Naples 45: Skip the Neapolitan Pizza Here and Get Their New York–Style Slice Instead

My first thought on the photography issue was the heightened security in and around the GCT complex generally, of which the Naples 45 building is a part.

@mongoose That $16 tart is savory. If they had ordered dessert, they'd have had forks, and could have discreetly dug into the cake they brought in. (sorta like smuggling American Cheese into the Spotted Pig. ) And I imagine if they'd ordered even one dessert or even coffee, it would have gone a long way to ameliorating the situation.

I'm a big fan of her books, but I'm with the Breslin on this. The restaurant missed out on revenue because they did not order dessert or coffee yet continued to occupy a table in the middle of a busy lunch to eat food they brought with them. She does not deserve special treatment because she's a baking "celebrity." That she is a baking "celebrity" or in the "food community" as she puts it, she should know how this works - calling first, plate charges, etc. And then to vindictively vent on her blog without first (it seems) privately seeking resolution of the matter, shows a lack of professionalism.

Lunch for One: Prime Rib Hash at Keens

This sounds ridiculously good. I've been craving Prime Rib, so was scouring menupages yesterday for places that serve it - this might even be better. Thanks for this tip!

Help! Where's the best hot apple fritter in NYC?

They're not hot, but Dean & Deluca carries apple fritters from a baker in Queens that are very good. For hot apple fritters, Spigolo on the UES has them on their dessert menu. These are not doughnut shop-style apple fritters, but apple slices battered and fried.

Serious Eats Finds New York's Best Cheesecake

Yum! As I was scrolling down, I was thinking, where's the Hens? Glad to see my favorite won. They currently have pumpkin cheesecake as well, which takes their cheesecake deliciousness to another level.

@gargupie The Hens cheesecake does not normally look as dark as in the picture above, it usually has a pale yellow top with just a touch of brown at the edges.

Sugar Rush: Zingerman's Zzang Bars at Murray's Cheese

The Cashew Cow and Original are great (and the Original is even better refrigerated.) I first ordered them directly from Zingerman's (thanks SE for the 10% holiday discount!) and was psyched to then find them at Murray's. I recently finished my "stock" and was disappointed to discover that Zingerman's had raised the price on them to $7/ea. and Murray's website has them at $5.99. If they are still $4.99 in the store, I am off to stock up. :)

Sugar Rush: Rainbow Cookies from The Bakery on Long Island

Petak's used to carry the most delicious rainbow cookies - perfectly moist cake layers with a strip of marzipan on each end. I was sad when they closed that I did not know where were from. I was thrilled to come across these same cookies a few weeks later @ Crumbs. Definitely the best I've had in this genre.

What's Your Favorite Non-Chocolate Cupcake?

I heartily second the Sage vanilla/vanilla recommendation. And I just had cupcakes from Make My Cake in Harlem - the vanilla was equally moist and perhaps even more flavorful, less over the top sweet, than Sage's. The carrot and coconut cupcakes from Make My Cake were excellent as well. (their cupcakes are on the larger side.)
