I was brought up in a family where the meals we very important ... a time when everybody got together and enjoyed eating ... this is where I got the bug .. I found having a good meal which everybody enjoyed the highlight of the day and as such use it in my life to reconnect with the family and wind down after a hard day at work ... as such eating and food is a very important part of my life ... how and why did you become a foodie .. ???
In my discussions with friends I have found foodies want to please others as much as they want to please themselves. There seems to be an significant amount of self-generated pressure on these people to produce the perfect meal and to maintain their reputations as "foodies". They often go to extremes by buying the best ingredients and putting forth great amounts of time and effort to ensure this happens
Do you put lots of pressure on yourself to put together the perfect meal for your family or friends?

ever tried growing your own food? was it a success or not? I am thinking of starting a co-op greenhouse what do you think? ... it really worries me where my food come from especially fruit and veg how do you tell if retailers are telling you the truth about it being organic, pesticide free or farm reared.. it's all confusing to me.
Is paying the extra price really worth what you get ??
Do you prefer supermarkets for their prices and convenience or small specialist local shops for their freshness and the knowledge of knowing where the produce comes from ??

Mine is a latte ... its warm friendly, you can curl your hands around the mug and looking at the world through a foamy layer is always fun.. caffeine never did anybody any harm did it !!
the dictionary says " its a connoisseur of good food and drink" does it mean eating gourmet food or cooking gourmet food ?

nothing better for me ... than a seller thats interested in the food they are showing you, I have a great cheese place i go to, every time I go ... would you like to try some? ... have you tried this ?...this compliments that? perhaps I am a sucker at heart .. but so what for me its all part of the richness of life .. it is so boring gong into another supermarket ... they are all the same ..

IMO, gourmet means that the cook takes care to select the absolutely freshest and best quality ingredients available that day and prepares them in a thoughtful way that highlights the perfection.
Gourmet doesn't have to be so overwrought as the top restaurants (French Laundry, Per Se, El Bulli, etc.) seem to think most times. That kind of dining has an ADD feature to it that is like a roller coaster for tastebuds. Fun, but you probably don't want to do that every day.
I hate the words gourmet, foodie and chowhound. I just like to eat well, very well, from all cultures at all price points.
When I say the word "gourmet" I usually make the double quote fingers with it. Compared to the foods that were available when my mom was cooking, everything could be considered "gourmet" these days.
I'm with JerzeeTomato on this one, "gourmet" has totally lost its meaning. You can say "gourmet shoes" and people will not raise an eyebrow.
Whenever I hear the word "gourmet", I know what will follow will be pretentious, and generally ignorant, twaddle.
