There's no contest - Top Chef is such a better show! I can't believe TNFNS could be more appealing to anyone who actually likes to cook! I'll stick with Top Chef, thank you very much!
'Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs,' The Movie
I love when they go sledding on the butter pats!! This is so exciting! It's one of my favorite childhood food books, rivaled only by If You give a Mouse a Cookie...
Giordano's, a Stuffed Pizza Classic in Chicago
Funny timing - our blog just went into the kitchen at Lou Malnati's (another Chicago pizza institution) and watched them make it. You can see the whole video here.
@Kerosena - one slice of Giordano's can easily fill up a "normal" person! They are huge slices and - as you would imagine - very heavy. I've been known to do 1 1/2 slices on a very hungry day :)

48 Hours in Montreal: A Guide to Eating
I was in Montreal last month and posted about the Atwater Market too! I think ate at least a dozen bagels in one weekend. Yum!

What's Your Favorite Thanksgiving Food?
Stuffing! My grandma makes two kinds: bread-based and corn-meal based and both are amazing! My boyfriend's family is Russian, so not only do they have a turkey, but they have lots of traditional Russian food - it's fantastic!
PS we asked lots of bloggers this question on Chew on That for the November Monthly Mouthful - responses (and recipes!) will be posted on Wednesday. :)
When you have a lot of cream cheese, you should make ____.
Noodle kugel! This was the first thing that came to mind (before cheesecake, even!): http://www.recipe4living.com/Recipe/25082-CecesKugel.aspx. Seriously rich but totally worth it and a great way to use up your cream cheese!
America's Best Hot Dog Town: Cast Your Vote
B. Chicago. No contest. There's absolutely nothing like a Chicago hot dog charred to perfection.
Voluptuous Veg and Prurient Protein
I have a hard time paying Whole Foods' prices, but they do have the best selection by far. Thanks for all the links to local Chicago butchers and fish markets - I bookmarked them all for future reference! :)
Montreal Bagels Exposed
I have a lot of close family in Montreal and whenever we visit, we never leave without armfuls of bagels (and tummies full of smoked meat!). I think we're comparing apples and oranges here. As it's been said, Montreal bagels are sweeter, slightly chewier, skinnier and seedier. Personally, I think they require more cream cheese as well, but I'd take a Montreal bagel any day!
Organizing all those recipes
I'm a need-to-be-organized-in-files type of person, so I have file folders for categories and the cut/torn out recipes sorted into those. If I were to start over now, I'd definitely move it all online! It's so much easier to reference!
A Sure Cure for the Passover Blahs
As I sit at my desk covered in matzah crumbs, this video is fantastically appropriate! A bit too much work for a piece of matzah, but an excellent technique (and party trick)!
A Little Revisionist Passover History
Strictly speaking, peanuts are legumes and cannot be eaten on Passover. It does sound delicious though!
Question of the Day: How did you get your first cooking-related burn?
I touched my forearm to the top of the oven. I was taking a roasting pan of chicken out of the oven and I had mitts on, but I was wearing short sleeves and I got scorched! I have a nice white scar to show for it. So stupid! :)
Bagel Love
In high school I had "early bird" gym class because my schedule was so busy and the only way I could make it to the 7:30 class was to stop at Upper Crust (Deerfield, IL) and pick up a bagel and lox spread. To this day it's my slow-morning pick-me-up!
And grubnoise - I don't think you can even compare Montreal bagels to the classic NY bagel. Equally as satisfying, but in a totally different way.

Take away the condiments and fancy buns and one hot dog stands alone, the Kogel Vienna from Flint, Michigan period.

'Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs,' The Movie
This was one of my favorite books as a child. Did you know there's a sequel, "Pickles to Pittsburgh"?

PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND
New York System weiners can't be beat. Onions, mustard, celery salt, topped with meat sauce on a steamed bun. Don't forget about that delicious "snap"!

we went to Montreal on our honeymoon and went to almost everyone of the places you listed!
Giordano's, a Stuffed Pizza Classic in Chicago
Correction to the article: I met with Leo Spizzirri today, who's the GM and Executive Chef at Giordano's. I learned a lot of good pizza info, but wanted to correct one thing here: There is no shortening in Giordano's crust. There is no butter in the dough, but a good amount of butter goes in the pan before the dough is added.
A couple of other good nuggets: they use different sauces for the stuffed and thin crust, with the stuffed version being much chunkier; the cheese is whole milk mozzarella; and the dough is prepared 3-4 days in advance of cooking.
48 Hours in Montreal: A Guide to Eating
Many years ago (1970's) I used to go through Montreal on my way to ski in the Laurentians. My favorite restaurant was La Fado or Fadeux at 423 Rue St. Claude in Old Montreal. Does anyone know if it still exists? In addition to great continental food, their wine cellar was spectacular. They also had barrels of brandy and cognac that they had acquired in the early fifties and sold cheaper than the popular brands like Remy and Hennessey. I'd love to know if they are still in business.

