Post-Mortem: Last Issue of Gourmet, With Subscription Offer?
I was amused to get that in my issue too. I wonder what they'd do if someone took them up on it :-)
Tasting P.B. Loco's Wacky Line of Peanut Butters
I really like their chocolate chip cookie dough flavor, it surprised me a lot. I was pretty disappointed with the dark chocolate peanut butter, it tasted like cardboard mixed with chocolate. I may have to try the cocoa banana again, I never got past the chemical-like taste.

Cakespy: Homemade Candy Corn
I made these over the weekend and they came out great. Everyone loved them. I did use vanilla bean paste instead of vanilla so it had a richer taste, but other than that, they were very tasty. I need to do some work on making them hold together better, but I only had about 1/4 lose their tips. I did discover if I lightly misted the rolls with cold water before pressing with the rolling pins, it helped stick together better.

Cook the Book: 'Tacos'
I don't know if this counts as a good taco memory, but for me the most memorable time I've had regarding tacos was the time a friend introduced me to Sriracha sauce (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sriracha). I hit the ground running and have never looked back, I use that sauce in so many applications now, but always with my tacos !
I guess the only other memory I could offer would be one from just a year or two ago when I was making tacos and my partner commented on how messy my tacos were when compared to his and I stated 'If a taco isn't messy, it isn't a taco!' That gets brought up every time Imake us tacos now ;-)
The Original Muffin Top Tin
I've had one of these for years now. What I tend to use it for is 'leftover' batter. Often I'll make a double batch of muffins or cupcakes when going to a large gathering or convention, and sometimes there won't be enough batter left for a whole pan of muffins/cupcakes so I'll use this pan to make something a bit more whimsical to finish out the trays with (or to eat - yum). Works out great and amuses me, so what else is there :-)

There was a parody book out a number of years ago "Patty and Selma's Guide to Cooking with Tobacco" so I gotta go with it being their main food source :-)
Served: Waitress Fantasy
You get that dynamic in tech support too. Many years agoI used to work as a Tech Supervisor for an ISP and I constantly had guys hitting on me. Sometimes they'd ask me out on dates, sometimes they'd want to send me gifts (including one person that offered to send my whole team a dinner delivery if I'd go out with him), one time a customer actually invited me on a cruise! You have to turn them down of course, but it's always weird how people seem to grasp onto any friendliness as "oh wow, they must like me!". Kind of says something about our society when even a smattering of kindness from a female can be construed as interest on the females part.
The Sweet Lowdown
Sugar! Sweet n Low tastes nasty if you accidentally get a bit by itself, and not much better mixed with beverages.
Some Hershey's Chocolate Using Cocoa Butter Substitutes, Not Real Cocoa Butter
I conducted a blind taste test locally with new and old kissables, just to make certain my biases weren't causing the results to be skewed, and the old formula (my last bag *sob*) won, hands down. I'd noticed a few months ago that the ones I'd purchased at a new store weren't tasting like they used to, but I chalked it up to possibly being stored improperly at the store and thus changing texture slightly - until I heard about the change on candy blog a month or so ago. I'd already stopped using them in my baking and out-of-bag candy consumption since something wasn't right with them, I suppose it's good to know for sure now. Disappointing though, especially since when I called Hershey's last month about it I was given the runaround and a party line of 'we as a company are always striving to evolve and meet the consumers needs and desires with our products'. Yeah right.
Adventures in Lame Marketing, Part Whatever
*sniffle* I feel so cheated, the progresso chicken broth sample I was sent this week came in plain ol cardboard!
Photo of the Day: What Is This?
I seriously can't believe I guessed right! The pooling near the plastic doodad and the little bubble made me think it was, but I figured surely I was wrong and it was going to be something sweet :-)

Happy Birthday, Instant Ramen
I like to serve mine (usually beef, sometimes chicken) as a side dish these days, I'll drain them and then mix in the seasoning packets along with my own seasonings (roasted garlic, chili powder, herbox bouillon, roasted onion powder, and whatever else I come across in my shelves). Yum! A great bed for steaks and baked chicken.
Served: My Plea To Tip Kindly
I have an odd thing to add about tipping. Sometimes people tip well but someone snakes their tip before it can get to the waiter/waitress. I still vividly remember one time when I was on vacation in the mountains and I went to this little diner type place for dinner. The waitress was very friendly and the food was decent, I'd stayed almost 2 hours drinking my beverages and snacking on food (the place was fairly empty anyway), and the waitress had encouraged me to stay as long as I liked, chatting me up about her kids, her dog, the locals, etc. I ended up tipping $10 on my $10 bill (left two $10 bills). Then I got up to use the restroom before leaving and as I came back, I saw the busboy clearing my table - including sticking his hand in the check, snagging one of the $10 and sticking it in his apron! So I was left with a dilemma, leave like that and have her think I was a cheap tourist, or cough up some more $. I decided to cough up more $ obviously, but just bear in mind, if you don't grab the check quick enough, it may not always be the customer being cheap, someone may have decided to steal your well earned $ :-(

