Healthy & Delicious: Roasted Butternut Squash Soup

This sounds so good and I love squash soup. I recently made a coconut squash soup....in case you are interested, I roasted the squash and scooped out the flesh, sauted and onion, added some curry powder and cooked a bit. Add one can coconut milk and veggie stock. Add the squash and heat through. Smooth soup with immersion blender. T0-die-for!!

But back to this...squash and soup...what could be better?? Thanks for this recipe!

The Secret Ingredient: Pomegranate Molasses

I have used the pom syrup/molasses for several years since being turned on to it by my sons former (Iranian) girlfriend's mother.
I have made the dish mentioned by yogurtsoda (3/28) but using chicken rather than duck...also the muhammara, which quickly became a party favorite among my friends. This stuff is wonderful and a secret no more!!
I am going to make these cookies this weekend! And the ribs will def. not be far behind. Thanks for this great post!

I don't go there, because I can't eat the food

OMG, I never laughed so much reading these threads!! I have been lucky to have had decent cooks in both my own and my In-laws families. I cant think of even one disasterous meal to share with you all. Thankfully.

@ocarol, I dont think anyone was intending to be mean spirited and at the time, were probably gracious...just sharing the stories with what was hidden beneath that graciousness. It is clear in a few stories...like the first one, that lady didnt like to or want to cook for a crowd...so why invite??

Thanks to all of you for some good laughs. Y'all are just too cool.

Sunday Brunch: Cap'n Crunch French Toast

I wonder how good it would be using Cap'n Crunch Peanut Butter cereal!! Hmmm, somebody had a good idea here! But maybe we should fry it in Benecol instead of buttah.

Eat for Eight Bucks: Perfect Roast Chicken with Pomegranate Jus

Just my 2 cents on the organic yada yada chicken thing...I have only ever had an organic, free range chicken once. It was expensive and beautiful...and very tough. I NEVER had a tough chicken in my life. The friend who cooked it knows her stuff, so I dont think it was her method.

I guess I will stay with the grocery store ones. I never had a bad one. It does suck that the life they lead is subpar, however.

In Videos: The Unofficial Trader Joe's Commercial

That was just the best commercial. I love Trader Joe's and have contacted them at least 5 times about putting one in a nearby college city, but they seem to have no interest. Too bad for all of us. They would be doing a bang-up business and I would be just too, too happy. I wonder why they dont think Vestal, NY is worthy?? We have everything else on the Parkway and a decent population. Methinks they should come take a look!

Cook the Book: Martha Stewart's Hors d'Oeuvres Handbook

The night of my wedding in 1999, we had a small champagne and hors d'Oeuvres reception (followed by a pig roast the next day). I made a variety of wonderful finger foods from a 1984 Martha Stewart hors d'Oeurves cookbook.

Everyone LOVED the food and could not believe I did "all that" for my own wedding. It was actually rather easy with those recipes.Sadly, I lost my hubby nearly a year ago. But he did love my cooking. Thanks to Martha, we had a good start.

Cook the Book: Chicken Liver Pate

I LOVE chicken liver pate but the recipe I have made before is very labor intensive, and also makes alot more than one cup. I will definitely try is as it sounds easy and delicious.

Blogwatch: Mulled Wine

A mulled wine called Glogg is traditional in Swedish households during the holidays. It is made with claret wine, aquavit and spices and has a few blanched almonds floating in the pot. It is awesome and I just cant wait for Christmas to imbibe!!

Glad Jul to all and to all...maybe a hangover!

This Thanksgiving I am going to try something new and it is.....

You guys crack me up!! Nothing like a lively conversation among friends and sluts and others.

That BBB sounds great. And are you aware of it's medicinal properties??
Good for diahhrea, constipation, belly aches, headaches and menstrual cramps...I swear! Found this out years ago when I worked in a restaurant. My boss asked me if I was "on the rag" (he had 6 daughters and KNEW when someone was "off") and sent me to the bar out back and told the 'tender to set me up with "the cure". Within 15 min. I felt so much better and got through my shift with no problems. Or falling down.

If you wanna share that recipe, I am sure there will be many takers!

Oh, and Martha Stewarts Parkerhouse rolls are a dream to make and very good. Made them several times. Family loved 'em.

I make an awesome Praline Sweetpotato casserole that cooks the sliced spuds in heavy cream before having a praline topping put on for the last half-hour. Soooo damn good. I cry when the last of it is eaten.

Happy T-day, all.

Mixed Review: Classic Crème Brûlée for 45¢, No Blowtorch Required

I have used this product several times and find it to be real good. The custard is creamy-smooth and the sugar is a joy to crack into, again, as long as you serve it freshly torched. (see wunami's post above, for why it must not be allowed to sit around)

I've made it from scratch as well, and although homemade is wonderful, this is great in a pinch for convenience and price...amanda has a point I totally agree with. T'aint cheap to make from scratch.

Since first buying this product on a trip to Montreal years ago, I have found it at almost every grocery store I have been in here in upstate NY.

Can anyone help me find them. I am just drooling over these!!

Neiman Marcus Chocolate Chip Cookies

The first time I ever heard of this NM cookie debacle, I was merely 18 years old...that was in 1970!! I received a chain letter in the snail mail. Not only was it being sent to me to "offset" the $250.00 the originator had supposedly shelled out, she was chainlettering it to really get her revenge!!

Image my surprise when I got an email with the same story...30 odd years later! I never did make them, but the original mail had the same recipe as the original post here..with chips, nuts and chocolate chunks, not the one from the site...although they both sound awesome. Maybe it is time I actually made them!!
