Buying bison meat online
I've never eaten them, but almost every time I go to Seattle I drive by the seemingly happy (if that makes a difference to you) roaming buffalo from Swauk Prairie Bison.
Speedy Wedding in Seattle: Help Needed, Please!
If your people like Italian food (who doesn't?) try Marcellos on Roosevelt Ave. in North Seattle. Best Italian food in Seattle, a hidden gem, to use an overused phrase. And the atmosphere is perfect for a rehearsal dinner.
What to do with leeks?

Dinner Tonight: Panuchos Yucatecos con Chorizo
Panuchos and salbutes are everywhere in the Yucatan. A friend of mine who's from there took us all over the peninsula and frequently stopped for a bite or two of the snack at roadside stands and markets. Chicken is a common topping, but it's turkey that's traditional. I like mine topped with a bit of shredded cabbage too. Thanks for the culinary reminder of a great locale.
Coconut Candy Recipe Help
I have a recipe my dad used to make all the time. Here's a link to the Coconut Bon Bons.
What kind of Candy or Cookies do you make for Christmas
Penuche

Cardamom Butter Squares
Bittersweet Chocolate Cookies

Adding Flavor to Plain Cheesecake
My favorite cheesecake to make for the holidays is this Spiced Eggnog Cheesecake.
It's so easy to make, looks pretty, tastes great and cooks very nicely.
I WON A KITCHEN AID. Now, what do I do with it?
I'm so jealous of your pasta attachment!
But, as for your question, divinity is perfect for a stand mixer.
Help me fellow SE members... a bizarre request awaits...
I like apple pie, too. It goes with everything. By the way, Gourmet.com has two new videos today about how to make and roll out traditional pie pastry. For those who've never done it before, it's good instruction.
Caramel Apple Pie
I make a butterscotch apple pie by making homemade butterscotch from 1 cup brown sugar, 1/4 cup butter and 1/2 cup cream. It is then poured over the apples prior to the top crust being put on. My recipe is at the end of this article I wrote about entering a recipe contest. The butterscotch makes the pie very rich.
Does Your Grocery Store Have You Crying Tears of Joy?
I have had the privilege of visiting a Wegmans in NJ and it was beautiful. It reminded me of my favorite grocery store on earth, Central Market, in Shoreline, WA, (pretty much Seattle) not Texas. The produce/meat department takes up what seems to be half of the store. Here's what I love about it: every veggie and fruit you could ask for, low prices, high quality, bulk foods, a wine expert, prosciutto you can read through, bins of clams and mussels, cheese, Japanese candy ... and toilet paper too.
If only I didn't now live three hours from it.
tahini paste.... how do you like to use it?
Forgot to mention, they're sesame cookies and call for 1/2 cup tahini.
tahini paste.... how do you like to use it?
These cookies, from last year's Dec. Gourmet cookie issue are great. I didn't do the gilding, who would?
Ed Levine's Questionable Pizza Practices: Do You Leave Your Pies Out Overnight? For Two Nights?
I grew up in a house that left pizza out overnight. It rarely got left out longer, but that's because usually everyone ate it. None of us got sick from it as far as I know. Now, though, I put it in the fridge, mainly so people aren't afraid to eat at my house.
Best produce ever
A ripe peach. A big, sweet, cool, juicy peach from the family fruit stand. Problem is, I've had so many, I don't remember the best one. I can't count the number of times my chin has dripped with sweet peach nectar. Made you jealous, huh?
Foods that make you go hurl
I came down with the flu (lasted a week) on the same day I had top ramen as an after-school snack and for dinner when I was about 9 years old. I loved the stuff then but couldn't stand the smell of that spice packet until about five years ago. Still don't care for it.
Dinner Tonight: Seared Steak Tacos with Cactus Paddles
One of my favorite ways to eat cactus paddles, known as nopalitos to those familiar with Mexican cuisine, is to use the canned stuff (found in the Mexican food aisle of a well-stocked grocery store), drain it, and mix it with a couple of tablespoons of mayonnaise. Canned nopalitos come cut into strips and are a bit spicy because there's a jalapeño or two canned with them. Few snacks hit the spot like a jar of nopalitos with mayo.
Chewing the Fat: Alton Brown on Donuts
@SpoonInHand
Try Family Doughnut Shop in Northgate. Head west from I5 onto Northgate Way. It's on the right in the strip mall.
Photo of the Day: Ginger Skeleton Cookies
Those are fantastic (and cute)!
Pizza With a Knife & Fork?
I don't really use a knife, but a fork is a must, that is until the crust. Why fold pizza? If you want dough wrapped around fillings, eat a calzone.
What's the craziest thing you ever ate?
