Mangosteens in Queens?

i've seen mangosteen quite often in chinatown along canal st but the ones here in the U.S. are never fresh because they're frozen before they can be imported here.

Need a fun/great NYC restaurant suggestion

Gyukaku is fun because you get to cook your own food and make desserts as well. The red bean with ice cream mashed between warm cakes is delicious!

Ohh and congratulations on your 20th anniversary =D

Dim Sum Favorites at Jing Fong in Chinatown

Ha, you pretty much like the same exact things I do. I think that the upside down sticky rice is my favorite. Im sure there is better dim sum out there, but for sheer shock value, I bring all my out of town friends here. Between the microphone and walkie-talkie chaos while you wait to have your number called, to the massive palatial dining hall, it's hard not to impress those who have yet to be indoctrinated into the world of dim sum.

The Best Gelato in New York Is Being Served in a Tanning Salon

There is a fabulous confection boutique on Park Ave btwn 58th and 59th that serves up the best gelato I've ever had. The brand is called Taste Gelato Artigianale, made fresh daily with all natural ingredients. There is a debut for the gelato on June 4th and 5th. I highly recommend it!!!!

Mangosteens in Queens?

the ones in chinatown that were frozen tasted horrible when thawed. it was bitter and had a really funky taste. i ended up throwing them all away. i just have to trek to vancouver BC's chinatown to get real fresh mangosteen.

Mangosteens in Queens?

They don't seem to be in season now. Anyway, the mangosteens I've seen in the Flushing Chinatown area all seem to be really small, almost black and way too expensive. They don't have the deep purplish ones that are common in Southeast Asia. It may be due to the freezing process.

Sticky Rice Stuffed Chicken Wings at Rainbow Cafe in Chinatown

I love Rainbow Cafe. Mommy had taken me here a few times. The chicken wings stuffed with sticky rice is out of this world. Beef stew with noodles is awesome too. You must try another dish that includes rice noodles with this sweet brown sauce and peanut sauce. There is a picture of this dish to the right wall of the counter. Here is a site listing all the dishes Rainbow Cafe has to offer: http://www.grubia.com/places/4036.

Looking forward to head back there on Monday and order the following dishes:
Beef tripe with noodle
Rice noodles with brown sauce and peanut sauce
Boneless chicken wing stuffed with sticky rice
Chicken and chinese mushroom with black bean sauce on rice

Try the sticky rice stuffed crispy chicken (whole chicken) at Amazing 66. Now that's GOOD!

I've had this once before in LA, I think it was called Angel Wings. With thin rice noodles instead of sticky rice. Delish.

Dim Sum Favorites at Jing Fong in Chinatown

@DietCokeGal: I couldn't name specific bakeries, but I think they're a fairly common thing to find...if you roamed around in Chinatown and visited a few bakeries I'm sure you could find it? Mott Street has lots of bakeries.

Does anyone know of any Chinatown bakeries that sell those beautiful dangerous Sesame Balls? I've been craving them for a while now...
