Very neat! This must have been how the manti came about. Lots of great pan-Silk Road ideas out there.

Also 'Indian Chinese' cuisine has a similar dumpling. There used to be a very visible Indian Chinese community in Calcutta (most have since left) and smaller ethnic Chinese communities in some of the other cities. They used to Indianize their cuisine for local tastes. Indian Chinese food is still very popular.

Anyway, can't wait to try this. I've never tried my hand at dumpling making.

I've never had faloodeh with akbar mashti before... it's usually an either or thing (the vermicelli with a rosewater and/or sometimes sour cherry sorbet OR the saffron ice cream, never together)... since the flavors are so delicate it seems they would clash.

But thanks for this, I'm always looking for decent akbar mashti in the city... I wish some of the ice cream parlors had it in their circulation.

@pickled - Dear me, murtabak is fantastic... I totally forgot about all my SE Asian favorites: roti canai, popiah, satay (indonesian styles are best).

Canadian Licks (around Toronto mostly) is outstanding. The best chilidog ever.

Radiance Tea House on 55th btw. 6th and 7th Aves is outstanding. A lot of variety but Chinese teas are the way to go (as is true everywhere).