I'm quite glad to see this, I saw these at the store this weekend and had considered picking some up next week. I'll be skipping them now :-)
'Next Food Network Star' Runner-Up Adam Gertler Gets His Own Show
I'm kinda glad actually, despite it knocking holes in the whole 'one winner per run' concept, Adam deserved a shot at a show, he has a lot of charisma and decent cooking skills as far as the editing showed. Besides, it isn't like most of the winners last past one season*, so they might as well hedge their bets.

yeah, me too. i was surprised that it wasn't more of a finale type issue. maybe they already had the majority figured out before the news hit? boring cover too.
Tasting P.B. Loco's Wacky Line of Peanut Butters
I'll be honest: I don't hate the flavoured PBs, but I wouldn't want a whole jar. Give me some natural crunchy PB and I can make ALL those flavours, plus a straight PB sandwich.
Just surprised they haven't made a bacon flavour yet...
Tasting P.B. Loco's Wacky Line of Peanut Butters
I haven't heard of PB Loco this far up North, but White Chocolate Wonderful by PB&Co. is divine.
I second that! I can attest to the greatness of PB & B(acon). Peanut Butter and crispy bacon sandwiches are fantastic not only in taste but in texture. I'd buy it if it came jarred, but it's probably not difficult to make your own.
Weekend project mystery solved.
Tasting P.B. Loco's Wacky Line of Peanut Butters
When I was a kid, I adored a peanut butter that my grandmother used to buy - it was peanut butter with bacon bits in it. I'd say that unless the bacon boat has completely left the dock, it might be time for a comeback.
Tasting P.B. Loco's Wacky Line of Peanut Butters
@aharste and everyone. Even better, just add a tablespoon or two, depending on taste, to the water of a chicken ramen soup mix (the cream of chicken flavor is best, I think) and the cheapest 5 oz. can of chicken you can find, and curry powder to taste. A little S&P: amazingly good and filling, for not much $.
Tasting P.B. Loco's Wacky Line of Peanut Butters
Even when I was seven, I always thought that the jars of Goober looked like someone had barfed their peanut butter and jelly sandwich into the glass.
These fancy peanut butters always sound better on the label than they taste.
Tasting P.B. Loco's Wacky Line of Peanut Butters
The only "gourmet" peanut butter I've ever tried was PB Co's cinnamon raisin, and was very disappointed. It was way too sweet, and had a very unpleasant grittiness. I also expected the raisins would be soft and plump, but they were very hard. I will just stick to my Krema natural crunchy from now on.
btw...Does anyone remember the "Koogle" brand of flavored peanut butters from back in the 70's? There was chocolate, cinnamon, and banana I believe.
Some Hershey's Chocolate Using Cocoa Butter Substitutes, Not Real Cocoa Butter
Hershey's was good for what it was when it started: bringing chocolate to America and by combining it with more sugar and milk they made it cheaper for people without tiaras to enjoy, but man, its been hundreds of years since that! sometimes I'm so embaressed for our country. its so obvious all we care about is profit. we make the worst chocolate in the world and not only do we not know, but most of us don't care. : ( its sad.

'Next Food Network Star' Runner-Up Adam Gertler Gets His Own Show
I loved Adam. I have watched his new show several times. His humor is fun and he is great on camera but I would definitely like to see him do a cooking show. He is like Guy in that his real appeal is as a personality. I think he will be another star like Guy and will be one to watch- I am sure that Will Work for Food is just the beginning.
I have to agree about Aaron. He just isn't that interesting on his show- I have seen it several times and am just not that impressed or interested in watching it again. He still feels stiff and forced on camera to me and doesn't really have anything compelling to teach as far as food goes. He is another FNS dud like all the others execpt Guy. I think they have had a hard time picking the right winner every season but the second. JAG should have won Season 3 but he took himself out. I would still love to see him get a show on FN. I would like to see Lisa get a real cooking show too. She actually knows food and would bring a different element that is currently in short supply on FN. Aidia, Sonny, Aaron-- all duds

We were visiting the West Coast when we first came across Fish Tacos. Being from the Midwest (and this was a long time ago) we'd never heard of them and were quite leery of trying them. After some serious nudging from local friends, we broke down and gave them a try - and WOW! We've been practically addicted ever since!
