the breakfast i eat M-F is so delicious that i would definitely want it as my last--

everything bagel (the kind with ALOT of everything) toasted with scallion cream cheese and 2 big, juicy slices of tomato. top that with an egg, over hard.

i used to live by that bergen street f stop too. i must have gained a whole dress size when the banh mi place opened up next to the entrance and i had to pass it twice a day. what about a spleen sandwich at ferdinando's?

A Carroll Gardens meal: in order: perfect "Brooklyn" cocktail from Brooklyn Social; lard bread from Caputo's; any veggie antipasti and the sausages and peppers from Frankie's Court Street Spuntino; cream and chocolate ices and ossi di morti cookies from the Court Street Pastry Shop; gingersnaps from Sweet Melissa.

That was my situation a little over two years ago (and I, too, lived right near the Bergen F stop!).

Banh mi @ Nicky's on Atlantic
Actually, get Banh Mi down in Bay Ridge area
Anything at Sahadi's & Damascus bakery
Red Hook ballfields
Steve's Key Lime Pies

I was going to add some Jackson Heights stops but that's more than 5 miles from Carroll Gardens. But if you're willing to break your rule, go to the arepa lady late at night!

I'm so pleased to see Via Ponte up here... I live behind Via Ponte (that gravel walkway looking thing that the restaurant is on is actually a road!) and love to see Kate and Guiseppe on my afternoon walks. My boyfriend and I are just addicted to their pizza, my favorite's the goat cheese/broccoli rabe one. Let me know if you plan on returning and we'll bring over a bottle!

Thanks, Paulie Gee. Your photos, as well as your pizza set on flickr, are fabulous.

Since writing the review, I've returned twice to Via Ponte and am glad to report consistency in the quality of the pizza. On my most recent visit, I noticed that Giuseppe and Katherine had hired a young pizzaola, who was splitting pizza-making duties with Katherine and delivered to my table a tasty marinara pie, with a sweet, leggy sauce, fresh herbs and a sprinkling of fresh ground parmesan. The pie could have used a minute more in the oven, however, as it was just a bit less crispy than I like and lacked any meaningful char. A member of our party commented, as we were leaving, that "this place is a keeper."

Mark,

Based on your very well written review, I took a ride to Stockton today to check Via Ponte out and was very glad I did. Giuseppe and Katherine were very gracious hosts and I enjoyed an excellent meal. Since my writing skills pale in comparison to yours, I will let my camera do the talking:

I look forward to returning some evening to sample some of Giusseppe's Sicilian specialties.

Ciao,

Paulie Gee

If it's my last breakfast ever? Bacon, egg, and cheese on a roll; poffertjes with strawberries; pain au chocolat; a macchiato; and hash browns or latkes.

Either a cheese stuffed omelet with avacado and salsa, or my late husbands sausage gravy and biscuits.

French toast with a scoop of real butter on top and dusted with powdered sugar, served with strawberries and sliced fresh peaches. Two strips of thick-cut hickory bacon. One creamy scrambled egg. A big glass of OJ with lots of fresh pulp. I'm happy - and full - just thinking about it.

Fresh cornbread with homemade butter, Pennsylvania maple syrup and crispy peppered bacon.

Or a few pieces of toasted French bread slathered with Brie and fig jam.
