Cook the Book: Serves One
Usually a pasta dish of some sort with a salad, bread and a glass of wine to accompany the meal. Always eaten at the table with a place setting, a good magazine and the Sirius classic jazz channel in the background to help me linger over my meal.
Comfort foods: men vs. women?
Pasta and bread-carbs, all the way.
Cook the Book: Grill Every Day
Ribs, baked beans and corn on the cob.

Cook the Book: 'The Food Life'
Raleys and Trader Joes: the former because of the location, products and friendliness of the staff and the latter because of the even better products.

Favorite summer food- now and from childhood?
Ice cream from my childhood and nowadays, it's tomatoes.
Cold Cereal Confessions
Copious amounts of Cracklin Oat Bran (seriously) and Quaker 100% natural granola. I love this stuff-I just wish it wasnt' so bad for you.
Cook the Book: The Splendid Table's How to Eat Supper
Ina Garten/Barefoot Contessa:
You and Jeffrey are too cute, since you don't have children, will you adopt me?
How many stores do you shop at for your food?
Two: Raleys and Trader Joes-both once/week. And of course, the farmer's market every Sunday.
Would you rather give up chocolate or cheese?
No brainer: chocolate. I love any and all types of cheese but chocolate I can easily do without.
Cook the Book: 'Vegetable Harvest'
Since my lovable 67 pound labrador likes to eat my tomatoes, I have no other choice than to buy them, and all other produce, at the farmer's market. However, I do grow basil, sage, rosemary and mint; herbs that in my opinion, go with just about anything regardless of the season.
Cook the Book: 'The Breakaway Cook'
Smoked paprika; especially during the bbq'ing days of summer. Yum.
July 4th picnic. I'm taking______
I have been tasked to bring the tortilla roll-ups: cream cheese mixed with Hidden Valley Ranch salad dressing mixed, combined with minced black olives, pimentos and diced green onions. Spread on a tortilla, roll it up and then slice it into small bite size pieces. Not fancy, just good eats.
Cook the Book: 'Donuts, An American Passion'
Marie's on Freeport Blvd in Sacramento. Clearly the best donuts in town.
Cook the Book: 'The Silver Palate Cookbook, 25th Anniversary Edition'
It would have to be the Joy of Cooking. My husband got it for me as a gift years ago before we were married and it's been a go-to reference book ever since.
Cookbook Giveaway: 'Super Natural Cooking'
Easy: oatmeal w/skim milk, blueberries and toasted walnuts. Eat for breakfast, lunch or dinner-great comfort food.
Cookbook Giveaway: 'A Twist of the Wrist'
Canned beans and dried pasta are staples in my pantry and show up in my cooking on a weekly basis-oftentimes together! The beans and/or pasta are used as a side dish mixed w/herbs and olive oil or as a base for meat based dishes.
'On Top of Spaghetti' Book Giveaway
Homemade pesto w/any type of pasta: orecchiete, penne, linguini, et al. but with some sun dried tomatoes thrown in for color.
Question of the Day: How do you store your butter? In the fridge, out on the counter?
Both as well. If I'm going through a period where I am spreading alot of butter on things such as bread and the like, then I'll always have a stick sitting out on the counter. But, I always have some in the fridge as well for baking.
Do you know how to use chopsticks?
I am horrible at chopsticks and at times it can be quite embarassing. I did manage to make it through an entire meal at Nobu 57 though w/out needing to use a fork that the server graciously brought over. But I know my technique is not the proper way.
Question of the Day: Who does the grocery shopping in your household?
I do 99.9% of the grocery shopping in my household. Case in point: on Tuesday, my husband ran to the store to get some last minute items that we needed for our fish tacos (had everything except the all important tortillas). He remarked when he got back, "wow, they remodeled in there didn't they?"
They did so about a year ago. DOH!!
A Toast from Serious Eats
good job! looking forward to the sites evolution!
Cold Cereal Confessions
Weirdly enough, I hate most sugary things but LOVE Cinammon Toast Crunch. But I also like plain cheerios.
My college hang out used to be a tiny underground cafe where they had things like endless cups of coffee or cereal for two bucks. You could just keep on getting up and going for more. I had many a late night just eating bowls of Cinammon Toast Crunch while doing school work...
Cold Cereal Confessions
I love cheerios and kix as a child. I like to eat mildly flavoured cold cereals, and not sugary ones.

