what's your new thing?

grain salads. I made some tabbouleh yesterday and have eaten it all, already. Back to the produce market!

Waldorf Redux Salad

Thank for this small quantity recipe. Those of us who cook for ourselves would appreciate more recipes for 1 or 2

Grilling: Pineapple Salsa

I'm with the spelling folks. Errors like they're/their, etc. indicate someone who says: "But I used spell check!", and we all know that relying on spell check is like the assume mistake. It just doesn't reflect well on you, SE.

You can do better.

Eat for Eight Bucks: Sausages on Buttered Beans with Fresh Herbs

Thank you for this, both for it's simplicity and for the fact that it makes just two servings!

Weekend Cooking Accomplishments?

I succeeded in making reasonably small portions of Chana Dahl, and a stir fry. My challange lately is to try not to make huge amounts of food that end up either frozen and forgotten or as leftovers. I've got food for two or three mmore meals, which by the time they're done, means I'll feel like cooking something good.

Healthy no-knead pizza dough - fooled my kids!

can I mix this up in the food processor? (I'm just learning what I can do with my new FP!)

Cook the Book: Lentils with Pancetta

Yay! Another good lentil recipe. This looks wonderful, with simple accessible ingredients. This'll be the next thing I make after the Chana dal that's in the fridge!

Cooking for One?

Thanks for all the feedback folks...though I want Serious Eats to do a column devoted to cooking for one. I can cook, I regularly scale recipes down, I often make batches of things. i have a nice collection of small quantity cookbooks, I'm quite fond of Chuck Williams' Cooking for Yourself.

My original suggestion was, and is, that Serious Eats should have a column devoted to Cooking for One. Singe households abound and I think that many of us would enjoy a column like this.

Your "Poor Era" Eats

I'm back to the starving student days, having been unemployed since last June, and living on what I can make walking dogs. I live in San Francisco, and so have access to wonderful fresh fruits and veggies and so have been living on salads lately.

I often roast a pan of veggies and keep that on hand to add to stock for soup or to salads. I eat lots of chicken soup since I've always got bones.

Life as a starving student can pay off 30 years later.

Can I make this in my food processor? Would I change anything in the method if I did?

Small food processor recomendations?

Thank you all! I found a Cuisinart DFP3 (now discontinued apparently), on sale at Sears. Given that I am long term unemployed, I was happy to spend only $40. This'll be a good first step for me!

Grilling: Wilted Spinach and Portobello Salad

I'd love to do this on a grill pan indoors. About how hot should it be?

Eat for Eight Bucks: Pasta with Brown Butter and Sage

Seriously folks! This is *one* recipe, on one website. Why the vitriol?

Most of you are probably adults with pretty sophisticated pallets, and are capable of putting together a meal. If this one doesn't suit you, because your health concerns, the cost, or your own preferences....move on! No need to be so hard on the original poster over one recipe.

Seriously Asian: Burmese Chicken-Coconut Soup

Thank you, thank you, thank you! for this recipe! it's my very favorite thing at the little Burmese restaurant down the street and I've never succeeded in replicating it. Now....if winter would please come to San Francisco so that I can make soup!
