Japanese restaurant in Seattle?

I second the Kisaku recommendation. It's more than just sushi.

I think you mean "allergic to pome fruits." Apples aren't stone fruits.

Does anyone have a good General Tso's recipe?

Try one of these: http://appetiteforchina.com/recipes/general-tsos-chicken/
I've made the 2009 version a few times and it gets fantastic reviews from my guests every time. I keep meaning to try the updated version. I can't imagine it's not great, too.

Mexican and/or southwestern meal. 8 courses. Suggestions.

FYI @KarmaFreeCooking, Ceviche is definitely Mexican. It's probably also Peruvian, too. And no Mexican thinks paletas are simply lollipops.

Honolulu and Maui Eats --

We went to Maui for the first time last year and, with a few recommendations from a friend who lived there for a while, was thrilled with the food.
My husband and I absolutely loved Mama's Fish House (in Paia). It has a beautiful oceanside view and incredible seafood. It's not cheap, but the price is definitely worth it for a nice meal.
For cheaper plate lunch fare, try Da Kitchen in Kihei. It's perfect for the not-oceanside-fancy dinner.

Portland, Ore., — and the rest of Oregon — is a fantastic place for a beer vacation.

Japanese Snacks: Chewy Candy

I love Botan Rice Candy. I was hooked on it when I was 8 years old. I thought I was pretty cool for liking a candy that was from another country. It was, and still is, the only Japanese candy available at the supermarket we shopped at when I was a kid. No, they didn't even have Pocky.

No wedding cake -- a new trend???

My husband and I chose to have wedding pie instead of cake for our mid-summer 2009 wedding. It was a hit. We both love pies and so does just about everyone we know. I made the centerpiece pie (the one we ate) which was topped off by the cake topper from my husband's grandparents' wedding cake. The others (cherry pies) were from a fantastic bakery nearby. They were beautiful and fit right in for our outdoor wedding set amongst fruit orchards.
In short, we didn't miss the cake.

And what about the Camp Fire candy?

My best friend was a Camp Fire kid (we're from Washington state) and I used to go door-to-door with her to sell the candies. My family always ended up with a few boxes. Those mint patties are the best. As for Almond Roca, well, that's available year-round where I live.

Autumn is here! What is your favorite apple?

My favorites: Rubinette, a newer variety, and Spitzenberg, an old standby beloved by bakers. They're both juicy, crunchy and bursting with flavor.
The only problem with these two is that they're hard to find. I worked at our family fruit stand outside Wenatchee, WA, during high school and college. The stand boasts more than 120 varieties of apples grown on-site. I got spoiled for sure, getting to taste every apple we grew, and I grew to love ones I could only find there.
As for more common varieties, Cripps Pink (trademarked as Pink Lady) are delicious, as are Braeburn. I love a good Golden Delicious, too, though.
@girlalive: Yep, Pink Lady apples are definitely grown in Washington.

Have You Heard of JoJos?

I'm from Washington (the state) and we had jojos all the time. Homemade jojos, jojos from the aldersmoked fish place on the piers in Seattle, jojos from Safeway, I could go on and on. I kinda figured jojos were a part of everyone's childhood.
Go jojos!

Seattle Secrets? Your favorite restaurant in Seattle?

My favorite hidden gem is Marcello, at 7115 Roosevelt Way NE (just south of the Roosevelt Safeway). They make the best Italian food. It's like stepping into Italy if only for a couple of hours. Plus, they have a small outdoor seating area for when the weather warms up.
The Tom Douglas restaurants never fail to make me a happy eater; try Etta's (next to the market) for a nice view, with your dinner.
Crow, in Lower Queen Anne is very good, especially the chicken (yeah, the chicken) and their greens.
On a hot day, the deck at Agua Verde (on Portage Bay) is the perfect place for a margarita and a fish taco.
If you're on Capitol Hill try the Kingfish Cafe for some really comforting Southern food.

Good eats in Maui

My husband and I just got back from Maui and had some really good food.
For Hawaiian food, check out Aloha Mixed Plate in Lahaina. Good views, great food, awesome prices.
I had the best fish of my life at Mama's Fish House in Paia. (The lobster-stuffed, macadamia-nut crusted mahi mahi is to-die-for.) The restaurant is pricey, but compared with the rest of Maui, it's no big deal, you get what you pay for. Plus, it's got great views.
I second the recommendation to try apple bananas. They're super duper flavorful and make a great snack when you're traveling the Hana Highway or up to Haleakala. By the way, if you do drive the Hana Highway, stop at the Keanae Landing Fruit Stand for Antie Sandy's banana bread. Ours was hot from oven (we had to wait 10 minutes for it to cool before they gave it to us) and very flavorful, perfect for a snack stop on the windy road.

Dinner Tonight: Panuchos Yucatecos con Chorizo

Panuchos and salbutes are everywhere in the Yucatan. A friend of mine who's from there took us all over the peninsula and frequently stopped for a bite or two of the snack at roadside stands and markets. Chicken is a common topping, but it's turkey that's traditional. I like mine topped with a bit of shredded cabbage too. Thanks for the culinary reminder of a great locale.
