For a great baking book, may I suggest Baked? It's awesome.
Food in Ireland
Get passes on the tour buses. It's the easiest and cheapest way to get around town. There's no subway system, so in order to see all the sights, the bus is really the best option. The tickets allow you to hop on and off as much as you want.
Ok, now for places to eat. There is a gastropub across the street from Christ's Church that I can not for the life of me remember the name of. But it is wonderful. My friends and I spent hours in this pub. We were literally there so long that we ordered lunch and dinner. And dessert. Which was Banoffi pie, which you should have.
Is a Small Kitchen an Excuse for Bad Cooking or Not Cooking at All?
I think having a nice, well-stocked kitchen makes cooking more pleasurable. I know that I used to cook a lot more when I had more counter space. Now I'm in a cramped apartment that barely has enough room to set a cutting board down (literally), so I don't get as excited about cooking. The small space doesn't prevent me from cooking, but it certainly makes it a lot harder. That said, sometimes the challenge is fun. Like when I cooked an entire Thanksgiving dinner in a stove just big enough to fit the bird... But I still think that having a nice big kitchen makes for an overall better daily cooking experience.

Filet mignon, hands down.
Pumpkin recipes?
@Chew on That: I'm a big fan of the food blogs and I've seen lots of recipes, but mostly for bread or muffins. I guess what I meant is that you pumpkin often gets pigeon-holed in the baked goods category and isn't being used for its true gloriousness! But I know that our SE eaters are just so creative there are bound to be plenty of other options!
@bitchincamero: Love lasagna idea!! Love love love. Will try :)
Geek Cakes
Any idea who made the Harry Potter cake? I want.
Leftover Rotisserie Chicken Ideas...
I always use rotisserie chicken to make chicken salad. Mix with chopped grapes, celery, walnuts, a little mayo (I usuallly use the lite kind) and salt and pepper. Have delicious sandwiches all week long!
The Hamburger Fatty Melt, a Burger with Two Grilled Cheese Sandwiches as Its Bun
Oh. My. God. This actually sounds delicious.
Are we sure Paula Deen didn't invent this recipie though? It reminds me of her burger with donuts as the bun. That's right, if you haven't seen that episode you've missed out on pure Americana: Paula and her friend smashin an all beef pattie between two donuts fresh from the fryer.
But this is a way better idea. Seriously.
Freaky Frozen Food Habits?
I'm a big fan of frozen fruit straight from the freezer. For fun frozen treats, try dropping blueberries or raspberries in your ice cube trays, fill with water and freeze. The ice cubes look really pretty in the glass and you get a nice yummy treat too.
Economy Bad, People Eat More at Home, Food Magazines Prosper
336 food magazines?!? Can we get a list? And maybe a run-down of which are the best for what? Blog idea alert!!
Cheap Eats in London
Eating cheap in London is really a challenge. I studied abroad there in college, lived in South Kensington and absolutely lived off of Cafe Forum on Gloucester Rd. It's not a sit down restaurant really, just a cafe, but they have so many choices and everything is really delicious and ridiculously cheap. If I remember correctly, you could get a whole pizza for like 5 pounds (good crisp pizza too with fresh veggies, not greasy at all). They also always had chicken and rice, kebabs, huge sandwiches and an array of homemade veggie and pasta salads. I too survived by cooking, but when I didn't feel like taking the time a quick trip to Cafe Forum was always delicious.
Upper East Side Lunch
Depends what kind of food you're in the mood for. Amber (80th and 3rd) is great for Asian fusion while Gobo have yummy vegetarian meals. Atlantic Grill (3rd and 77th) is always really delicious, but a little more pricey. I'm sure you could eat for under $35 though. That's just off the top of my head...was there a specific type of food you were craving?

Lettuce? Whaddya, crazy? Why? It adds nothing. Maybe some arugula (strong flavor) under the burger if you need a built-in salad, but plain old lettuce would just disappear.
But tomato in the grilled cheeses sounds good. Gotta have tomato on a cheeseburger.
I'm thinking maybe blue and swiss/Gruyère/Comté for the cheeses (one each), if not all extra-sharp cheddar. If using jalapeño cheddar (or better yet, habanero cheddar), only in one sammy, plain cheddar on the other. Otherwise the chiles will overwhelm everything else.
Bacon only if using cheddar. And not too much. Still have to taste the burger. Balance is important.

Love the idea -
Much to the shargin of my wife I am going to try this idea out tonight. The biggest challenge to me is to ensure proper timing so that everything is at the proper heat to ensure that the butter, cheese and beef blend together properly and not congeal.
Cheers!