In Japan it got to eat natto, fermented soybean goo, with mustard. It's not bad. Very nutty. I was told it's a health food in there.
Seattle restaurant recommendations
One of my favorite spots for Italian food when I went I lived in Seattle was Marcellos in the Roosevelt neighborhood. http://www.marcelloseattle.com/
It's like stepping into Italy. It's not quintessentially Seattle, but it's off the beaten path for sure, and fantastic.
I'll second the recommendation to go to Shultzy's in the U District. They have great cole slaw and sausages and the best shoestring fries. Yum.
Another U District great food spot is Agua Verde (http://www.aguaverde.com/) though it's best on a sunny day so you can sit on the deck.
One more suggestion, Crow in Lower Queen Anne near McCaw Hall. Small but delicious menu.
Do You Have a Favorite Greek Yogurt?
Cabot's Plain Greek Style Yogurt is absolutely wonderful! The price is right, too....much less expensive that Fage. Trader Joe's brand yogurt is also very good....especially the Honey flavoured. I like plain yogurt with a dollop of lemon curd....YUMMY!
Fage is fine but way too expensive.....rather make it myself than pay that amount. Oixos and Chobani, not so much.
Do You Have a Favorite Greek Yogurt?
oikos w/ honey!!
Do You Have a Favorite Greek Yogurt?
Greek Gods Yogurt - Honey Flavor
Do You Have a Favorite Greek Yogurt?
Fage with honey is fantastic
Tried Oikos and didn't care for it, same with Chobani.
Cabot's is hard to find but I did and it was a dissappointment. There is a local European, Turkish, Greek foodstore around here that I hear makes their own that I need to try. That said however, I really only like Fage as far as grocery store Greek yogurts are concerned.
Do You Have a Favorite Greek Yogurt?
Liberté Méditerranée or Astro Balkan Style - but maybe only in Canada?
Do You Have a Favorite Greek Yogurt?
It's Fage or Trader Joe's for me.
Do You Have a Favorite Greek Yogurt?
I think Oikos, Chobani, and pretty much all the others I have tried taste vile.
Do You Have a Favorite Greek Yogurt?
Cabot's Greek Style yogurt - their low-fat vanilla bean is our current favorite, and gotta love that it's made in Vermont!
Do You Have a Favorite Greek Yogurt?
The Greek Gods honey flavor. One of the best things I've ever eaten.
Do You Have a Favorite Greek Yogurt?
I agree with Oikos being running. I buy TJ's simply because it's cheaper, but I love Fage.
Do You Have a Favorite Greek Yogurt?
@jay27 - I agree with you; Voskos is my favorite too! I can't believe it hasn't been mentioned more than once in this thread...
3 Greek Gods is my second choice, after Voskos.
As for the Oikos (Stonyfield), I don't really care for any of them except for the strawberry flavor... the plain, vanilla, and honey flavors all have a strange, chalky consistency; I don't know how the strawberry flavor managed to escape the same fate, but it is the only Oikos flavor that I ever buy.
Do You Have a Favorite Greek Yogurt?
I'm curious about the Stonyfield - I usually grab TJ or Fage, just because they're so prevalent.
Do You Have a Favorite Greek Yogurt?
I get TJ's regular goat's milk yogurt, and strain it down to a Greek yogurt consistency. Its a little work for outstanding results.
Do You Have a Favorite Greek Yogurt?
I love Fage! Oikos is a very distant second. Chobani is chalky and not so good.
Do You Have a Favorite Greek Yogurt?
I prefer Fage. Oikos and Chobani taste like chalk.
Do You Have a Favorite Greek Yogurt?
The only ones I've seen are Fage, Oikos and Chobani.
Do You Have a Favorite Greek Yogurt?
Total = Fage.
I like this Fage the best. It's what they use all over Greece. While in Crete, we had yogurt with spoon fruits after every meal. Utterly delicious!
Do You Have a Favorite Greek Yogurt?
you know, i find mountain high yogurt to have a consistency that rivals even the best gree yogurts. but of those marketed as greek style yogurt, i like oikos
Do You Have a Favorite Greek Yogurt?
Fage (the 2%) is my favorite. I've tried others, but always go back to Fage.
Do You Have a Favorite Greek Yogurt?
I have very few to choose from, but I like Cabot followed by Chobani.
Do You Have a Favorite Greek Yogurt?
chobani and stonyfield oikos!
Do You Have a Favorite Greek Yogurt?
I don't have a Trader Joes or Whole Foods, but I'm stuck on Fage (0% and 2%) and Oikos--both plain. I cannot stand sweetened yogurt and despite the cost, I will never stray away from the Greek from now on!
Do You Have a Favorite Greek Yogurt?
Brown Cow just started their own Greek yogurt as well.
Do You Have a Favorite Greek Yogurt?
I can't believe no one has mentioned Voskos!!!!! It is my favorite by far! Fage and chobani are a bit too tart (almost to the point of bitterness) and Oikos is too runny. Voskos is the best on the market and actually sells you a FULL CUP (gasp) of yogurt rather than the 5.3 oz and 6 oz containers. It makes me sad there are no Trader Joe's in Colorado :-(
