Time to start shopping for a new oven...any suggestions?

We purchased a new oven last year, and after much research settled on a Kitchen Aid Architect gas and convection oven. So far we have been very pleased with it. We were not sure how often we would be using the convection feature, but we use it all the time. The 100 degree bread proof setting is also very handy. The other thing that it has that we weren't sure we would use that often was the thermometer probe. You enter a temperature and the oven alerts you when the desired temperature is reached. While we have only used it a handful of times it is actually pretty nice to have.

Great Trader Joe's Story

We have always found the employees at our local TJ's very friendly and helpful, however along the same lines of your post I recently read about a Whole Foods giving away $4,000 in groceries due to a computer crash. Here's the link:

Cook the Book: 'The Martha Stewart Living Cookbook: The Original Classics'

Yes, I have cooked a Martha recipe before. I made lamb and cous cous, and some other things - generally I like her recipes.

Are you a sucker for "limited-edition" products?

I used to be a sucker for the Hersey special edition Reese's Cups. I do have a soft spot for peanut butter cups, and when they first started coming out with those special editions I generally would try them - but now the limited edition candy at the grocery check out seems over used and the limited edition flavors aren't that great.

Sullivan St. no knead bread

I have also made it a bunch of times, but I always split it into two loaf pans instead of cooking it in the dutch oven. Every time I have made it for guests they are always astounded at the simplicity of it. Although maybe next time I'll give the dutch oven a try.

What is your favorite cheese to cook with?

I like to cook with Gruyere (or provolone) for a melty cheese finish to many a dish. I sometimes like Parmigainao Reggiano (shaved not shredded or grated) on salads and other stuff to add a sharp taste. But mostly I prefer the creaminess of Gruyere or provolone.

Emeril: Thumbs Up or Thumbs Down?

To me, alot of these comments seem like an obituary for Emeril. Personally, I think the Emeril Live show is past it's prime and I am not sad to see it go. However I do agree with Ed Levine that he did do a lot to bring cooking and "good food" into a lot of American homes and make the food network what it is today. I initially began cooking because of Emeril Lagasse's enthusiasm. I have been to his NOLA restaurant and really enjoyed it. I do not think he is dead, he will continue to thrive as a restaurateur as long as he keeps the quality up and returns to his roots.

World's Easiest Yeast Bread

I like the no-knead bread posted last year by Bittman. I have a batch resting as I type for tomorrow. It is the BEST bread I've ever made at home and the easiest!

What Should Replace Roast Turkey as the National Thanksgiving Dish?

I agree that pan-fried chicken does taste better than roast turkey, and I generally agree with the menu, but veggies are missing. A favorite at our house is Alton Brown's green beans with pecans, red wine vinegar and butter.

KitchenAid Artisan Mixer vs. KitchenAid Pro Mix

We have the artisan for about 3 years now and it has never failed us. We use it for everything from cookies to pizza dough. We have started making a lot more bread since we purchased it because it is much easier than kneading the dough by hand. I have never had a situation where the artisan seemed to small or weak to handle the job.

Online Cooking School

I am thinking miss. If they offered the service for free, paid via advertisements it might be worth while, but not for $49. I am not sure how useful it would be to take cooking classes over the web. I think of cooking as a multi-sensory experience, and only being able to see and hear some one instructing you on cooking would not be enough.

Sullivan St. no knead bread

Oh, yeah--I don't bother with a cast iron skillet. I simply put it on a cookie sheet sprinkled with corn meal. This is how Chef John (foodwishes.com) does it and it works great.

Sullivan St. no knead bread

This bread is so easy and good. It is now a staple in my house. I always have some dough ready to go. I've let it sit for as much as 36 hours at room temp without any problem.
I've tried some variations--part whole wheat, beer for some of the liquid--and it's all good.
I've been working to perfect artisan bread for years and I can't believe that it's this easy.
I love it!!!!!
