Ed Levine's Serious Diet, Week 94: Too Many Chocolate Chip Cookie Taste Tests
@marchpane - that made me laugh. ed, i so admire you for putting all of this out there, be it a good week or a bad one. i don't think i could do the same. holiday season is, as we all know, tough for everyone - i have thanksgiving immediately followed by my birthday, which amounts to a multitude special meals with loved ones. my main goal is to enjoy life and food while making reasonable sacrifices where i can. for example, having seriously delicious food on only TWO days of "birthday week" instead of four or five. and please keep up the cookie testing - conducting that research is a most valuable service for all new yorkers, and we appreciate it and all that you do!

Dec. 5-7 Loner Vacation
i find everyone at the communal tables at momofuku ssam to be really friendly- it would probably be a great place to dine solo, and you can get some more recommendations there.
how about breakfast at prune or clinton st. baking company? or veselka? some personal favorites :)
what a great trip - have a wonderful time!

Make Your Own Chocolate Bark at Pure Dark in the West Village
this is a cute idea, but chocolate bark is so easy to make! i'm always shocked when i see how much williams sonoma and other stores charge for peppermint bark and other chocolate barks. you can make your own with a double boiler and your favorite mix-ins - makes a great holiday gift for much less moolah.
Serious Chocolate: Easy Chocolate Pie Crust
i'm in the deathly afraid of pie crust camp, and this seems very doable - and not scary at all :)
Win a Free Organic D'Artagnan Turkey
i maintain...cornbread stuffing with pecans and bacon!!!
Chocolate Chip Cookie Championship: The Midtown(ish) Edition
what an upset! i would love to see pret's choc chip cookie sales for today compared to the daily average. how many SE: NY readers returned from lunch today wiping chocolatey crumbs off of their face?

Montreal Bagels: St-Viateur vs. Fairmount
i've grown up in NY my whole life, and i still hold to this day that (forgive me, city gods) the best bagel i've ever had was in montreal. delicious smoked fish, too.
Chocolate Chip Cookie Championship: The Uptown Edition
i just assumed they're picking the dumbo or hudson st stores.

levain FTW! yesss. something to be said for a cookie that redefines your ideal cookie criteria. my birthday is at the end of the month and i can't wait to go uptown and treat myself to some levain!
Win Tickets To A Pre-Thanksgiving Feast For A Great Cause This Monday
I'm thankful for family, friends, and for living in the great city of New York.
Do You Like Eating Pie Crust By Itself?
oh my gosh...i am the SAME exact way! the pie fillings that i like are of the non-fruit variety (pecan, pumpkin, coconut cream), but when it's a fruit-filled pie, i eat around the filling and go for the "goo-enhanced crust" (love that, by the way). unless, of course, it's served a la mode, in which case i'll eat it all.

What's Your Favorite Chocolate Chip Cookie?
i also really like the compost cookie, if that counts. these taste tests are unbelievable - what difficult lives you lead :)
What's Your Favorite Chocolate Chip Cookie?

The Milk in Pumpkin Pie Debate
i actually recently saw a recipe that used melted vanilla ice cream as the milk element! haven't tried it yet, but it certainly caught my gluttonous attention :)
That's Nuts: Five Things To Do with Leftover Halloween Candy
the oatmeal raisinet cookie idea is so great!! i'm definitely going to make that.
i have a couple of stupidly easy recipes that i've made with candy (although not leftover- like some other commenters, i know of no such thing). while i love baking from scratch, these both use mixes, and i've gotten more rave reviews from them than anything else- it hurts my wannabe ina garten pride a bit:
1- make a brownie mix per instructions. pour half of the batter into the prepared pan. break up a toffee bar (or any other type of chocolate bar, really) and layer the bar evenly over the batter. pour in the other half of batter. bake.
2. (similar to cookie suggestion above, but for cupcakes) prepare a brownie mix. fill halfway into greased muffin cups. stick a chocolate PB cup into the batter. fill cups with remaining batter. bake. (i top this with a PB frosting)
Cook the Book: 'Simple Fresh Southern'
I love a homemade cornbread stuffing! Nothing beats it.
Cook the Book: 'Simple Fresh Southern'
My nannie always made a casserole of asparagus, green peas, mushroom gravy and cream cheese and loads of cheddar on top. Though I wouldn't eat this any other day of the year, it just isn't Thanksgiving without it.

