Irving, TX: Old-fashioned Burgers Still Hit the Spot at Griff's
I know Wichita HAD a Griff's (think it might have been in the Harry and Oliver area and maybe another at Pawnee and Broadway) because I remember the sign, but they're long gone now. I see on the innernet that their buildings were built by the Valentine Diner company here in Wichita, too.
Probably not much of a chance to see a return to Wichita, though.
Burger Thing: Cheeseburger in Lucite
What a waste of lucite.
Poll: Olives - Way or No Way?
My favorite topping has always been pepperoni and black olive (but what do I know, I prefer canned mushrooms over fresh.)

Chain Reaction: P'Zones Suck Even More Than You'd Imagine
I saw that the P'Zone was being promoted by our neighborhood Hut, but knew better than to give it another chance. Pizza Hut hasn't made a decent pie since the long-gone Priazzo (sp?) double-layed pizza.

Cook the Book: 'The Unofficial Harry Potter Cookbook'
I could list a hundred different foods, from a hundred different books, but for full-on culinary pleasure, nothing beats Templeton the rat's full-on carnival food orgy in "Charlotte's Web"...with second place going to "Square Candies That Look 'Round" in "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory".
Tempuroni. Yes, That's Tempura + Pepperoni
what about...thin slices of italian sausage? Thin slices of uncooked bratwurst? Thin slices of blood sausage...er, nevermind.
Hard Taco Shells: Yea or Nay?
We grew up frying the corn or flour shells flat and eating them as beef tostadas. When we do tacos at home now, for my daughters I generally spread a flour shell with beans and wrap it around a crunchy taco, but I've never really had a problem eating crunchy corn tacos. Of course, we have some colorful plastic taco holders to keep them standing up on the plate between bites. But we probably eat tacos a couple times a week, so we're probably not "normal".
The $3 Big Mac (sort of) mini meal
I keep meaning to do this, but my wife hates McD's, so it'll have to be when I get rid of her (to visit her sister...) I don't THINK they charge extra for Mac sauce around here, but I'd pay a little extra just for variety's sake.
Father's Day Giveaway: Win a Two-Pound Cowboy Chop
flatiron, just a smidge past rare, with minimal seasoning, grilled over mesquite...but under NO circumstances, round steak. How do they even call that steak?
2011 Samuel Adams Utopias: Beer Worth $150?
I've tried Millenium and Utopias at the local beer festival (in a tiny little shot cup), and I respected the effort, but to me beer is beer and 27% flat alcohol beverages are not beer.
I've tasted some $75+/bottle wines at wine festivals and really liked them, but have never justified the expense of actually purchasing one - mostly afraid of dropping it or opening it and finding it "corked".
Drinking the Bottom Shelf: Cheap Light Beer
I can name two that are worse than those tested: Old Milwaukee Light and Meister Brau Light (which mercifully is no longer being produced, so far as I know). I did have a sixer of Nattys this last weekend, and although it tasted a little "canny" and rice-y like most AB products, it wasn't totally unpleasant. The weather gets hot, I shift over to the lighter-weight beers (although I try to aim for "mid-shelf" beers...)
Burger King Revamping Menu and Identity
They need a total menu overhaul for me to ever eat there, because the last few times I've had something there, it resulted in a uncomfortable gurgling gastric stew of epic proportions. Not sure if it's the mayo, the meat-binding chemicals or the toxic smoke flavorings, but it wasn't a good experience.
I used to love drinking a couple pitchers of beer and then having the original chicken sandwich and a Mountain Dew to ward off hangovers, but I'm sure they've screwed that sandwich up, too.
Mostly, I just stick to real burgers prepared by real people on a real grill, with a side of real fries.
D. Trump Offers Worst Excuse Ever for Using a Fork to Eat Pizza
Never trust a prospective politician who's afraid of normal food items. I can accept not eating the bones/edge of the pizza, I can accept picking off a topping that displeases your sensitive palate, but drop the fork and eat like a grown-up.
