OK, I guess I can understand going to a burger spot for V-day instead of something overblown. Still, If my man is going to take me to a burger spot he can do a little better than WC. There's a lot of hip new burger places (BLT Burger, Zen Burger, etc.) that have been written up here and on JuliB.com which might be ok.

Starbucks Discontinues Breakfast Sandwiches

I saw on JuliB.com that Starbucks is now selling liqueurs.... maybe they decided there's a bigger market for liquor than for breakfast sandwiches.

It seems like hamburgers are really jumping class recently. Just a few years ago, the term "upscale hamburger chain" would have sounded bizarre. These days, even super hip sites like JuliB.com cover hamburger spots (BLT Burger, Zen Burger, etc.)

The Language of 'Local'

I think it's fantastic how quickly language evolves these days. I had never heard the word 'locavore' until I stumbled upon it ina JuliB.com restaurant review a little while back... now I see it popping up all over the blogosphere.

Hmm, I just had one the other day. Looks like they're a little slow on the discontinue. I agree that I enjoyed having a breakfast option other than a sugary pastry or overpriced fruit.

@Lauren: Awesome post. Looks like you had a great VDay. I think my own valentine would have dumped me if I tried to drag her to Whitey's.

@rachel8826: There was a White Castle ad campaign that showed people going to extremes with Whitey's sliders or in an attempt to obtain them. The tagline of that campaign was "Yep, s/he's one of us." I guess you're just not "one of us" when it comes to the Castle. I know there are some diehards out there who'd choo-choo choose WC over BLT, Zen, etc., me included! ;)

I agree with Texas Blues...I've been to Mesa Grill in NYC and Caesars...both were mediocre at best. However the cactus margaritas are sick. Wasn't there a posting about Rachel Ray starting a burger joint as well? Ugh...just give me a Mana burger any day....or Shake Shack. I've had some high end burgers and they never compare.

I'm sorry but I can't get on Bobby's burger train. I have been to his joint in Caesars Palace and it was much ado about nada. The service was slow and marginal at best, even on a Sunday night. The place was overly loud and our food was cold when it arrived. Upon tasting, we discovered, the chefs haven't discovered the new thing in spices called....salt!!! Bland with a capital BLAH. We were unthrilled. Thing is, it wasn't just one thing...it was everything! Now he wants to launch into that king of American foods...the burger...how many Cordon Bleu grads will it take to f#*k that up?
Cheers, TB.

The Language of 'Local'

I kinda don't like "locavore," but that's just me. I take to new words slowly. I do see the value in using "local" in the manner described above and on Language Log. In that "buy locally" would appear to apply only to the transaction taking place, not the origin of the product.
