Serious Eats Finds New York's Best Bagel
I agree. Bagel Hole is the best NYC bagel today. However, I must admit that the old Columbia Bagels (good enough to be 'imported' by Zabars, albeit in the store well after their peak of perfection) were the best NYC bagels.
Eisenberg's Sandwich Shop: Good But Not Great
Going to Eisenberg's for a burger is like going to Peter Luger's for the fish. Not the point of the experience. But thanks anyway.
Serious Eats City Guide: Los Angeles
LA is a deceptively great burger town. Besides Pie & Burger and Fathers Office, another great local place is Apple Pan.
Agree that Chinois on Main, while a good restaurant, should not show up on any Best Chinese in LA.
Also disappointing that the set format (Best pizza, best chinese, etc.) means that you don't cover LA's specialties -- Mexican, sushi (both high-end and low-end) and local classics such as Langers (pastrami is better than Katz's) and Phillipe's (inventor of the french dip)

I lived in NYC for 12 years - 10 in the West Village and 2 in Park Slope - and moved last year to Fairfield County.
In my experience:
- pizza places are a joke out here (and overall it is a culinary wasteland)
- the trek to New Haven with the wait (in line and for the food) are not worth it -- especially if you have kids below the age of 10 (my youngest is 5)
- Fat Cat is good -- sort of a poor man's Franny's
- Colony is a revelation -- their sausage and hot oil reminds me more of Chicago thin crust than anything in NYC (don't know where the Chef Boyardee analysis comes from -- the sausage in particular is high quality); Colony may be a top 5 restaurant in Fairfield Co., let alone pizza joint.
