There are two places in LA that do fabulour things with Burrata. Angeli Cafe on Melrose has an incredible Burrata and Beet salad appetizer, while Mario Batali´s Mozza on Melrose does a Burrata and Zucchini flower pizza. Both are fantastic.

McDonald's Filet-O-Fish: Yea or Nay?

having never tried a fillet of fish sandwich, i think the sandwich sounds mostly great save for one thing, ready for it (raphael), THE CHEESE! I'm all down with squishy bun, deep fried fish and tartar sauce. In fact, there are very few things in this world i am more down with than that.... but.... CHEESE?? fish and cheese is, in my opinion, a truly vile combination, though having never tried the sandwich in question and given that mcdonalds foodstuffs rarely interact with each other as they would in the real world-- i will withhold judgement. though please, mcdonalds employee taking my order--hold the cheese.

Is Panettone the New Fruitcake?

As a nice jewish boy, my introduction to panettone came by way of my italian ex-girlfriend. My verdict? as an ardent fruitcake hater, and christmas scrooge, i think panettone is all right. definitely edible, possibly tasty, and a great last resort dessert. i've even been tempted to pick one up at trader joes several times in the last few weeks. that said, i really find it to be fairly mediocre, if only because of my disdaine for the fruity bits that are never particularly delicious. the brioche is always delectable, and i would really like to try a pandoro, but can never seem to get my hands on it.

Hannah, I've come late to SE and your writing, but have enjoyed it. I'll miss it, and I hope you will take up your blogging gift again soon. Looking forward to learning what group you're with. If they operate in the MidWest we will give any Chicago operations a try.

Lived in Santa Barbara for six years - some time ago - and SoCal is an entirely different world. Hope you like it. It may be a little harder to live there since the state iwent broke.

How bittersweet but welcome to LA & congrats on landing the gig! Will be seeing a "Managed" here on SE soon?

Anyhow, hopefully we'll have a chance to meet (and eat, and drink) when you're here!

Well done, Hannah. Good to hear that you're moving in the direction that you'd like to go. I've read your blog for about a year now, through Serious Eats, and it's always been one of the features I look forward to.

Also, six months ago, one of my very good friends moved to LA to do a restaurant management program that sounds suspiciously similar to the one you've described. She's loving it and all the opportunities that come with it. Maybe I'll tell her to look out for you...

Good luck with everything!

@foodie09: Does Trader Joe's really carry burrata? Does anyone know if the Trader Joe's in Manhattan does? If so, my week has just been made.

Bar Pitti--NYC, was the first place I ever had burrata(shared by a table mate--I didn't even know her) and I couldn't stopped salivating about it. The only place around here to get it, is Trader Joes, and it is mighty good. I look forward to trying it in Italy someday. I also have weekly cravings for it. YUM!

Great article! Now I have the answer to my question on exactly how these globes of goodness are made!

McDonald's Filet-O-Fish: Yea or Nay?

cheap and delicious - it's a classic. during the mad-cow scare, this was the only sandwich my gf allowed me to eat from the mcd's and i learned to love it. and believe me people, you should worry more about where they get their dairy and poultry than worry about the fish. lastly, i love the tartar sauce overload, once i take it out of the box, i smear half of it on my box and use it as dipping sauce for my golden delicious potato stix. =)

burrata is one of my favorite cheese....you can have them in Bar Pitti and Peasant here in NYC. Also, chelse market sells them and they are fantastic.

Holy jebus, I Iove burrata. I don't know why I didn't look at it as "cheese in a cheese pouch" before.

McDonald's Filet-O-Fish: Yea or Nay?

BTW after watching the show I went to a wholesale distributor that I have bought raw breaded cod "squares" from in the past... I paid $40.00 for
24 - 4oz portions... if my math serves me right, that is $1.60 per portion!!!
I think I'll just buy mine @ McD's

McDonald's Filet-O-Fish: Yea or Nay?

Actually I was watching a show the other day that highlighted McDonald's own fishing vessels in which the COD are prepared and flash frozen right on the ship... employing many workers who work 12 hour shifts until the cargo is full and then back to port to offload... already prepared and packaged Filet 'O Fish.

Is Panettone the New Fruitcake?

I'm Italian and we always had panettone for the holidays. I didn't like it as a kid, but then tried it again as an adult and now I love it. We like to have it in the moring with coffee.. and of course it's always there on the table when we toast the new year with Asti. Oh we have it for Christmas too, along with the rest of the desserts. For prolonged freshness, make sure you keep it sealed in the plastic bag that it comes in after you open it. Merry Christmas.

McDonald's Filet-O-Fish: Yea or Nay?

I've always liked this sandwich...and that goes back about 40 years...today I order it slightly healthier w/o the cheese, request light sauce and ask them to add lettuce, tomato and pickle. It is a little confusing for most of the cashiers at first, but most of the time I receive what I requested...just wish the bun was whole grain or a bit healthier in other ways. I generally only eat at McD's when taking a car trip but it is something consistent to count on.

Been in Colorado since '91, miss the Millridge Inn on Long Island and the Sirloin Tips in sauce. Don't need a knife...bit size morsels of tenderness!
