Pat's Pizza: House-made Sausage and a Perfect Crust Make One Great Pizza

This was my Monday Night Football pizza a few years back. Ah, nostalgia!

John's Pizzeria in Jersey City

I'm a huge John's fan, so I was really excited when John's Jersey City opened a few months back. Sadly, I agree with Davey. This John's location doesn't touch the Village location. Jersey City residents should indeed head to La Rustique instead.

I had Lee's Tavern not too long ago. That is a tasty treat, for sure. Adding the other three to my list!

I had to check the URL to make sure I hadn't logged on to The Superficial by accident. Awesome.

I had Bianco while in Phoenix also. I don't see how anyone could have liked Grimaldi's better. To each his own, I guess.

I'm happy to read about pizza places - wherever they are. With that said, you should see if anyone from the Chicago PIzza Club is interested in writing for Slice.

I tried to add some photos of the pizza, but I guess photos aren't allowed in comments ... here's a link to my pizza set on flickr - which has photos of Grimaldi's in AZ:

Grimaldi's in Dallas–Fort Worth Area

Last week I ate at Patsy Grimaldi's in Scottsdale AZ which has the same ownership as the Dallas location. The pizza is definitely different than the Grimaldi's I have eaten in Hoboken (same owners as Brooklyn Bridge location), but it was still really quite good. The crust was thin and crispy and the overall taste reminded me more of Frank Pepe in New Haven than anything else.

Finally visited Lee's Tavern tonight. Good crispy thin crust bar pies. The White Clam pie rivaled Delorenzo's on Hamilton. Quintessential local blue collar joint. Great atmosphere. I kept expecting Ed Burns to walk thru the door and pony up to the bar with a couple of fireman buddies.

It a little pricy but truly the best thin crust I have had in Chicago.

And BTW, the rest of the staff was gracious and accomodating as well. Does anyone know if he puts heat lamps outside in the Winter? That could be a long fribggin' wait in the cold.

WTF!? Jay-Z and Beyoncé Visited Lucali's!

Forget Beyonce and Jay-Z, last night diners at Lucali's had the opportunity to witness the inaugral visit of Brooklyn native and pizza enthusiast extraordinaire Paulie Gee. That place is a treasure. Incredible atmosphere, delicious, slightly tangy pizza, a ham and five cheese calzone that was filled with just enough ingredients to balance out the perfectly crisp crust and a gracious and accomodating owner/pizzaiolo. I'm hooked.

That looks absolutely great. It does look like a midwest style pizza. Great.

I also have to agree with the other posters. I went there when they had the half prices pizzas for the grand opening. Pizza was way to thin and very cheap on the toppings. My extra cheese pie was a regular cheese pie anywhere else. So I gave it a second chance around the 4th of July. Boy was I disappointed. Pies where really small for the price and it was like $60 for a pizza with pepperoni and two eggplant parms. Will never go back! La Rustique is worth the $$$!!!! I cannot believe this place is incorporated with the Village location. That place is amazing!

Don't take the VN, it's 10$ if you're not a resident.

Seriously though, I'd love to see a Staten Island Slice review, despite my love-hate relationship with my home-semi-urban-wasteland.

Dear Slice: There's Other Pizza on Staten Island, You Know

I've been to Nunzio's...other than their clumps of cheese as opposed to the ordinary shredded cheese, it was very average. Joe & Pat's, thin but flavorless. J&P is much better reheated at home. Just a few weeks ago I went to Basille's. If Basille's is as good as Artichoke, then all the hype is just that. The complimentary breadsticks clearly outshines the pizza we waited for. Reheated, turned the crust into cardboard. Goodfella's (award winning pizzeria?) tries too hard to be creative. I threw away the leftovers and I hate wasting food. Denino's is by far the best out of all the shops I have hit up in Shaolin. I haven't tried the suggested pies above, but I will definitely make it a mission before the year is over.

Adam: My source on Staten Island happened to be in the office here today, so I ran these by him. He was negative on the Kingdom Cafe, saying their slices were a bit too thick and spongy. He offered Sal and Lloyd's, on Richmond Ave., as a reasonable alternative to Kingdom. Any feedback from other Slice readers?

Baha, I have lactose intolerance too. The key is to learn how to release your gas rather than let it sit in you. Sad to say, but I can fart on command. It allows me to avoid all the pain that used to get to me after drinking milk.

From Slice

Lactose and My Adios

I do have lactose intolerance, and it's a lot more painful and exhausting than just farting, believe me. If anyone read this actually does have lactose intolerance, Ganeden's Digestive Advantage for Lactose Intolerance (available just about everywhere) changed my life. I was always able to tolerate pizza, but now I can have egg creams! Sour cream! Cream cream! Oh, and by the way, you take it like a vitamin, One a day, and you're good.

I must admit you got me with that.

From Slice

Lactose and My Adios

Hey, I think that lactose intolerance causes you to fart before eating
the pizza, while standing in line for your slice. This could be an
advantage at a busy place by possibly thinning out the crowd.
You almost had me there, Adam. Nice try! I almost unsubscribed,
but decided to see what others had to say first. Great blog!
Stick around. Best Regards.

From Slice

Lactose and My Adios

Hah. Thanks for the clarification, Benlee. I didn't know that—since I don't really have lactose intolerance.
