Your best "save" when a meal went wrong.

Mine would be the time I was making a 4 course meal for a dinner party, the 3rd course of which was occo buco with risotto milanese...had everything down like clockwork, and I was about to start the risotto, with people arriving soon...and then all of a sudden my stove freaked out, putting up an error message and none of the burners would work. We tried to clear the display and reset it, and then it locked the oven shut(where my first course was). Freaking out ensued. Scotch was pounded.

I ended up making risotto in my rice cooker, holding the bowl down so the heating element would stay on while the lid was off and I stirred. The stove eventually chilled out and I was at least able to open the oven door and get my soup out. That's what I got for being smug and thinking I had everything under control.

Crispy, which is why I avoid ordering bacon at breakfast restaurants....even if I tell them to char the sh*t out of it, it invariably comes to the table mushy, limp and pale.

Butter vs. Margarine leads to serious fight

Butter wins hands down except for when you need something to spread on your toast, and haven't had the foresight to take the butter out of the fridge an hour beforehand. Land o' Lakes' spreadable butter with olive oil is awesome in this instance!

Secret food pet peeves that you keep pent-up

I, like buffy above, hate people who will not put any salt in their food, and have a really smug holier-than-thou attitude about it. Guess what? Your food tastes flat and horrible. Nobody here has blood pressure issues or anything so stop looking at me like I just killed your dog as I grind some salt onto my food.

Serious Beer: Summer Seasonals

@steamsoldier- It's not just you...used to like Sam's Summer, but this year it's no good for whatever reason.

I recently went to a craft beer fest here in CT and tried a couple great summer beers- Saranac Summer Brew, which is a shandy (beer + lemonade) but unlike Leinenkugel's Shandy referenced above (which I also tried there), it doesn't just taste like lemonade concentrate. It's more balanced. Another one, which I fully expected to hate, is Hooker's Watermelon Ale; as the label states, it is "strangely refreshing"!

Dear Restaurants: I am so sick of seeing ******* on your menus!

Sliders that are not sliders. Sliders are a small beef burger cooked over onions, nothing else! Not salmon, chicken, pork, tomato slices, portobello slices, etc etc etc. Why is it so trendy right now to call any and every small sandwich a slider!?

Plan B in West Hartford, CT. Love the 3 Shrooms burger: Sautéed Mushrooms, Portabella Spread, Truffle Mayo and Swiss Cheese.
They grind their beef in house and you can get your burger cooked 2 ways: pink or no pink. Juiciest burgers ever.
