Seriously Delicious Holiday Giveaway: Bacon of the Month Club

I enjoy my bacon a little crisp but chewy. To be honest, I just love bacon and will eat it any way that it is cooked. I also love the smell of bacon, wow.

What foods warm your heart?

A nice cheesy homemade baked macaroni and cheese. A thick piece of lasagna. BBQ ribs off the grill. Pecan pie!

Thanksgiving dessert, I'm serving pie and ______

Hey Jerzee Tomato, The coconut raspberry cake sounds delicious. If you don't mind sharing the recipe I might make that for Thanksgiving. Are you from New Jersey. I'm from Belleville.

Thanksgiving will not be complete without----------pie

My favorite pie is pecan but growing up my mother always made sweet potato pie. As for cake it is my mother's carrot cake. I'm going to look online for some new recipes and try to make something new. I'm not a good cook so it will be challenging but a welcomed challenge.

OMG that is too funny. I hope the cake atleast tasted good.

Would you rather cook or be the guest?

This is a no brainer for me. I can't cook well or do I want to, so I rather be the guest. Hopefully the food is good but that is the chance you have to take.

A trip down memory lane: What food makes you smile?

My mother's three layer carrot cake with cream cheese frosting with nuts in the frosting not in the cake. She was making carrot cake before it became so popular. I can remember when I was in grammer school and for bake sale she used to make a homemade carrot cake while most other parents made boxed cakes. Staff members of the bake sale used to fight over who would get to buy the cake. Her cake never made it to the table for sale. I didn't think it was fair but I guess it was a compliment. My mother has since passed away and I thank her for leaving me the recipe. Love you mom.

Guilty Pleasures

I enjoy marshmallow peeps also. But instead of eating them fresh and soft I open the pack and let the air get in and wait a day or two until they get hard. They have a chewy delicious texture when they are hard.Try it you might ENJOY IT!!

I miss Taco Bell's three-olive enchirito - what do you miss?

I can't eat Taco Bell anymore and I don't miss running to the bathroom. Yeeesh!

From Talk

Shrimp Veins

I prefer the shrimp to be deveined. If it is a very small shrimp I can deal with the vein but it is a extra large, jumbo or collosal shrimp it has to be deveined. Actually, I thought the black vein was the poopy sac and if it is that's gross and maybe I won't eat the small shrimps after all.

The holidays are coming...what is your favorite beverage?

A cold glass of eggnog. There's nothing like thick cream sliding down your throat. Yum.

You all will love this story. My Uncle's Mother-in-law went to pick up a cake from a local bakery. They got it home and it was Styrofoam with icing on it. They packed up their display cake and sold it to them as a real cake. The humor is they were too ignorant to return it and get their money back.

I miss Taco Bell's three-olive enchirito - what do you miss?

I am just amazed that only one person mentioned the Taco Light! I miss the olives on the enchirito, but I can't believe they have never brought back the Taco Light. Maybe change the name because it was anything but, maybe Flour Taco Supreme. When I was young I had to wait until I visited my sister in New Orleans for any Taco Bell, so upon arrival I ordered an enchirito w/ extra sauce and a Taco Light add onions.

I miss Taco Bell's three-olive enchirito - what do you miss?

I used to love the light version of the 7-layer burrito. They still have the full fat version, but I loved the illusion that I was being healthy when I chowed down on the light version.

i miss the gordita crunch... some of the taco bell's in my area still offer it, but you have to ask for it since its not on the menu. :)

Shrimp Veins

I pull out the top and bottom. I figured the dark thing was poop, but never confirmed. I pull out the bottom as well so I can straighten the shrimp out so it's not as curled. All I use is a fork tine to dig in and pull them out.

From Talk

Shrimp Veins

I see that orange stuff all the time in my shrimp. I devein because it looks gross otherwise, but I don't get too fussy about it. I slit the backs with a sharp nice and pull out the vein. It makes them much more receptive to brining and or rubs or seasonings, and also much easier to peel.

From Talk

Shrimp Veins

The "vein" running down the back of the shrimp is the digestive track; the one running underneath is their nervous system.

@LoveTheHollandaise - it's likely the orange stuff in the veins is actually shrimp eggs. Nothing wrong with them other than a good case of reproduction.

From Talk

Shrimp Veins

I've been eating shrimp all my life and saw something tonight I've never seen. In a bunch of tiger shrimp I was deveining, about half of them, instead of having a black vein, had something that looked like orange puss. It was the color of salmon. Anyone ever see this or have any ideas? I also noticed that those shrimp had legs that were a salmon color as well, where as the other half had legs the same color as their shell. It is just what they are eating that make the contents of the digestive tract orange-ish? I was worried they might have a disease or be infected with something. I know that the salmon fish, and flamingos, are the colors they are because of something they eat. Think it's the same situation?

As Vincent Vega so eloquently phrased it in "Pulp Fiction":

"Bacon tastes goooood..."

Either way...crisp or plient...bacon is magical in any form!

Gorgeously crisp, with a nice fatty streak that melts in your mouth. Mmmmm. No wonder there are so many "bacotarians" (vegetarians who make an exception for bacon).

I like my bacon crisp, but with a little give to it. I usually buy from the local farmer's market so it's a thicker cut.

i'm going to be 'that girl' here and say in between. i don't like bacon that is so crisp it crumbles, it's got to have that little bit of chew so it doesn't fall apart in a blt!

From Serious Eats

Seriously Delicious Holiday Giveaway: Bacon of the Month Club

It depends on what the bacon is for - if I am making it to crumble over my salad then crispy. If it is simply to go with my eggs - pliant

OMG, I adore bacon. When I was pregnant with my daughter that would sometimes be what I had for dinner :D Crispy, please!

Although I can't speak for it personally, one of my best friends once dredged cooked bacon in maple syrup, covered it in pancake batter and deep fried it...definitely a heart attack in strip form!

Ohhhh baconbaconbacon! I love my bacon when it turns that crispy, melt-in-the mouth reddish brown with that beautiful fringe of translucent fat. I may in fact *require* the BOTM club, but I'm not sure.
