Cook the Book: 'The Homesick Texan Cookbook'

Yes! This book is going on my Christmas list :)

Blueberry-Nectarine Crisp

where do I buy vanilla bean powder?

Cross-Border Shopping Guide: Canada

I agree, deetroitMI: Coffee Crisp is definitely the best candy bar.
I was in Canada last summer visiting family and in 7 or 8 days we went to Tim Hortons for Timbits and coffee at least 5 times.
I also love ketchup chips!

Thanks for the list, I loved it!

General Tso's Chips from Target: Wait, What?

In Canada there are tons of different flavors (er, flavours) of chips that are supposed to taste like other things. Chicken tikka, hot wings, bacon, dill pickles, baked potato, fries n' gravy, roast chicken, and of course ketchup. There were more Asian inspired ones I can't remember the name of.

I like the ketchup and the dill pickle, since I grew up with them. The more crazy flavors I noticed on a recent trip to visit family. They don't sound that appealing!

Poll: Where'd You Do Most of Your Thanksgiving Grocery Shopping?

Split between Trader Joes and a little produce market

Serious Entertaining: How To Throw A Zombie Dinner Party

@Cassaenra : Hilarious!!

Campbell soup recipe - comments disabled?

I seem to have miscommunicated. I see nothing wrong with SE posting that recipe or raising revenue in this way. I understand they have bills to pay. And am very happy the bills are paid so they can continue to bring me great content!

I was trying to ask why the comments were disabled. It seems there are lots of people who like this recipe and people who don't, as well as a debate about different ingredients that could have been a part of that article. One of my favorite parts of SE is seeing the comments underneath of a recipe... more interactive than a cookbook.

@Adam Kuban, I see your difference about advertisement v. forum and I guess that I can accept this answer! :)

Condiment Confessions

Poll: Should Coffee Shops Ban Laptops?

If the problem is the people are staying too long, then the coffee shop should implement a time limit, not a computer ban.

The Salmonella Scare: Are You Eating Fewer Eggs?

I buy my eggs at TJ's, who was not part of the recall.

Favorite Chats with a Grocery Store Cashier?

only happens at Trader Joe's, although I've had really friendly Whole Foods cashiers too

Translating Coffee Menus: Different Names for 'Coffee Plus Milk'

I've been wondering why on earth Starbucks calls what I consider a cafe au lait (brewed coffee + steamed milk) a cafe misto?
Any ideas?

Poll: Did You Take Home Ec in High School?

I answered 'yes' but really no, I took Home Ec in junior high school. It was half sewing and half cooking. Very enjoyable and I still have one of the things that I made in the sewing section!

McDonald's May Be Sued by Nutrition Watchdog Over Happy Meal Toys

it's up to the parents to decide what their children eat. period.

The Crisper Whisperer: Sweet and Savory -- 5 Summer Foods That Swing Both Ways

Pineapple!
I love pineapple on pizza, in stir-fry, grilled, on kebabs, etc.
It is also wonderful as a dessert- in cake (pineapple upside down cake), in a fruit salad, or just by itself.

5 Ways to Eat Chocolate for Breakfast

I add chocolate chips to my banana bread. Very tasty!

Tasting Tour: Eating in Houston, Texas

I agree with @MikeinHouston ... Ninfa's is not that good.

I recommend:
Kasra's on Westheimer (Persian)
Lupe Tortilla's (TexMex)
Treebeard's (Cajun, inside a church in downtown)
Goode Co. (BBQ)
Kolache Factory

And if you are feeling like a burrito better (but comparable) than Chipotle, try Freebirds.

Grilling: Pineapple Salsa

"Their" quite tasty? Sorry, the teacher in me just cried a little bit.

The United States of Pizza: Where to Eat Pizza in California (Part 1, Northern California)

@svhendler - the Cheeseboard is on the to-try list.

I just ate there yesterday and it was quite tasty! Recommended!

Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution (Ep. 3): 'French Fries Are Vegetables!'

We decided after last night's episode that Alice ONLY does her job for the money, doesn't give a sh*t what crap the kids eat, and just wants to do the bare minimum to still get paid.

@salthands, I agree, I'm pretty sure she said seven years, not seven months.

Also, he should totally forget about that radio DJ. He's just a cynical jerk with a really bad attitude and a narrow mind.

Doctors Propose 18% 'Pizza Tax' to Fight Obesity, Offset Health-Care Costs

If I am paying for the obsese people's medical bill with my tax dollars, it is definitely my business how much soda they drink. I am against both of them in principle, but if they are going to socialize health care they NEED to have a soda tax.

@liane.v I agree, getting rid of corn subsidies would solve a lot of these problems naturally....

Grocery Self-Checkout Lanes: Way or No Way?

way ---- IF they have a book for codes. like the code for bringing your own bag. or for celery. etc.

Green Beans Almondine

It's amandine.
It's a French dish; amande is almond in French.

Campbell soup recipe - comments disabled?

Howcome I can not comment on the Campbell soup recipe? I would like to comment. The recipe looks good but I'm not making anything that has Campbell's soup in it... that soup has more ingredients with unpronounceable names than I would like in my body! Campbell's soup was one of the first things that left my kitchen when I started following an all-natural diet.

I am disappointed in SE because I think this recipe is below the standards of quality that I have come to expect from this site.