Cook the Book: 'The Food Life'
Ralphs, mainly cuz it's really close to us
Cook the Book: 'The Food Life'
i shop at albertsons because they have a lot of good sales
Cook the Book: 'The Food Life'
I love Henry's market in San Diego. It's close to my house, they have great deals on local fruits and veggies, and they have $3 bottles of wine. Awesome.
Cook the Book: 'The Food Life'
Central Market in Houston - great prepared food and basics at good prices
Cook the Book: 'The Food Life'
I usually shop at the new Super Walmart purely because they just opened a store a mile from where I work. My favorite supermarket is Trader Joe's, but I don't go but a few times a year since 45 minutes is too long to drive to get up there. I have a feeling that I would like Whole Foods a lot too if I ever go to one, but the nearest one of those is at least an hour away.
Cook the Book: 'The Food Life'
Vons is my favorite store. They usually have the things I need on sale and they still double coupons. The fruits and vegetables are high quality which you can't get in the discount stores. The meat is fresh and there is a nice assortment.
Cook the Book: 'The Food Life'
We recently moved to West Virginia, which has stunning natural beauty and the nicest people on the planet...but the grocery stores here are terrible. Locally, my only choice is an IGA. My favorite all-time grocery store was Wegman's, which I used to be able to visit when we lived in Virginia.
Cook the Book: 'The Food Life'
Here in Texas, I love HEB. They have a great wine, health food, bakery, deli and sushi section. I can get almost anything there and the people are awesome!
Cook the Book: 'The Food Life'
I love Lunds/Byerlys, a local store. Great products that you can't find elsewhere. Plus, the stores are always very clean.
Cook the Book: 'The Food Life'
Since we don't have a lot of variety here, I would have to say Fresh Market for variety and displays but it is almost 20 miles away. For meat I would have to say Star Market and for the rest it is a toss up between Kroger and Publix.
Cook the Book: 'The Food Life'
food lion :) great prices and great people
Cook the Book: 'The Food Life'
Super Target, lots of sales and coupons :)
Cook the Book: 'The Food Life'
i love price chopper they double coupons and i save so much on my food bill :)
Cook the Book: 'The Food Life'
My favorite would be Wegmans - they have everything you could ever imagine...granted I don't go there regularly as I have a Giant Foods close by and quicker to get everything...Giant is good too!
Cook the Book: 'The Food Life'
Kroger - because the more I spend there - the less they charge me for gas! Plus they track the items that I buy the most often and then send me coupons for them to use later!
Cook the Book: 'The Food Life'
I love shopping at Whole Foods Market because the products are high quality, and the employees are friendly and helpful.
Cook the Book: 'The Food Life'
Kroger because they are the largest market offering the greatest variety of goods and they have weekly specials. garrettsambo@aol.com
Cook the Book: 'The Food Life'
i like shopping at the 99 cent store, they have the weirdest food there.
Cook the Book: 'The Food Life'
I love my local Albertsons because everyone knows our family and they have ingredients for some of the ethnic dishes that I like to make that other supermarkets do not carry.
Cook the Book: 'The Food Life'
I can't afford to shop at Whole Foods, Central Market, or our Farmer's Market. I don't even like to go in - it is just too depressing. I have 3 major chain grocery stores, a Sam's Club, a Super WalMart and 2 Super Target stores within 5 miles of me. I go where I can get the best bargains. Actually, I do a majority of my shopping at an independent store not far from my house. Their produce is usually better and cheaper than the other stoes, bread is always cheaper, and their meat is very good (but I only buy it on sale - better prices than the other stores). Thanks for the chance to win.
Cook the Book: 'The Food Life'
Walmart is my choice - great value
