What Will Brian Boitano Make?
I just recently saw this in the FN lineup and couldn't believe it! I didn't even know that Brian Boitano could cook! Great skater yes, but I was unaware of his culinary skills! I guess if he's on, he obviously can cook so I will be watching!
Favorite vendors at the Italian Feasts?
At the Italian feasts, I've never had a bad sausage and pepper hero! The smell alone is amazing!

Breakfast, the most important meal of the day? Really?
Sorry, it may be wrong but I just am not hungry in the morning. If i'm not hungry, i'm not going to eat. It's that simple. I'm not overweight and do not gorge myself from hunger when I do get hungry around 12:30, 1pm. Also, every so often when I do want something early, I eat. So far I'm fine! (Knock on wood).

Sneaking food into movies
I've made sandwiches, and my friends and I've hidden a bucket of KFC in my large oversized leather shoulder bag. It was hilarious trying to muffle the delicious aroma of the chicken! We got in only because the movie staff never cared, and told us that they totally understood people trying to smuggle their own snacks in! That particular night, the ticket guy looked at us and smiled as he mouthed the word yum! Of course it helped that they were our age! They probably do the same thing.
Anthony Bourdain drunk on latest episode!?!?
He's toasted all of the time! I love him though!
What do you go "out" for?
I go out for mussels in white wine sauce! There used to be a great restaurant on 95th and Columbus Ave. in N.Y. called "Under The Stairs", that made the absolute best! When finished, the diners would drink the leftover juice in the bowl, or took it home because it was so delicious!
What would be your last meal?
Not worrying about my figure, a fried anything fest! Some or a taste of all of the following: A piece of fish, chicken, some shrimp, that pizza on the face page, all of the dipping sauces and tartar sauce to go along with them. Jerk chicken/hot wings smothered in bleu cheese dressing. I'm thinking of other foods as I go along! This was fun to think about. I would cap it all off with a nice dry white wine, and I would die very, very happy!
Sicilian-Style Square Pizza Pie
Oh, my goodness! That pie is a thing of beauty! I'm salivating at the mouth!
Next Food Network Star Final 2
B-o-r-i-n-g! Although I don't really care whether the contestants are boring, as much as their cooking. I'm just not impressed by the cooking/ dishes made so far! I guess if I had to choose one it would be Mellisa, although I don't think that her personality would warrent renewing her show. Even though there was some flack from people over Aaron's winning last year, with some crying that FN wanted to fill their "Quota" of diverse and ethnic people and food, he was the right one. He was not boring, his food looked delicious and I've actually made some of his dishes that turned out very tasty and delicious! He's interesting, which is actually more than I can say for Sandra Lee, the Barefoot Contessa, and a few others whose culinary skills I just don't see the big deal with. Sadly, whichever of the two are chose, I don't see either being renewed. I hope they prove me wrong!
The most awesome deep dish in Chicago?
Lou Malnati's! And I'm from New York! I loved it enough to have it shipped to New York!
Pizza toppings
What the PirateKing said, word for word! There's nothing like the delicious taste of the meat such as sausage or pepperoni baked into the top of the cheese. The combined taste of both meat and cheese with the oil from the meat that seeps into the cheese, giving it a crunch and only improves the taste!
Grilling: Asparagus Wrapped in Prosciutto With Lemon
I usually grill my asparagus; but with the proscuitto it never looked so tasty! And with WSLunch's idea of a few bleu cheese crumbles, ooh,my mouth is watering!
Paula Deen Is Trying to Kill Us 2: Bacon-Wrapped Fried Mac
I agree with some, I have to say although it is a heart-attack and stroke waiting to happen; It looks good to me! I wouldn't dare eat it often, but every so often it wouldn't kill anyone. Southerners have survived for years and to old age having eaten fat-filled fried foods; just as health-conscious people have dropped dead at a young age! You never know. I say we must enjoy life also. Try it every so often if wanted, and if not, there's no reason to trash the likes of Paula, the Neeleys, Big Daddy and others as I've heard many times. Stay away from Southern cooking if you don't like it.