Gotta love it! I will try it soon using the thin bread squashed down. Here's one that everyone already knows, but as long as we are trying for the ultimate heart attack:

Dave and his pizza are back, as evidenced by the shots below that I took during my inaugaral Brooklyn Flea visit. Best pie I've ever had off of a flatbed trailer:

List of books
I was doing some browsing last night and stumbled upon "How Baking Works" by Paula Figoni. It looks like a great book about both the art and science of baking. Comments about it say it's used as a text for some college baking courses. I'm going to check it out at the library if available. It's listed on Amazon, looks like a pretty comprehensive book on the topic.
Freaky Frozen Food Habits?
@ nightowl - they actually sell that at some places here in Sao Paulo - Bananas covered in chocolate then frozen. Awesome!
Freaky Frozen Food Habits?
@lambowner --- Frozen Dr. pepper! Like a Slurpee!
Yes, frozen cheesecake tastes absolutely divine!
Freaky Frozen Food Habits?
Fruits are very tasty when frozen. Like Nature's Italian ice! Refreshingly sweet and frosty. I loved to snack on frozen strawberries when I was a little girl and a teen. Still do.
Other items that are yummy frozen are many candies, such as York Peppermint Patties. Mmmmmm. And yes, Thin Mint cookies

Food in Ireland
Ok, I'm back. And Phil was most helpful. Here is his long reply.
Well, I'm not really an authority on Dublin but I do know Galway fairly well. It depends on what he likes, but here's a few ideas for the broke college student:
- Dublin - Go to Abrakebabra. It is fast food, but it's some of the best fast food you'll ever eat. Kebabs in Ireland are more like gyros than shish kabobs, don't ask me why we spell it differently. Anyway, it's cheap, decent and it'll be a life saver at 2am when he is wandering the streets drunk and dying for food, it'll definitely happen on a rugby trip. They are everywhere in the city. Also, there convenience stores like Mace and Centra are everywhere and offer food as well, nothing spectacular but I always liked their chicken and stuffing sandwiches. They do decent breakfast rolls too, everything revolves around breakfast in Ireland, it's the only meal we do right, so don't miss the sausages, best in the world in my opinion, along with some black pudding (blood sausage but don't be put off by that)
- Galway - Supermac's, another fast food institution is cheap and has a great garlic fry with cheese (fries smothered in garlic mayo with melted cheddar cheese over top)
- Galway - Don't miss McDonagh's. The best fish and chips in Ireland (again, in my opinion, but it's famous for it). It's on a cobble stone street in the centre of the city called Quay Street (pronounced Key). Everyone can direct you there. There's actually a couple of good places on that street for fish and chips and the King's Head pub across the street is also a great place for a pint and some decent pub grub.
Other places to check out:
- Dublin - The Bank is a great place too. It is an old bank converted to a bar, but they kept the interior intact so it's all marble and decorated gold leaf interior. The restrooms are next to the vaults that kept the little money that was in Ireland safe...It looks very upscale but it attracts a mixed crowd of young and old and the food is decent and not overly expensive. Worth a trip for sure. www.bankoncollegegreen.com If you want to save money, go for lunch instead of dinner.
- Dublin has changed dramatically in the last decade, so you'll find much more ethnic foods of late which is a relatively new phenomenon as the Irish palate tends to be quite boring. There is a strong asian influence in parts now, so Chinese can be decent, but don't be surprised if you are offered fries (or chips as we call them) with your meal. We love our potatoes...
- Another pub to check out in Temple Bar (a great area for a night out) is The Porter House. http://www.porterhousebrewco.com/templebar.html Usually has good music and good drink, but I've never eaten there, so not sure about the food.
Hope this helps. If you have specific requests, or know the area you are staying, let me know, I may be able to be more specific. Also, if you are into rugby, why are you not going to Munster? Do yourself a favor and go to Limerick, mecca for rugby and home of the best team in the world, as you probably know ;-)

Is a Small Kitchen an Excuse for Bad Cooking or Not Cooking at All?
I rarely cooked when I lived in a studio apartment with a small kitchen where there was no counter. The fridge, stove, and sink took up all the space. Okay, maybe there was a 1/4" of counter space between the stove and the sink. It wasn't the cooking itself that are a nuisance, it was the prep work and cleanup.
In my new apartment, where I have an actual counter, I cook all the time.
Is a Small Kitchen an Excuse for Bad Cooking or Not Cooking at All?
pretty strong consensus here and I totally agree. I had four tiny burners in a tight hallway in my first apartment, and I have four slightly larger burners and a small counter in my current place. Hosting dinner parties is definitely possible and there are no limitations if you plan creatively.

I learned to cook in a 1970 Silver Streak trailer that was 8' wide and had two propane burners. No, a kitchen is not an excuse.
