The Indian Mangoes Have Landed at Patel Brothers

I am adding produce shopping to my list of things of things to do when I visit Chicago next month. Thanks!

How was your (wedding) food?

Around here, most wedding food reminds me of school cafeteria fare, but a good meal was a high priority for us when we got married last year, so we booked a favorite locally-owned restaurant for the night. The chefs put together two entrees for our 100-person reception: pan-seared pheasant breast with rosemary mashed potatoes, grilled leeks, sweet corn relish and yam puree for the meat-eaters and fried zucchini with spinach-leek salad and heirloom tomato orzo for the vegetarians. It was fabulous, and (shhhh) no more expensive than the nice reception/banquet halls in my area.

Our cake was kind of pricey, but it was worth an extra $1 or $2 a slice to have a moist, delicious cake made with real butter!

The Indian Mangoes Have Landed at Patel Brothers

I have bought a case of alphonsos from Patel Brothers in Schaumburg,IL over this weekend. I have to say I am very disappointed with the quality and size of the mangoes. So far all the mangoes have rotten spots inside. I dont know if my experience is an isolated one

Patel Bros in Queens has Mangos as of last week. $30 per case! 12 in a case. Got them anyway, pretty fantastic.

I don't really have any more info on these (mouthwatering deeelicious) mangoes, but when I read it the little voice in my head shouted "I LOVE PATEL BROTHERSSSSSS! MANGGGOOOOO SEASONNNN!"

Ya'll should go out and get yourself a case. A case. You'll go through surprisingly quickly.

If you live in Los Angeles, you can drive on down to Cerritos/Artesia and find them on Pioneer Blvd.

I'll have to check these out- fortunately, I live just minutes from the Patel Brothers store in Decatur. (And FYI, Georgians... any of the Indian restaurants in that immediate area are pretty damn good. Luqma has the best naan within the perimeter).

A day late but it can't be helped. Happy birthday! I've been reading via RSS for about a year now and only signed up recently. I thought SE was a lot older, which says a lot about quality of content! I'm looking forward to reading for several more years. :)

Thanks for all the good wishes and kind words, serious eaters. To celebrate our birthday we had pizza from Pizza Suprema, the first-rate pizzeria in our neighborhood. Instead of a cake we had the incredible ho hos from Bouchon Bakery that Erin wrote about on Serious Eats: New York. Pizza and ho hos, perfectly appropriate food for a 2 year-old's birthday party don't you think?. We wish all of you could have had a slice of pizza and a ho ho with us.