What's your favorite kitchen gadget?
I have a purple one and a half foot tall lemon squeezer! My sister bought it for me, and I love it. You set the lemon on the "mound" on top of the metal jar that comes with the squeezer, you push the long, metal arm- handle down, reminicent of the old-fashioned ones used when pumping water from a well at the turn of the century. It's a great conversation piece, and fun to do and watch; not to mention squeezing every last bit of juice from the lemon!
Help! My Future Housemate is a Vegetarian
The vegans in my life are a pain in the patooty! Although I rarely eat meat, when I do I always have to tell them to get off of my case! I'm healthy, look good and am the right weight unlike most of them that are underweight, sickly-looking, and with a yellowish tone to their complexions. I luv them though! and make a mean dish of portabello mushroom and and sliced tofu. With carmelized onions and other veggies in garlic sauce, the tofu slices taste like meat!
Your Oldest Cookbook?
Just like Jerzee, my oldest is the Amy Vanderbilt cookbook. It was my mom Grace's, and when she passed away, my dad Sidney began to enjoy cooking and often used it. After he passed, I began to use it, and boy, is it the best! The Quiche Lorraine is to die for, and most of all, it's very sentimental to me because scattered throughout the book are notes from my parents; which makes me cherish it even more.
Dinner Tonight: Shrimp and Grits with Bacon
This looks so tasty! I will be eating it soon, instead of just salivating while looking at the picture! Yummy!
What to eat the night before Thanksgiving?
Practically Nothing! I eat light the night before (I try!) because I'm such a pig; and I also want to be nice and hungry on Thanksgiving day! It is so hard because I usually have dessert duty in the family, and pick all night as I bake. I'll usually bake a piece of fish or chicken, and have a salad; and I realize that it's easier for me to do this because i'm single.
Who's Hotter? Young Colicchio vs. Young Bourdain
They're both sexy as hell; although I really mean as they are today; and that's a testament to age!. Back then Bourdain looks like the typical bad-boy, while I prefer Collicio today. Bald head and all!
Election Night Party
Pot luck seems appropriate; but if my candidate loses, I'll need comfort food. I'll probably have a bowl of New England clam chowder!
"If allowed only ONE topping on a cheese pizza, it'd be _____."
There's something about pepperoni that when when baked into the pie and cheese, it brings out the flavor and enhances it more!
Are you a pizza person or a burger person?
Every so often i enjoy a burger with the trimmings; but I'd rather pizza! and I've been making my own lately. On focaccia bread cut in half, sauteed onions, mushroom and green, red, yellow peppers and other toppings if wanted, a mixture of provolone, monterey jack and mozzarella cheeses and oregano, If I do say so myself, I make a m-e-a-n pizza!
Grilling: Jerk Chicken for Columbus Day
I'll be honest, I love jerk chicken wings, and the hotter the better! But i'm way too lazy to make the mix from scratch, I take the easy way out. I buy a jar of "Walkerswood" jerk sauce of which I feel is the best. It's way better then "Grace" sauce. I slath it all over my wings, put them right in the oven and they're the best! Get a jar of Marie's chunky bleu cheese dressing and I'm in heaven! Maybe one day I'll attempt a scratch sauce, but it's not happening any time soon! "Walkerswood" is wonderful, and if I don't feel that I can do it justice, why try?!
Paula Deen Is Trying to Kill Us 2: Bacon-Wrapped Fried Mac
I wish people would lighten up on Paula. She's more an entertainer than anything else, and a darn good one for people who enjoy and appreciate Southern culture and cooking. As I once heard her comment, followed by that charming cackle of hers, "Honey, I'm your cook, not your doctor."
For those who want a healthful emphasis, there's certainly no shortage of personalities, ideas and resources out there (so let's enjoy Paula for what she is). Personal favorite on the healthy side:
Breakfast, the most important meal of the day? Really?
