Seriously Delicious Holiday Giveaway: Zingerman's Culinary Adventure Society
On a cold, rainy daytrip to Saltspring Island in BC, walking on the beach we discovered we were surrounded by oyster beds. Cracking them open with my keys (the only prying-type object we had on hand) and slurping down as many as we could, tossing the empty shells back where the oysters had just been living, was the most primal, fantastic experience of my eating life.
Seriously Delicious Holiday Giveaway: Southside Market Sausage
How timely - I just returned from an impromptu BBQ tour of Kansas City! Oklahoma Joe's was my favorite by far (and it wasn't even burnt end night.) I am mourning the recent passing of Vermont St. BBQ in Lawrence, KS, though - theirs were a close second.
Cakespy: Candy Corn Nanaimo Bars
I've been longing for a proper Nanaimo Bar for years since I left Canada - I'm not actually from Nanaimo, but close enough for people to take the institution very seriously.
I brought these in to work today and they disappeared instantly. Even the people who were grossed out by the idea (melted candy corn? a what bar?) had to admit that they were fantastically tasty.
This is the only variation I will accept on the holy Nanaimo, but it's one I will defend to the death.

oof- I feel your pain. I went through this but exactly last year (2 days before the start of Hanukkah and 2.5 weeks before Xmas in a house that celebrated both!) going out is of course great advice but I think you and I both know it can't be forced. I'm a big proponent of having friends over - friends who you don't have to worry about impressing and who are happy to share your red wine and chips and salsa.
To answer your question: lots of wine, and definitely carbs. I gravitated toward the bland favorites of childhood stomach flus: toast, white rice with butter & salt, or congee. About as comforting as comfort food gets. Hang in there.