AHT Giveaway: Case of Pat LaFrieda Burgers
When I started looking forward to summertime because that's when we'd go over to Grandpa's for charcoal-grilled hamburgers with grill-toasted buns and fresh home-grown tomato slices served on a Western Ware steel platter that I now own. Thick, juicy and crispy beef patties, tomato juice running down my arms, the smell of the bun...ah, the smell of the bun...
Snapshots from South Korea: Prepackaged Burger for 1000 Won
So at least now we know that Korea is ahead of us in the "shelf-stable-hamburger-like-substance-sandwich" race. We must of course counter with the kimchi-stuffed candy bar...
Entertainment Coupon Books?
I try to use all that I can (and try out some places I wouldn't necessarily eat at without a coupon), and then with a month left, I turn it over to my family and then my co-workers and give them all a chance at the remainders.
I always tip on the full amount, it's not the waiter's fault I'm using a coupon, it's the owner's fault.
If you've ever worked at a chain restaurant/ fast food place...
I worked several summers in fast food, some of my favorites:
McDonalds -
Quarter pounders with mayo (from the chicken sandwiches), QPs with barbecue sauce (from the nuggets) and pickles, chicken sandwich with tartar sauce, and of course fries dipped in tartar sauce.
Pizza Hut -- when they used to have sandwiches, I used to take a hoagie bun, load it up with pepperoni and italian sausage, shredded mozz and pizza sauce, and send it through the conveyor oven.
Dairy Queen -- we had chocolate soft-serve for the ice-cream cakes, and you could get a chocolate soft-serve cone on Mondays and Tuesdays when they made the cakes for the week, but I'd make a hot fudge malt with chocolate soft serve...epic! And when I was in the grill area, there were all sorts of weird permuations of double cheeseburgers with onion rings and mayo, bbq beef pickles and double cheese on the cooktop, deep-fried hot dogs with chili and fried onions...glad I got out while I still had a waistline.
Hangover Helper: Creamed Chipped Beef on Toast at Melrose Diner, Philadelphia
I grew up on "chipped beef on toast", and make it for my daughters and me sometimes for breakfast. Although by the time I'm done "altering the recipe" (shredded cheese whisked in, shot of tabasco and worcestershire sauce, a couple random shakes from the spice cabinet) it's not officially S.O.S., but it does the job.
The United States of Pizza: Kansas
For just a second, I was upset that in all of Wichita, Adam could only come up with Il Vicino, and then I realized that overall, Wichita is a crap town for pizza. Maybe Pizza Hut ruined it for everyone. Locally-based Knolla's has always been hit-or-miss for me, and if there are any great pizza places in Wichita proper, I know not of them, which is why I make my own slow-rise crust, crank the oven above 500, and make my own.
Now if you ever decide to do the United States of Mediterranean/Middle-Eastern food or United States of pho, we're your city.
She Said: Winstead's
Just got back from KC this weekend, and like every family trip up I-35, we stopped at Winsteads (I435 & Roe location). Still great onion rings, still great grilled onions (not chopped and grilled, it's a WHOLE SLICE of onion grilled to take some of the bite away, but not the crunch). They didn't hear me order cheese, but the absence of cheese accentuated the pure naked quality of a well-cooked burger. And one of these days, I swear, I'm going to order their fried egg sandwich, just to cross that one off my list.
Recipe: Pimento Cheese Burgers
Oh, man, I was going to make White Castle clones for my family this weekend, but now I may have to make these, instead. Maybe it'll be an all-burger weekend.
Recipe: Wite Kastle Klones
I'm wondering if in place of the pureed baby beef food, if you just put a 1/4 cup of the ground chuck in a processor with the broth and blended it down and added it to the rest of the chuck. Not that I'm afraid of baby food, which has to be pretty safe if you're feeding it to babies, but it might save some money and you don't have to explain to people snooping in your cabinets why you have baby food but no babies.
And although I live in Wichita, where White Castle started, all I've ever had the opportunity to eat is the frozen ones in the supermarket. I think I'll make a batch of these clones for my family this week.
