Do You Like Eating Pie Crust By Itself?
oh my gosh...i am the SAME exact way! the pie fillings that i like are of the non-fruit variety (pecan, pumpkin, coconut cream), but when it's a fruit-filled pie, i eat around the filling and go for the "goo-enhanced crust" (love that, by the way). unless, of course, it's served a la mode, in which case i'll eat it all.

The Milk in Pumpkin Pie Debate
i actually recently saw a recipe that used melted vanilla ice cream as the milk element! haven't tried it yet, but it certainly caught my gluttonous attention :)
That's Nuts: Five Things To Do with Leftover Halloween Candy
the oatmeal raisinet cookie idea is so great!! i'm definitely going to make that.
i have a couple of stupidly easy recipes that i've made with candy (although not leftover- like some other commenters, i know of no such thing). while i love baking from scratch, these both use mixes, and i've gotten more rave reviews from them than anything else- it hurts my wannabe ina garten pride a bit:
1- make a brownie mix per instructions. pour half of the batter into the prepared pan. break up a toffee bar (or any other type of chocolate bar, really) and layer the bar evenly over the batter. pour in the other half of batter. bake.
2. (similar to cookie suggestion above, but for cupcakes) prepare a brownie mix. fill halfway into greased muffin cups. stick a chocolate PB cup into the batter. fill cups with remaining batter. bake. (i top this with a PB frosting)
Bagels & Pizza in the East Village
la bagel closed - it's now a manhattan outpost of the LI bagel chain bagel boss. david's is a bit north of 16th, it's between 19th and 20th. i'm geographically biased because i live in stuy town, but if you can walk up a few blocks, david's makes a great bagel (and ess-a-bagel is one block up). for pizza, nino's on st. marks and A is always pretty solid. there are also 99 cent slices at mamani on 9th and A, which for dollar slices are pretty good. and stromboli on st marks and 1st is decent too.
Shake Shack, Bill's, and RUB: It's Rainin' Smashed Burgers In This Burg

Dinner in East Village?

whenever friends come into town and ask me to pick a cheap dinner spot, i take them to akina sushi on 14th btwn 1st and A. very reasonable prices and fresh, delicious sushi - and it's BYOB

Cook the Book: 'New Classic Family Dinners'
Layer sauerkraut in a casserole dish, place pork chops on top and season (I use cracked black pepper, garlic powder and smoked paprika), cover with lid or seal with foil, bake in 400 degree oven for 45 minutes. I like to make mashed potatoes with it, but have also just done steamed veggies on the side.

Do You Like Eating Pie Crust By Itself?
I think whoever said "maybe crust haters are used to store bought crusts and never had a scratch crust" might be onto something. Well-made scratch crust...OMG, nothing like it. And you KNOW that someone making a scratch crust would not waste such a labor of love on acky Sandra Lee canned filling.

Coming from a Turkish household, my favorite family dinner is mercimek çorbasi (lentil soup) with köfte (ground beef/meatball-like patties), domatesli pilav (tomato rice), and yogurt.
Do You Like Eating Pie Crust By Itself?
I agree that a higher crust-to-fruit ratio is preferable with fruit pies. The filling is often too sweet and I like a good thick crust to balance it.

We called it "chicken and glop", but it was chicken and rice. How did my mother put up with us?
Cook the Book: 'New Classic Family Dinners'
It depends on the weather for me, but at this time of year it's roast chicken, mashed potatoes, peas (homegrown, please; frozen peas from the store are inevitably overripe), green salad, and pie.

meatloaf and mashed potatoes!
Do You Like Eating Pie Crust By Itself?
I loooooooove pie crust unplugged, especially hot, with a glass of ice cold (whole) milk. I usually make a two crust recipe even if I just need one for a pie so I can have a special treat.

My favorite family dinner would have to be posole. We have it every christmas eve with fresh tamales and it is sooo good.
Do You Like Eating Pie Crust By Itself?
Not particularly but my husband loves, loves, loves pie crust by itself.
Cook the Book: 'New Classic Family Dinners'
Gosh, my favorite family dinner!? That's hard . My family is full of great cooks so I guess it has more to do with the atmosphere. So then I would have to go with Christmas eve dinner. 14 cousins plus 16 Aunts and Uncles all eating and drinking and being merry. Usually there's a goose (which doesn't hurt) and floating islands for desert. super yummm, it warms my heart just to think about it.

Do You Like Eating Pie Crust By Itself?
I totally ignore the fruit - especially when its way too gooey. I'm a crust eater all the way.