I love my hubby's grandma's homemade noodles. They are so, so good.

Ed Levine's Serious Diet, Week 94: Too Many Chocolate Chip Cookie Taste Tests
I think that maybe this is the right week for this to happen. It's like the team who loses the first game of the season, gets that fire in their bellies, then comes back and blows everyone away. With the holidays coming up, this small slip-up will give you that extra drive to stick to your guns and stay committed like you have for the previous 93 weeks. You've got the one crappy week out of the way, now you have six to show off your new lifestyle decisions!

mashed potatoes with wasabi!
Cook the Book: 'Simple Fresh Southern'
Has to be the stuffing! It's the only time of the year I make it. And ooooh so good the nest day- IF it makes it!
Cook the Book: 'Simple Fresh Southern'
My favorite Thanksgiving side is cornbread-sausage stuffing. So rich, so good!
Ed Levine's Serious Diet, Week 94: Too Many Chocolate Chip Cookie Taste Tests
Agree with RJ Foodie, the word diet is a 4 letter word to me, just brings up all sorts of bad associations including the word, bad...
Of all the foods, who can blame u for too many C3's........
Go play some squash, drink some water and reset your internal eating barometer....try on some of your old pants and keep Thinner around....
And have a happy T-day!!!!

Ed Levine's Serious Diet, Week 94: Too Many Chocolate Chip Cookie Taste Tests
@Pupster - There's something about biting into a cookie that makes it more enjoyable. Perhaps it's the knowledge there are more bites to come?
@Ed - 2 lbs isn't horrible. If presented with a choice between cookies or 2 less lbs, I'd choose cookies. You can always exercise a little more tomorrow.
Cook the Book: 'Simple Fresh Southern'
Fried Turkey, stuffing and gingersnap gravy in one bite. By far my favorite holiday as it is truly THE holiday for food lovers! I can't wait!!
Cook the Book: 'Simple Fresh Southern'
Oyster stuffing. Tough part, finding enough people who aren't oyster-phobic...
Cook the Book: 'Simple Fresh Southern'
Gotta go with roasted garlic mashed potatoes. I could eat it all.
Cook the Book: 'Simple Fresh Southern'
green bean casserole, from scratch of course!
Chocolate Chip Cookie Championship: The Midtown(ish) Edition
Given that half the cookies in NYC seem to be baked below Union Sq, good luck!
I have no idea if it's the BEST, but you have to include Insomnia Cookies.
This bastion of cookies for the NYU crowd (and anyone else in a 3 mile radius), are delectable. And (I think) it's the only purveyor that does nothing BUT cookies. Whenever I brought them into work, it caused a scene like the bridal gown sale at Filene's.
Ed Levine's Serious Diet, Week 94: Too Many Chocolate Chip Cookie Taste Tests

Ed Levine's Serious Diet, Week 94: Too Many Chocolate Chip Cookie Taste Tests
I agree with betteirene--it's darn cold outside and all I want to do is crawl in bed with a huge bowl of mashed potatoes...fie on the winter!
And hey, how do you NOT gain weight tasting cookies all week? Jeez!
2 pounds is nothing...you've come so far, and one week can't take that away.
Cook the Book: 'Simple Fresh Southern'
My moms - potatoes, summer savory and crushed crackers, also includes tons of butter and a few onions - I miss stuffing since it started killing people :(
Ed Levine's Serious Diet, Week 94: Too Many Chocolate Chip Cookie Taste Tests
Ed - "get right back on the diet horse"....the word diet worries me. I am under the belief that the only way you can master the weight thing is to not think in terms of diet. Diet implies restrictions and bad stuff. I don't like the word "lifestyle change", either, though. I am sure you will be back down those few pounds soon...but you may want to rethink your use of the word diet...just a thought. :-)
