i eat meat but i seriously love mock duck and the other asian fake meats in a can. salty msg goodness. i like sautee/braising it with some kale for an lazy meal. not healthy but once in a while.

also, i got really excited about this vegan italian place here in portland but then i got there and menu was cashew cream this and seitan that. it was really well prepared and delicious but i wish it had just been a showcase for all the cheese free, meat free dishes that you get very easily in italy.

just to second theotherworldly, it's "ma yi shang shu". shui means, amongst other things, water.

please change it.

we got a cinnamon bun and a brownie checking that it had no nuts as my boyfriend is allergic. after we walked out we noticed the tiny print that said no suitable for nutallergics. we went back to exchange it for something and she pulled out the penguin snack cakes and told us to take 2--even though they were 2 each and the brownie was 3.

my boyfriend's house has recently experienced a spate of refrigerators lately which resulted in 2 new fridges in two weeks. This time around i was on hand to help clean it out and i almost cried throwing out all the condiments! i've never really even thought about the possibility that my refrigerator might stop working.

i loved grace tavern when i used to live in phila. the food and drinks are terrific, except for the cajun blackened string beans which i found too smokey.

one of my favorite restaurants will tweet when there's only a few left of a particular item or that the happy hour crowd has cleared out. twitter is all about realtime and nothing is more effective when you're deciding where to go for dinner.

when i was in grad school, i used to come home, turn on the food network and veg for an hour before fixing dinner and getting back to work. it's the perfect wind down tv.

i did not know that this was a german chain! i went to one in dc a few years ago and remembered it being surprisingly alright. the whole swipe card instead of cash thing was weird but it all makes sense now.

i usually tip +/-20%-25% because i'm lazy and usually too full to do math.
