Weekend Cook and Tell: You Say Potato

India has a range of cuisines as diverse as its cultures which can be best seen through the amazing array of street foods. Eating on the street is a way of life for Indians. Street vendors hawk a variety of freshly cooked food to hungry passers-by at all times of the day and the mouth watering sight and smell of crispy hot samosas, aloo tikkis, flaky khasta kaschoris, and sweets surrounds you at all times.

While growing up this treat was narrowed down to Monday’s since our father fasted that day. Every Monday, lunch at our home consisted of some type of street food. My favorite of course was Potato Patties with Chick Peas and Bhature(Indian Flaky Bread). One tradition which I have carried into my own kitchen and shared with the family. I serve it with Tomato Ketchup and Cilantro Chutney – sweet and savory in each bite. Details - http://theprimlanikitchen.blogspot.com/2011/08/childhood-memories.html

Care to introduce yourself?

I have not had the luxury of studying at a culinary school nor am I a literal writer by any means. All I have is my passion and obesseion for everything that I choose to eat. Certainly, no Andrew Zimmerman or Anthony Bourdain however, I will travel any lengths and taste just about anything cooked or raw to please my palate. And the same value is instilled in our home with the kids too. My husband and son of course are the adventurous souls in the house. My courage is limited to my kitchen. Where I will try any recipe no matter how daunting it may seem.

It is my personal experience that food doesn't have to look or smell good to taste good. Most of us don't have professional culinary skills nor do we have a sleuth of staff waiting to present our dish as not only food but 'edible art'.

All I am is a mere mortal who has honed my cooking skills over a period of time and touch all the dishes which come out of my kitchen with abundance of love and tenderness. With encouragement and support from my friends and family I have decided to humbly share my adventures in the cooking arena with a wider audience. Stepping out of my comfort zone, and now am sharing it with everyone who shares similar passion for food as me.

About: My passionate obsession for food has turned me into a Self Taught Cook, Flogger, and Food Critic who more often than not meets my critics expectations.
