What's the Best Mexican Food Town in the U.S.?
Houston for sure - the best of all worlds of Mexican cuisine. San Antonio is fantastic as well, but with far fewer options (they're a strong second).
Throwdown: Chick-fil-A vs. McDonald's Southern Style Chicken
Don't forget that CFA also offers the wheat bun option - yum. Plus, the customer service is exponentially better than McD's in my experiences.

The Perfect Grilled Cheese Sandwich
@wunami: My style is to butter BOTH sides of both slices of bread - makes it extra good. Most people I know only butter the outside of the bread though.
Another tip - don't try to be healthy and use Smart Balance or other type of 'butter substance'. That stuff will never brown and just gets the bread soggy.

This one is an absolute no brainer. I am a software programmer and fortunate enough to work for a company that allows me to work from home, I try my best to make a point of living in a different city every year, I pack light and go. I've gone from southern cali, mid-west to the east coast and NOTHING compares to the mexican food in San Diego! Travel just 60 miles up the coast to Los Angeles and the difference is night and day, doesn't even deserve to be mentioned in the same category. San Diego is on the border of Mexico, and the mexican food gets exponentially worse the farther you get from it. Ask anyone who has actually tried mexican food in mulitple cities, I will guarantee the same response, San Diego hands down. Anyone who calls them nachos instead of carne asada chips, or taquitos instead of rolled tacos can automatically be discredited in this discussion. Those of you who have lived in San Diego will know what I mean.
Throwdown: Chick-fil-A vs. McDonald's Southern Style Chicken
it would have to be hands down to chick fil a. take into consideration the quality of their food as well as price point, flavor and texture. i've had both. i was Extremely disappointed with mcdonalds (as always really). i'm not one for take out and fast food however knowing that chick fil a hand batters each breast, fresh (Actually Fresh!) is a winner. i worked at a mcdonalds - it makes no sense how they are comparable - to me its a sad sad copy cat. oh, PS...mcdonald's "southern style" chicken on a biscuit is also a joke.
Throwdown: Chick-fil-A vs. McDonald's Southern Style Chicken
I really hate pickles on a chicken sandwich period, no matter who makes it! I always pick them off!
Throwdown: Chick-fil-A vs. McDonald's Southern Style Chicken
Chick-Fil-A definitely has the better sandwich but McDonald's is not a bad second if you can't get to CFA! McDonald's is open later and on Sundays!
The Perfect Grilled Cheese Sandwich
add one more peice of cheese and some crispy bacon and youre set to go.
The Perfect Grilled Cheese Sandwich
My husband says I make the best grilled cheese sandwiches. You know my secret?? Parmesan cheese sprinkled on the buttered slices before they go into the pan. Just sprinkle then pat down with a knife. Creates a lovely cheese texture on the tops and bottoms of the sandwiches. Try it!

Good grief, anyone who says that San Antonio has bad Mexican food and is "touristy" clearly didn't stagger far enough from the Riverwalk to learn anything about this city and its cuisine. People who actually *live* here don't go near the tourist areas, unless they have no choice.
And to say that LA *isn't* touristy but still has good Mexican food is just laughable. I didn't find one decent restaurant in all of California when I lived there. The food was horrible, and the service abominable.
When you get away from the downtown area of San Antonio, that's when you find out just how awesome the Mexican food is here. There are dozens of wonderful mom-and pop joints tucked into unexpected places all over San Antonio. You just have to know how to look.
And if you want the best Mexican food, anywhere, Texas's Lower Rio Grande Valley is the place to go. Until you've had seso or eyeball soup or panchos, until you can lay out the perfect botana platter, you don't know jack about authentic MX food.
The Perfect Grilled Cheese Sandwich
My boyfriend makes his grill cheese w/italian bread. After grilling it he sprinkles powdered sugar on it. He recently made it for me and i loved it!

There is a place a bit north of Santa Fe called Chimayo. This is where the world famous Chimayo chiles come from. The place to eat there is Rancho de Chimayo--THE BEST for Mexican! Amazing atmosphere, service and food. Don't miss it.

Tucson, Arizona. Glad to see so many giving love to The Old Pueblo.
1) Sonoran Hot Dogs (El Guero Canelo/BK's) - bacon wrapped hot dogs with beans, onions, mustard, mayo, tomatoes, your choice of salsas, cheese and grilled peppers/green onions on a soft bolillo roll. $2.29, $1.75 on Wednesdays.
2) 24 hour drive through taquerias. Under $4 for a burrito? At 3am?
3) Really good sit down Mexican restaurants. Mi Nidito. Love the nopales simmered in red chile sauce with freshly made flour tortillas.
4) Even the U of A's Mexican place, Cafe Sonora, has decent mole and chimichangas. If a damn college cafeteria can provide good Mexican food, there should be no argument.
I rest my case.
The Perfect Grilled Cheese Sandwich
Use Jarlsberg. It's heaven. Especially with a Roma tomato and red onion.

