Mono+Mono in the East Village: Where the Space Trumps the Food

I actually like the fried chicken here a lot, but this restaurant is horrible. Setting aside for the moment that there is nothing worth eating on the menu beside the chicken, eating here is a huge pain in the ass. It's crowded, it takes forever to get your food, and the restaurant is set up really poorly in terms of using the space well. We had a 9pm reservation and didn't get seated until 10:30, and even then squeezed into a table that was too small for 5 people. Next to the table was a giant standing coat rack that was overloaded with coats -- bar backs and busy boys had to squeeze past it to get into the kitchen, which not caused it to fall over one me. Twice. The first time was kind of funny, but the second time not so much. It was heavy.

Calves Brains...Apparently I Am Satan? Still too taboo?

Sweetbreads usually refer to the thymus gland, though people sometimes mistakenly refer to brains (or testicles) as sweetbreads. I'd try artisinal, local butcher shops rather than a big supermarket like Whole Foods. Hopefully you have those wherever you are. If you happen to be in NY, the Meat Hook in Williamsburg is a good place to try.