Well done, Zach! Way to do it up right. Man, I can't wait to get back there....

Good review! Although St-Viateur bagels are definitely superior. Fairmount are undercooked and doughy... Bon appétit!

Everyone should go to www.chezcora.com to see what they've been missing. NOM NOM NOM NOM
48 Hours in Montreal: A Guide to Eating
Yeah, Cora's! That place was awesome. There are like 5 of them in Montreal and really really tasty breakfast/ brunch food. Much better than IHOP. They should expand down to NYC. Thanks Amazon!
48 Hours in Montreal: A Guide to Eating
I spend a few weeks a year in Montreal and while Schwartz's is amazing, I also love Snowdon Deli (www.snowdondeli.ca). I try to have lunch there at least once when I'm there!!

This is perfect- my fiance and I will be in Montreal for a mini-moon of 2 days after our wedding in 2 weeks! Thanks for the tips!
48 Hours in Montreal: A Guide to Eating
@DanielJ ... would it be "Cora's"? They are a Quebec franchise that specialize in breakfast/brunch foods. The main feature ... lots and lots of fresh fruit with every meal - and beautifully presented.
48 Hours in Montreal: A Guide to Eating
Thank you for this splendid article! I love Montreal and Montrealers know and love good food. I love the "just for fun" fois gras topping.
Well, you've made me hungry and wishing I could just pop out the door to Rue St. Denis...
Merci encore!
48 Hours in Montreal: A Guide to Eating
wow! I went to Montreal 4 weeks ago and thanks to your earlier post went to Atwater market! It was so much fun. And actually had breakfast there :)
Also, absolutely loved the bagel place you talked about. Unfortunately we could not get reservations to Au Pied du Cochon, but had a great dinner at Trinity (Greek food).

America's Best Hot Dog Town: Cast Your Vote
I'm sure if you like bland tomatoes, plain yellow mustard, and raw onion, etc etc... then Chicago dogs are fine. I personally don't like drowning a good beef hotdog with all those condiments. Give me a delectable grilled Hebrew National topped with a slightly spicy mustard and some homemade relish...absolute perfection! If you go this route with a Vienna dog, you will soon realize where it pales in comparison to the much superior Hebrew National dog. Sauerkraut can also be a good option, but it's an acquired taste. I find tomatoes and yellow mustard to be a clash of flavors in any situation. Long live Hebrew National, king of the hotdogs!!!!
'Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs,' The Movie
I love this book! How I WISHED I could step outside and fill my plate every time I read it.
Can't wait for the movie!

Is this for real or did somebody make this up????and what kind of ratings are being used?? Top Chef is far better show in every aspect and cooking too...
Ratings Watch
That's nutso. I watched both shows, and think Top Chef was by far the most interesting. Then again, TNFNS did finally pull itself together there during the last few episodes.

Whatever happened to the chick that won last year? I saw one of her shows at like 8:00am on a Sunday and that was it. I agree with the previous posts...anyone who is a "foodie" or has a passion for cooking should be watching Top Chef. Old housewives are probably watching Next Foodnetwork Star. The contestants are a joke. Why would I want to watch a cooking show hosted by a person I know can't cook...I know because I saw it first hand on NFNS!

This is horrifying. Top Chef fans HAVE to spread the word about the show or we're never going to get it right. Top Chef kills TNFNS. Even though I watched TNFNS, I won't do it again because it was so disappointing. It was the first season I watched, and really, it just falls short of Top Chef. And don't even get me started on Hell's Kitchen. . .
Organizing all those recipes
Also worth a shot is http//onetsp.com - a new site I've been building over the last few weeks. It's meant to be incredibly simple for you to collect and manage all of your recipes in one place.
An added benefit is that you can access your recipes from your mobile phone as well (http://onetsp.mobi). Sign up and give it a shot!
'Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs,' The Movie
Awesome! Can't wait to see how they bring it to life. Mmm. Gorgonzola snow flurries. Now that's some weather I could get behind.
@miss ginsu: I LOVED the Giant Jam Sandwich. Oh my goodness, it's been years since I thought of that book!
