Weekend Cook and Tell: Anchovies

my boyfriend and i have just come back from a camping trip - where most of his food intake were anchovies straight out of the can. with nothing else!
He also says he craves it most of the time, like a NEED not a want.
haha! Does anyone else get that?

I eat ______ out of the tin/jar/bottle...

*(Brit style) Cold baked beans
*kimchi on its own while standing infront of the fridge with door open
*sweetcorn kernels with a squirt of mayo mixed in (staple diet of my student days)
*double cream. i love drinking fresh cream!
*the usual pickels, jam, peanut butter, nutella.

'What We Eat When We Eat Alone'

i love just cooking whatever is in my fridge to minimum edible level and eating them all together.
for example, for dinner tonight i had two fried eggs, steamed broccoli, raw sugar snap peas, sauted mushrooms in balsamic vinegar and some grilled halloumi.
all in one giant bowl cradled in my arm while shovelling it into my mouth watching House episodes. bliss!

Speakin' of kimchi: How do you store yours?

*hands up* we used to have two fridges too when i lived at home!
but now, living in london with just one tiny fridge, i keep kimchi in a flimsy tupperware...

my poor scottish fiance has to live with all his dairy products smelling like kimchi but he doesn't mind too much.
and all our friends know to expect the smell hitting you like a brick wall when opening the fridge! (i like my kimchi pretty matured.)

i guess keeping it in a screw top glass jar will be the most smell proofing method.

Does kimchi go bad?

in traditional ways, they used to make kimchi in giant earthernware vats to last through the winters, so there is no harm in eating MONTHS old kimchi! (as i used to at my gran's in korea)
although, as mentioned above, it may taste quite vinegary, but i personally love sour kimchi.

i buy bags of freshly made 'green' kimchi and leave it on the kitchen counter over night to ripen.
