Anybody a Freegan?
Never heard of this trend before today. Vegans who only eat food obtained for free i.e. dumpster diving.

I would like to know how to make half sours. I can't get them in my part of the country.
DigitalBurro,
I will see you in rehab. I have all except for the book and the salad spinner.
Karen, the title was No Reservations
I made this last night for our Halloween dinner. The family thought I was SO creative. Thanks for the heads up.
Oh, and she totally pulls off Julia without ANY problems.
Oscar buzz... you heard it from me first.
So... I don't know if technically I'm allowed to say this, but I saw a screening tonight and absolutely LOVED IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Meryl Streep & Amy Adams are fantastic and the movie is well directed with fantastic moments throughout. You would be a fool if you loved food and did not go see this movie. Wait... Correction, anyone who doesn't go see this movie is a fool. I can't believe it doesn't come out until 09! I'm calling my mom tomorrow (avid food fan) to tell her she needs to be there on opening day.
No Joke. It is WONDERFUL!
(and I'm not going to say anything else or I might get sued.)
Also, I DO NOT work in the entertainment biz. I'm just a girl who saw a GREAT movie!!!!!!!!!
as a child in the 80's my mom filled my brown paper sack with pomegranut seeds, homemade pita pockets with sprouts and roast turkey, amazing things that, until recently i thought was normal.. No fast food ever in my existance as a child, except for braums.. but.. its more of a dairy store.
@LearP - just the concept of meat being shrink wrapped for who knows how long freaks me out. And what do they put on it to make it last long enough? I went to whole foods to buy sliced deli turkey that was organic with no preservatives and guess what...a week later it was GREEN!
That's odd, it seems like almost all of the people on here are Coke people. Coke is for refined people, Pepsi is for not so refined people?
um yeah...
I am a DIE-HARD Hellman's/Best Food's girl. If you get Miracle whip anywhere near me I will vomit.
to ScienceintheCity. The reason they call miracle whip that (it's a spread) is because it doesn't contain enough oil to be called a mayonnaise. Ewwww.
I'm for coke, not pepsi, heinz or nothing (del monte is totally tomato water), kraft mac...with ketchup.
scrapple...gag me.
I grew up in a no cook house my mom hardly ever cooked we had pizza in a restaurant at LEAST 3 times a week. When we had company my mom would cook, she makes a killer pasta sauce. Now she is still the queen of processed food and ADORES frozen meatballs- she uses them in everything. I cook almost everything organic and natural but my kids love mac in cheese from a box so it is hard to be a food snob as i never grew up with the yummy food so many of you had. I try to try at least one new item a month (this month is lemon grass) but I never have a "one of those people" thought as I am that person.
Although I love diet coke more then diet pepsi.
@carolrsf: If you're from CA, all soda is "Pepsi" no matter what variety. And of course if you're from the midwest it's pop.
I feel redundant but I have to jump on the anti- White Zin, well done meat, Miracle Whip, bottled dressings band wagon. But then again I have an occassional craving for Kraft mac and cheese and even that nasty Chef Boyardee ravioli, so I am no one to judge and I don't think that my tastes are any better than another persons, thus people are spared any lecture from me, but I will insist they try each others food, You never know who you can convert.
I didn't grow up eating junk food so I never have that big of an urge for it but I was always amazed by my friends families who bought bags of name brand cookies, since the cookies were so small. We had a family of five so it was generic everything and big bags of it too.
On that same note: My sister insists tuna is cat food and wont go near the stuff.
Coke NOT pepsi. I'm from Tx and no matter what carbonated soft drink you're going to have, you call it a coke. For example; I'm going to get a coke does anybody want one? What kind? I grew up Miracle Whip and margarine. Now I'm totally butter and real mayo (often a homemade garlic aioli).
If you can make it yourself, why use a box? The process and flavor just do not compare. Boxed mashed potatoes? Gross. Bisquits in a can? Seriously people, are these things hard? My 11 year old son can make buttermilk biscuits better than mine (which I love). My daughter is 23 and wouldn't dream of making biscuits, cookies, cake, frosting, etc... from a box. She just moved to New York and has a new room-mate. She decided to make a cake- rum scented dark chocolate mousse between 3 layers with a chocolate/cream cheese/buttercream frosting- and was looking and shopping to find a covered cake plate. She called me and said that MK wanted to know why she needed a cakeplate. Umm, 'cuz she was making a cake, duh. Stevie said, no way am I wrapping my perfect cake in plastic wrap or something. I love my kids.
I grew up with canned and generic foods. My mom worked and she always played with us but she could NOT cook or bake. My prejudice now I guess tends more toward the way my great grandma cooked and shopped and grew her own. Lucky me, I had her around until I was 36years old.
@HoneyBumper, yeah, does Shandra Lee make you crazy? Soo annoying. And the matchy matchy clothes and kitchen...Ick
@LizShelman, whole milk, absolutely. The rest is floury water.