I eat whole grain oatmeal every weekday before heading to the gym. Without it I find my exercise more difficult. When I leave the gym my stomach always wants food again - I usually eat one or two hard boiled eggs and a piece of fruit (usually a banana), which fills me up good. If I don't eat anything I don't wake up and I can't concentrate until after lunch.
I do have sausage, egg and cheese on a toasted bagel every once in a while after the gym. Tasty! And eggs sunny-side up with toast on the weekends is a must.
Sneaking food into movies
I always pack a banana-pb sandwich for those late-night movies
Breakfast, the most important meal of the day? Really?
Protein is important at breakfast. Your brain need protein to function properly. School children need a healthy breakfast to help them through the day, brain food is protein. So foods rich in eggs are always a good choice for breakfast, cheese, milk, lean meats, whole grain breads and cereals and a little fat won't hurt to stick to your ribs.
The reason you are hungry all day after a carbo laden starter meal is that your body processes them quicker and leave you hungry again. Not so with protein. Same at night with a snack before bed - eat cheese and crackers or some protein like yogurt or egg and you won't wake up famished either.
Breakfast, the most important meal of the day? Really?
I love breakfast and it's probably my biggest meal of the day. I don't eat meat, so I make sure to get lots of protein at breakfast and it energizes me for the whole day. By the time dinner rolls around, I'm tired from a long day and just not that hungry. I usually cook dinner for my husband and me and end up saving most of mine for lunch. I would personally rather eat a light meal at night so I'm not uncomfortable all night long and wake up hungry. But, I guess it's to each his own.
Breakfast, the most important meal of the day? Really?
I usually wake up starving and head to the gym that way. When I get back, I'm really super starving, so breakfast is never optional. Usually it's steel cut oats with a fried egg and sriracha, mini babybel cheese on the side. On weekends, breakfast burritos.
And 2 cups of coffee with milk. Also non-optional!
Breakfast, the most important meal of the day? Really?
I get wayyyyy too hungry if I don't eat breakfast. I got an office job a few months after finishing school, and I've needed three meals a day ever since.
Breakfast, the most important meal of the day? Really?
If I eat a healthy breakfast, I eat healthy all day. If I eat a pastry, the next thing you know I'm devouring Snickers and fries. For me, that's why it's the most important meal.
Breakfast, the most important meal of the day? Really?
I'm another of those who can't eat upon awakening. My stomach doesn't wake up till a couple hours after I do. When I was working an office job I used to take both breakfast and lunch bentos. By the time I arrived at the cafeteria, half an hour before work, I was hungry enough to eat.
Breakfast, the most important meal of the day? Really?
Ooh, I NEED to eat breakfast! I can sleep in with the best of them but if I start to get hungry my body won't leave me alone until I put something in it. Usually some variation of hot or cold cereal (lately oatmeal or Cheerios) with fruit and soy milk, along with my giant cup of gunpowder tea. It definitely helps my metabolism throughout the day. My breakfasts are never high in protein but I'm a vegetarian who loathes eggs and no longer buys fake meat so there you go.
Breakfast, the most important meal of the day? Really?
i usually start with a big cup of coffee (cafe con leche) and that holds me over for about an hour .... then i try to eat protein ... usually a fritatta with the night before's leftover vegetables.... if find that usually keeps me until late afternoon. then i'll have a cup of tea with a piece of cheese or something.... we tend to eat dinner late. a no-no.... bad habit after working for years in the food business. but i agree with the "if you eat breakfast thing you won't go crazy eating the wrong things during the day" camp.
Breakfast, the most important meal of the day? Really?
For at least 40 years, even the idea of breakfast before being up at least two hours made me sick; eating it made me sicker - my digestion just plain didn't work. Now things have changed a little, and if I'm hungry after I've been up a while (minimum of an hour), I eat - usually leftovers from yesterday's dinner. If I'm not hungry, I save them for lunch. Coffee, however, is necessary upon awakening, and I have always thought of that as my breakfast. Other people, other practices - it all depends on what works for you. It's silly to follow a rule just because it works for someone else.

