Poll: How Picky Are You About Coffee?

Fittingly for New York, even the poll options are weak.

The Bay Area's Best Fried Chicken Sandwich

I live a few blocks from Betty's. And oh, it is that good.

The World's Best Restaurateur Just Passed Away

I took my wife there once, and the sommelier suggested a bottle of wine that we wound up loving. I wrote to them months after to ask what the bottle was since I wanted to get one for our anniversary. Vrinat wrote back a long email telling me exactly what it had been, where it could be bought in France, the vineyard's phone number, and that it should be available "in any country" which cracked me up -- "even yours" was the subtext, I thought. :) It was such a nice note, talking about how they would love to see us again when next we were in Paris, and hoping the anniversary was great, etc. It blew me away.

We've been other nice places around the world, but I've never been to a restaurant that took the job of treating us like royalty, and treating all of our requests as their absolute pleasure to fulfill, with such apparent sincerity as Taillevent. It will always be one of my favorite memories and one of the places I most want to visit again as a result.
