Chain Reaction: Red Robin
I don't like RR at all. Every time I've been to one I think that the cooks wouldn't know what pink was if Strawberry Shortcake bit them in the keister. I personally think Chili's burgers are better and you're more likely to get it cooked the way you ordered it.

I'm a fan of that show and that was a good episode. I love Ron Swanson. :) And I'm sure you can guess which won.

AHT Giveaway: Case of Pat LaFrieda Burgers
When someone commented to me that when I go out, I usually order a burger. Even at sit down restaurants.

Chain Reaction: Ruby Tuesday
I would agree that RT is pretty inconsistent. Their Prime Burger is delicious. When you're there on a good night. When you're not you get the classic substituted and over cooked. As if I'm not supposed to notice? At least at places like Red Robin I expect them not to know how to cook it the way I want.
Dear AHT: Thumbs Up for the 'Kobe Beef Burger' at The Cheesecake Factory
I haven't tried the Kobe but their Factory Burgers are one of my favorites. It's delicious and they always cook it the way I want it.
Slice Poll: Your Sweetheart Doesn't Like Pizza -- Dealbreaker?
Not quite as much as if he'd been allergic to cats but ya, mighta been! Luckily we both love pizza. We're from Chicago it's pretty much in our genes.
AHT Giveaway: Case of Pat La Frieda Burgers
Summer holidays aren't "family" holidays for most but they always were for us. Especially Independence Day since it was also my Nana's birthday. So every 4th of July we'd go into the city or my grandparents would come out to the suburbs to us, and we'd have a cookout. Hot dogs and hamburgers were always happy memories of warm summer afternoons spent having fun, playing cards, running around and just being together. My grandfather died a few years ago and we lost Nana last year. We've now moved away too so no more family cookouts on those summer holidays. (We are moving to a new apartment where we can have a grill so hopefully we can re-start the summer cookout holidays)
Slice Poll: Best Frozen Pizza?
We used to really like Jewel's Chef's Kitchen pizza (regional to Chicago, Jewel is owned by Albertson's) but they've changed it and it's not as good as it used to be. Plus we don't live in Chicago any more. Jack's isn't too bad but they used to be better before Kraft bought them out. I've tried Palermo's and it's ok but too many seasonings to get stuck in my teeth. I tried Home Run Inn frozen pizza when I lived in Chicago and could not choke it down. The cat wouldn't even touch the sausage on it. Target's Market Pantry pizza is really inedible though. Gah.
Culver's: An Above-Average Burger, with Some Consistency Issues
I would say that your first burger there was an unfortunate fluke. I've been to several Culver's in Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa, and Nebraska and have always had great food. Only once has my order ever not been correct, and the service is always great. They employ the most polite people in the food service industry. That first burger is definitely not the norm. Not sure what happened there. I do agree that the cheese curds are good. My husband always gets those but I opt for the fries. I like the mozzarella cheese curds but not so much the cheddar ones and since you can't get all of one or the other, I just skip them. :)
Leftovers: The Day's Stray Links
So the Fuddruckers one bothered me b/c they *just* had a Groupon for Fudd's this week here in Omaha and it was the first time I bought one. I couldn't get that link to open up but I did find this one on WSJ. And also this page on the restructuring which includes which stores are closing (not all are) and luckily, the Omaha stores aren't so my coupon is still good. I may not wait very long to use it though.
This Week's Pizza Poll: Do You Order Sides with Your Pizza?
Sometimes. I like cheesy bread or mozzarella sticks. If you're in Chicago and ordering a deep dish, that's going to take 45 minutes, you might as well get something to nosh on while you wait.
Who Should Choose the Toppings: You or the Chef?
It's my burger, I paid for it, I want it the way I want it. You're gonna make me put onion curls on it or something. I'll just have the water, thanks. Stupid California.
Are Carl's Jr. and Hardee's the Same?
We had Hardee's in Northern IL when I was a kid and they pulled out of the area in the mid 90s. I've eaten there and a few times at Carl's Jr. I personally think that Carl's Jr. is a lot better. I don't know why, they just taste different. I'm in Nebraska now and there is Hardee's in a few places here but I don't seek them out because they aren't super close. I don't think they're the same. But I do like Carl's Jr. enough that if I'm ever out west, I make sure to hit one up.
AHT Poll: Have You Sent Back Burgers for Not Being Cooked to Your Requested Doneness?
I haven't but mostly because I don't feel like waiting or making whomever I'm eating with wait if they feel like being polite. I have sent it back if it's got cheese or other toppings on it that I don't want and didn't order and can not be removed.
Three Burgers in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania: Stewed, Screwed and Lassoed
@eatstkv That's exactly what I was thinking. The stewed burger reminds me of the ones they served back in the day at school. We didn't call it mystery meat for nothing!
AHT Poll: Do You Prefer Burgers With or Without Cheese?
I agree with CatBoy. I love cheese, I love hamburgers, but ne'er the two shall meet. I frequently have to get burgers remade b/c they put cheese on them. If I wanted cheese I would have ordered a cheeseburger and not a hamburger.
@twoshoes: It's not. It's a hamburger.
AHT Poll: Do You Prefer to Eat Your Burger Whole or Cut in Half?
I cut, makes it easier to handle, plus after you finish the first half, oh look you have a whole nother half to go! It's like a little present.
AHT Poll: Undercooked or Overcooked?
Under. At least the flavor won't be cooked out. And you can always cook it more.
Top 5: Daniel Zemans' Favorite Burgers in Chicago
I'm not a big fan of Hackney's. Did not live up to the hype. Also you should try Hop Haus's burgers, delicious. http://www.thehophaus.com/
AHT Poll: What's Your Favorite Burger Bun?
I'm pretty flexible as long as it's toasted.
AHT Poll: Five Guys or In-N-Out?
I haven't had either. Five Guys *just* opened here in town (Omaha) and we haven't gotten over there yet. Sadly we do not have an In N Out burger here and I avoid California like the plague.
How E. Coli Travels from Beef Processing Plant to Burger
So then is buying ground beef from the grocery store OK? I don't generally buy the frozen patties because I don't have room in the freezer for them and I don't like the taste either. I also have a friend who raises cattle and has said I could buy a whole cow, 1/2 of one or 1/4 of one but again, don't have the freezer space to store all that meat. So what's better? Just buying meat and grinding it ourselves? Or having a butcher do it? Giving up on hamburgers is just not an option here! :)
