Snapshots from Amsterdam: The Best Street Food

Oh how I love Febo!! The last time my husband and I were there we hatched up an elaborate plan to open some franchises here in the US. I don't even know if they are franchises, but it seemed like a really good idea at the time. I think they would be very successful in cities like San Francisco (where we live), Portland, Humboldt, San Diego, Austin. You get the idea. I love you Febo.

Arinell Pizza, San Francisco: Tasty No-Frills Slices

After many disappointing pizza deliveries in SF, we have decided that we will, from now on, just order a large Arinell pizza early in the evening and then reheat it on the pizza stone after our daughter goes to bed. Better than any of the mediocre delivery options in our 'hood. Pre-kid, we had Arinell many times at the end of a night of drinking. It makes me happy how good their pizza is sober, on the couch. Hooray Arinell!!!

How America Ate: Horn and Hardart's Automats

The automat lives on in Amsterdam. Febo!! Not high end, by any means, but delicious in the right circumstances. A fried croquette ("kroket") on a cold night after some time at the coffee bar. Mmmmm

Taste Test: Walkers Potato Chips New American Cheeseburger Flavor

How did you get your hands on these?? Were you sent a "press pack?" I want to try some and can't seem to find a source in the US.

Fewer Waiters Going Penless These Days

I write my orders down so that I can think about the hundred other things that I need to do (pre-set, crumb, pair wine, talk about cheese or wine, re-set, fill coffee, make a silly coffee drink, blah, blah, blah) to properly do my job. I love it when a waiter takes my order by memory and f*&^s it up. Ha Ha I say.

Street Food Profiles: Roli Roti in Northern California

The porchetta sandwich is one of the best sandwiches I've ever tasted. Really. And Mr. Odermatt is totally charming. So glad to see him get mentioned. I can't wait until Sat. morning to get my fix.

Serious Salsa: Habanero Hot Sauce

I make a sauce similar to this without the tomatoes in the summer. I make enough to last all year. I just keep it in the fridge. I'm just finishing up the stuff from last year.

The Organic Milk Business Has Gone Bad: Are You Buying Less Organic Milk?

Neither my husband nor I are milk drinkers, just a little in coffee or tea in the morning. My one year old daughter, on the other hand, puts away a fair amount of the stuff. Because of that we always buy organic. It doesn't seem like a sacrifice to spend the extra money on her. If it was just for us, we might opt to save a few bucks.

Going to Portland OR tomorrow!

I am not the original poster, but I am going to Portland this weekend from San Francisco. We have reservations at Le Pigeon on Sunday night and we are having a late lunch at Clyde Common on Friday afternoon. Looking forward to both of them. If someone chimes in with where Oregon truffles can be had, we will definitely try some of those.
