Costa Rica eats!

I lived in the central valley for a while with a dairy farmer. Best days of my life. Oh the food I used to eat.... fresh homemade tortillas with gallo pinto, lizano, and the regional speciality white cheese. Zarcero is especially known for its fresh dairy products so if you're in the area (it's near Naranjo and San Ramon) please check it out. Oh and oxtail soup is another Costa Rican specialty which is fantastic.

I keep kosher-ish, so I would never actually go out and buy lard/bacon to make these. but if I go to a restaurant and have beans I just close my eyes and pretend that the lard doesn't exist... if you can't see it, it doesn't count, right?

6 months of terrible cooking--- please help!

@ islandexile-- I've been in SP the whole time, with some wonderful trips to the coast and to Rio state. Don't get me wrong-- I love Brazil, it's a beautiful country, but my family here is from Minas Gerais, so it's super heavy food. Mostly I just miss the ability to cook for myself! I will miss requeijão and maracuja a lot though...
