Seyo that Regina is almost as good as you can get, even in New York. I like it better than Patsy's and Grimaldi's, but not better than Totonno's.
to clarify, I like QDoba becuase it has beer. But I just remembered they don't have pork, so that's a point for Chipotle. Anna's and Boca Grande in Boston are better than both, especially the latter.
And Boston food sucks compared to New York in every other way.
You can get good tacos al bastor 4 hours north of NYC at Boca Grande in Boston. Hard to believe, I know....but it's absolutely true.
Chipotle and Qdoba both suck the meat missile. And, yes, I eat at both of them...because we have little choice. I like Qdoba better.
I'd like to cast a vote for the sliders at Pizzeria Uno. Surprisingly good, and they WILL cook them medium to medium rare.
Also, I didn't like the cheese at Fricano's....it tasted like...cheddar?
dude, I've had Fricano's--not the GH location but the Muskegon--and it is NOT that good. Very dry...though I admit I didnt laod up on toppings. I think I had plain and pepperoni. The crust was crackery like a domino's thin crust, not crisp and pliable and chewy like grimaldi's.
Not bad, but certainly nothing to rival New York/New Jersey pizza.
After reading your great article on West Michigan Pizzerias, I must point out that you missed one. I don't want to sound like I am playing down how good Scrib's and Fricanos are because they are both great but if you are in the area, you owe it to yourself to also try The "Twist" at Bernie O's Pizza. It's in North Muskegon. If your folks live in the area, they will know where it is. I grew up on both of those pies but the Twist is completely different In fact, it's unlike any other pizza you have ever had and kinda hard to describe. I am sure your first question is , "well, what's on it?" I can tell you but your first response will be (as most of my friends are) " I don't think so, I am not realy into________" Which is ok because so does everyone else before they try it. Afterwords...., well, I'll let you be the judge. Long story short, due yourself a favor next time you are in town, try a Twist.
Whataburger (the Texas chain)
I love hamburgers and never miss a chance to try a new one and never had a hamburger I didn't like. I read about hamburgers from all over the world.
But I never enjoy any hamburger at any price as much as a Whataburger. If I eat a Whataburger and nothing else I don't care if I eat another thing the rest of the day.
The Black Angus burger at Stoudt's brewpub in Adamstown PA is sublime. It's all about the bakery fresh roll baked on-premise
I've been in Texas for 2 years and apparently a great Texas burger is a very thin, wide, well-done cooked piece of meat, and sometimes topped with tostadas or beans, etc (man, that's funny!)...definitely not my "thing". However, even though MOST of the folks in Texas don't seem to know much about great burgers (for god's sake Whataburger is the most popular burger chain here and they are awful). There is a really good local place that just opened up calleD BIGZ Burger Joint. Although most locals will slam the place because it's owned by a popular local gourmet chef and it caters to the local Hummer yuppie crowd, the burgers here are thick (each patty is 8 oz), cooked perfectly as a burger should be just as the menu says "with a little pink inside unless requested otherwise" , juicy and very, very tasty. It actually gives Fuddruckers, which is by far and away one of the best burgers you can get ANYWHERE, a run for its money.
Although I can't endorse Steak 'n Shake (I've tried them at two locations and they were average burgers to me), I do give a thumbs-up to Fuddrucker's. Several people mentioned that they used to be better (I agree) but they still can make a good burger.
One place I haven't seen mentioned is a chain that's mainly in the South (but expanding) called Backyard Burgers. I've been to two locations and one is better than the other but both offer a tasty burger. They use Angus beef and the toppings are always fresh. A regular cheeseburger is delicious but you can also get a 'Black and Blue' burger that has a blue cheese topping or a portobello and Swiss burger that is excellent. They have a website with pics of some of their offerings. Just search 'Backyard Burgers' and you'll find it. They have other menu offerings that aren't included on the website.
Chili's, Uno and great hand ground, fresh bacon cheeseburgers at Plan B Burger, West Hartford, Ct.
Another recommendation for "The Counter" (web: thecounterburger.com)... if you can make it to one of their few locations. I was a happy customer in Plano for a few months before I moved. Good meat, not overcooked, and with a wide choice of toppings. I think you'll find it good competition for Red Robin and Ruby Tuesday.
Try a restaurant chain called: 'ninety-nine' or 99 - (I'm in Mass & I think they're in New York too)
I had a really great cheesburger there last week, and I was pleasantly surprised at how really great it was. Maybe I just got lucky!
And regarding APPLEBEE's... I too had my first & last burger there about a month ago. It was so salty I only ate about 3 bites and had to stop. So GROSS

A burger joint that My wife and I like is down here in Altanta. But the chain started in Washington D.C. It's called 5 Guys Burgers. The burgers are hand made and the meat is a very good quality. The ingredients are also very nice. No soggy lettuce or mealy tomatoes. One thing I like is that the fries are made fresh every day. They are not flash frozen and trucked in. In fact in the front of the store you can actually see them cooking your burgers in a pretty clean atmosphere and making the fries.
When it comes to burgers I really believe that the K.I.S.S. principal rings true. The best burgers are simple no avocado or chipolte cheese or wasabi mayo just honest down to earth ingredients that are fresh. I think alot of restaurants want to out- fancy their competitors and offer ridiculous
sides or over the top ingredients. In many cases I feel they are masking
inferior product. Like the Jack Daniel's everything at TGI Fridays. You don't need organic beef or artisanal bread buns to make a good hamburger you just need flavor, freshness and simplicity!!
Hello
Im from Rio Grande City, Texas, but now I live in San Diego, California. I have two suggestions for the burger taste test. The first one is WHATABURGER they are found in Texas maybe one in Oklahoma some in New Mexico and Arizona. Whataburger is 100% American ground beef with the bun lightly toasted or ordered to your preference. The lettuce is always fresh as the tomatoes and the fries are great crispy and golden. I have never eaten one that i had to complain or met any one that said differently about it. Other people that I have met that are not from Texas said when they drove through Texas they tried it and they loved it I think you would be pleased after havong one. They have regular, double, triple, or WB Jr. The other one is IN N OUT Burger which i think they are mainly in California. Their burger are not as big as TGIF´s or those kinds of resturants that have big burgers, but the taste is worth every bite. They have from a regular burger to a 4x4 four meat four chesseburger. The burgers same as Whataburger, In n out burgers are made when ordered. They also make their fries they are not frozen you can even see as one the cooks slices the potatoes with the slicer. I think you should really travel down to Texas and California and have one of these burgers. Every time I go home i dont eat any other burger than WB and on the way back i pick some up for the road, but they never make it to California.