Los Angeles obviously. It's not just about good mexican, but the diversity of mexican cuisine that LA has very few weaknesses in. Then, I'd give Texas second place and Chicago third with SF a close 4th.
Throwdown: Chick-fil-A vs. McDonald's Southern Style Chicken
As a person who's been eating both McDonalds and Chick-Fil-A my entire life, the winner hands-down is Chick-Fil-A. There is no other fast food chain I can think of that has great customer service, fresh food, and amazing taste. Chick-Fil-A takes a fresh boneless breast of chicken (on site), seasons it to perfection, breads it, and finally pressure cooks it in 100%peanut oil. On the other hand, McDonalds has pre-breaded frozen chunks of meat arrive on a truck in bulk and throws it into a common deep fryer (which many other things are cooked in).
I was pretty shocked when I heard a commericial for the McDonalds version where a female remarks "I'd like to find the man who found this chicken and shake his hand". The man is Truett Cathy, my friend. The founder of Chick-Fil-A.
To me, the decision is simple.
Throwdown: Chick-fil-A vs. McDonald's Southern Style Chicken
It is healthier. I remember my store quite a few months back having a health sheet up and it was ranked first with the healthiest sandwiches and salads. My other job KFC was ranked second.
Throwdown: Chick-fil-A vs. McDonald's Southern Style Chicken
Whoever said that CFA marinates their CFA sandwiches in pickle juice then you're wrong. I work at a chick-fil-a here in Cincinnati Ohio and I've worked in the back a lot of times and they have never marinated them in pickle juice. I think Mcd's does that b/c the last sandwich I had without the pickles tasted just like pickles only and the last few sandwiches I've had from there were all bland.

In Nashville the taco trucks are more authentic, and better then most sit down Mexican restaurants. This town is a total fail for Mexican food.
Throwdown: Chick-fil-A vs. McDonald's Southern Style Chicken
No comparison between the taste.
Chick-Fil-A uses a better breast of chicken, which is bigger, more flavor, and some added crispyness.
Good effort by McDonald's, though. They should add american cheese and bacon and then you'll have a sandwich.
Throwdown: Chick-fil-A vs. McDonald's Southern Style Chicken
Don't forget about differences is service and cleanliness.
Chick fil a has much better service in general. There are a few bad stores for chick fil a compared to a few good stores by McDonalds. You also don't feel like you're going to get a disease in the bathrooms. The sweet tea at Chick-Fil-A is always fresh and the same everywhere.
Overall, unless its Sunday, go to Chick-fil-a. Even if its 30 miles farther than McDonalds.
Throwdown: Chick-fil-A vs. McDonald's Southern Style Chicken
I love Chicken, I love Both
Throwdown: Chick-fil-A vs. McDonald's Southern Style Chicken
I've eaten the sandwich for Breakfast & lunch at McDonald's. It is tasty, if you like the flavor of pickle juice. It was very consistent in browning & texture, but I will tell you I don't like condiments & the one thing I didn't like was the taste of PICKLES!!!
Today, my dad took my daughter to McDonald's, not one close to me & raved about this sandwich. They ordered them to be made to order. When my daughter got it, she said it tasted like it had something on it. My dad looked it over & wasn't happy that she was complaining, it had nothing on it. She told me when she got home it tasted like pickles. I thought maybe they prepped it with pickles & pulled them off when they made one ordered without condiments. Like I said, the breakfast one tasted like the juice as well. I decided to blog & this site came up when I mentioned pickle juice. Does anyone work at McD's that can confirm this. It actually really caused an argument.

I agree with fivrforfun. I live in Bend and the Mexican food at Pepe's rocks. My friend Marcos has a restaurant called La Rosa that is also a locals favorite.
Some really awesome burritos de carne asada can be found at El Grullense in Salem OR. In fact when I'm there I get a cooler and ice and load up before driving home... yes, that good!
The Perfect Grilled Cheese Sandwich
Aw, man! I totally need to learn how to deglaze plans! In Poland we're too lazy to butter four sides of bread, so we just make grzanki - an open faced grilled cheese toasted in the oven, then slathered with mayonnaise (ew) and ketchup (double ew). American grilled cheese is WAY better. Especially with Sriracha.
The Perfect Grilled Cheese Sandwich
Sigh... why does no one get the true secret to a perfect grilled cheese sandwich? The trick is this. Butter ALL FOUR SIDES of two pieces of bread. Then put the two pieces of bread in the pan until the pan-sides are crisp.
Then, flip both slices of bread over and put the cheese on top of one of the slices THAT WAS JUST COOKED. Then put the OTHER cooked side on top of the cheese. Cook sandwich as you normally would.
By putting the cheese between two HOT sides of bread instead of between cold sides, the cheese is perfectly melted by the time the bread is crisp on the outside.
Two advantages -- you don't have to wait so long or constantly check to see if you are burning the bread AND you get even more of the delicious crispy crunch, which is the true joy of a grilled cheese sandwich.

Houston? What you have there is Tex-Mex. Chicago? I think not. I have lived in both cities. San Diego, CA which is 15 miles north of the Mexican border by far, has the best Mexican in the US. Old Town is dedicated to offering you one Mexican restaurant after another in addition to all the other Mexican restaurants and taco stands located around the city. Real Mexican food is found there.
Throwdown: Chick-fil-A vs. McDonald's Southern Style Chicken
Just thought of something else.... I bet CFA's Sandwichs are less fats then mcdonalds, im not sure on that one, i forgot how many calories and fat is in a CFA but know that its really not to bad considering its fried and its fast food.
I just noticed all my spelling errors on those comments, i spelled sandwich wrong like 100 times. sorry