Not to sound annoying, but I think I'm actually good at that. I do remember the time I had to make room for the churros in my bag and made my male cousin hold it. (Unfortunately, they forced my uncle who had the second batch eat them before he entered, shame).
Breakfast, the most important meal of the day? Really?
It happens to me too, I love breakfast (not always eaten around 6-9 am though), irrational love for pancakes perhaps. I'm not a doctor, biologist or anything of that sort. I will tell you though that I'm generally in a better mood and more focused on classes since I started eating something in the morning (a few times it's actually pancakes).
Breakfast, the most important meal of the day? Really?
@chardonnay - are you eating carbs for breakfast? This is a common problem when carbs are the first food eaten. Try protein in the way of an egg dish, or yogurt - or try a "smoothie" that has yogurt, ice, and fruit. I sometimes put bran in my smoothies but you'll be looking to scrape it off your teeth with your tongue. I have to sneak bran in any way I can (sigh). I generally eat oatmeal but if I find it sets me on an endless hunger throughout the day, I'll switch off to protein for breakfast for a while.
Breakfast, the most important meal of the day? Really?
People of the past and still who do/did physically hard work in all sorts of weather conditions would eat a big breakfast for energy. Now more and more people have desk jobs really don't need to have such an huge breakfast unless they do some sort of vigerous work out before work. I do love breakfast (the hearty kind) but I do not like to eat it in the morning, so I have breakfast at dinner lol. For me in the morning all I want is chai tea latte.
Sneaking food into movies
I usually sneak some food into the movies.. generally I will bake some chocolate chip cookies (I keep several pounds vacuum sealed in the freezer) about an hour before the show. They are still just slightly warm by the time I get in, and perfect to watch a movie with.
Sneaking food into movies
Living in the upper midwest, I spend about 9 months out of the year being cold. It's not a scandalous sneak, but I like smuggling coffee/latte/gas station cappaccino into theaters--the key is a travel mug with a good seal.
Sneaking food into movies
I put soup in a soda cup once and sipped on it during the movie. Other than that I always go armed with lots of water.
Sneaking food into movies
I live in a relatively low-income neighborhood that, for some reason, has a pretty snazy movie theater. I kid you not, I have seen families carry pizzas into the theater. The worst was a family of four that brought a medium-sized watermelon and four Subway sandwiches. I felt so bad for whoever was in charge of cleaning up after them.
Sneaking food into movies
Have always and always will need to keep my mouth happily occupied during entertainment at the movies! Only rules I insist upon are that snacks are quiet (no crackly plastic bags, or loud munching foods) and no imposing smells (garlic, or hot fragrant pizza/sandwiches). Admittedly a little seduced by other movie patrons eating KFC, the smell and the noise was irritating. We are, after all, in a closed indoor situation trying to enjoy a movie theater experience and are not at home where we can hit the pause button.

No guilt if you support the Belmont Studio Cinema in Belmont, MA. You can bring the delicous fresh sandwiches or some gelato from next door (Angelato, http://www.angelatofoods.com/) with you to that theatre 'legally'. This is so much more satisfying for me than popcorn.
Sneaking food into movies
Sort of sneaking in reverse...
When in college, my son and a half-dozen fraternity brothers spent - lost -a weekend in a fancy Chicago hotel on Michigan Avenue. (Could only afford it because they all stayed in one room.) When they regained consciousness (late) on Sunday morning, they noticed the self-serve refrigerator-bar was completely empty. They pulled out the inventory/price list and realized they owed the hotel just a little over $400.
My son remembered there was a Walgreen store with a liquor department a few doors up the street. He took the list there and found miniatures to match virtually everything in the inventory. He sneaked them into the hotel, restocked the bar, and it came to a couple bucks over $50.
