ps loved your video for "oh no!" cake.

My favorite line is when the reporter asks her if she thinks anything will be "on the chopping block." "Oh you mean BESIDES the turkeys?"
Thanksgiving with a French Accent
My family is Spanish but my NYC-born Cuban-American aunt always makes Thanksgiving dinner so although there are some Spanish and Cuban touches (flan for dessert is a near-guarantee) the meal itself was always fairly traditional, turkey, stuffing, mash potatoes, candied yams, etc, etc.
When I spent a semester in Grenoble, France in college our program director arranged for an "American" restaurant ("O Brother," really just a hamburger joint but the only place that attempted Americana) to serve up a Thanksgiving meal for us. They tried, they really did, but the meal was unabashedly French, from the presentation to the tarte aux noix pretending to be be pecan pie. It was certainly the only day in my entire time in France that I actually wished I was eating American food.

I'm not sure if the NYC Yogurtland has it yet, but I was in LA last week and had their pumpkin pie fro-yo, it was delicious.

Despaña: A Superb Secret Sandwich Spot
not to be nitpicky, but... I am fairly certain that its "pata negra" (literally black leg), "Nocilla" (not norcia), torrijas (super-traditional for easter!) and the Spanish for the almond dessert is turrón.
sorry, I couldn't help myself, I come from a very Spanish family that really likes food.
Help me pack my lunch, please - a Super Challenge.
my friends and I found ourselves in a similar situation but were getting bored with making a big pot of something on sunday and eating it all week so now we've started to exchange lunches, like kids on the playground. We're still each just making the one pot of food, but we get to eat different things everyday.
Cook the Book: 'A Platter of Figs'
apple cider. Warm, mulled with spices as nights start to get colder its the best thing ever. And occassionally with a bit of rum to keep things interesting.
Cereal Quiz
18/20, a true testament to the power of advertising, I've never had about half of these cereals.

Arroz Dulce (Rice Pudding).
My dad is a good cook but usually my mom does most of the cooking in the house and my dad loves her cooking (its great). One dish they don't agree on is arroz dulce. Both my parents (and now I too) make Spanish-style rice pudding for holidays, family gatherings and occasionally on a whim but though the most health-conscious of the family Papi likes his rice pudding sweeter than the rest of us can tolerate, so sometimes he just makes his own, and uses a much more elaborate method than Mami and I.
Mami and I add the sugar, rice and milk maybe some orange zest, cook for 20 minutes, done. I'm not even sure what Papi's method entails, but the rice is cooked twice, and the milk is first flavored with orange peels and whole cinnamon sticks... Did I mention that Papi's motto is "If its worth doing, its worth doing right?"

ditto to Edy's Slow Churned and stonyfield farms fro-yo, I'm a fan of their Javalanche flavor. It was a staple pick-me-up in college.

Yogurtland pretty much kicks Red Mango's ass on all levels so it's not really comparable. Wish we had one here in Seattle.

This makes me very sad! I was looking forward to trying it the next time I stopped into Red Mango.
Help me pack my lunch, please - a Super Challenge.
THIS IS COMPLETELY VEGETARIAN. (Fish, though...)
Main Lunch:
How about a tuna sandwich?
Buy a thermos and have soup in winter.
Take a large piece of cold pizza.
Salad with veggies and low fat dressing.
Peanut butter and banana.
Tupperware, tupperware, tupperware!
One tupperware container, have some tuna salad or cheese. A ziplock, have some crackers.
I hope this helps your situation!

Thanks for stopping by cornrefiner, but I'll stick with grade B maple syrup, raw honey and good ol' white sugar in my homemade cookies every once in awhile. No HFCS for me.
Meet & Eat: Tressa Eaton, Serious Eats Intern
Audrae/cornrefiner: Um, high fructose corn syrup is not really that complicated-sounding and I think those of us with a television have seen the commercials, thanks.
Meet & Eat: Tressa Eaton, Serious Eats Intern
Shill!! someone at corn refiners association must have a HFCS google alert.
Meet & Eat: Tressa Eaton, Serious Eats Intern
High fructose corn syrup may have a complicated-sounding name, but it’s simply a kind of corn sugar that is nutritionally the same as table sugar.
High fructose corn syrup is not sweeter than sugar; and high fructose corn syrup, sugar and honey all contain the same number of calories (four calories per gram).
Like table sugar and honey, high fructose corn syrup contains no artificial or synthetic ingredients or color additives.
Consumers can see the latest research and learn more about high fructose corn syrup at www.SweetSurprise.com.

In Videos: Sarah Palin Interview with Turkey Slaughter in Background
Turkey pardoning is a silly tradition, annually undertaken around Thanksgiving every year by the President and now apparently by governors as well.
My take on this is that MSNBC was highlighting the fact that Governor Palin doesn't realize how ridiculous it is to take part in a lighthearted, whimsical turkey pardon while standing in front of the turkey slaughter. I eat turkey. I'm not offended by the slaughter but I am shaking my head that a light bulb didn't go off in Palin's bespectacled head where she realized that a turkey pardon and turkey slaughter in the same frame just doesn't jibe.

"This may sound stupid, but... Why do turkeys need to be pardoned???"
----------------
Maybe they've been bad turkeys.
Bad Turkeys. BAD... now off with your heads and into the oven.
In Videos: Sarah Palin Interview with Turkey Slaughter in Background
This may sound stupid, but... Why do turkeys need to be pardoned??? And why is it news, much less breaking news (a term never used for press events)?
I seriously dislike her, but I can't really see where she messed up here. Yeah, it's a little gruesome - I for one don't want to see turkeys killed, that's why I'm veg - but I agree with the SE gang on this one. No harm, no foul. (Notice how I avoided the pun there.)

@Mares:
"According to MSNBC, a photographer asked Governor Palin if she wanted to find a different location to shoot, but McCain's former running mate simply said, 'No worries.' It isn't clear, however, if Palin - an avid hunter - was aware that the nasty business was actually being caught on camera." [NY Daily News]

I felt that whomever set up and filmed that segment chose the exact spot to be controversial. I'm no fan of Palin's but any criticism should be for the tv station/network that set this piece up.
BTW, I voted for Obama, but I'm feeling very disappointed by his corrupt, lobbyist/insider selections for his cabinet. Those who fancy themelves thinking beings, would better spend their time speaking out against Obama's flip flopping on his campaign promises, than in rolling around in the "bash Palin" gutter.
In Videos: Sarah Palin Interview with Turkey Slaughter in Background
Hmmm turkeys being killed near Thanksgiving is news?, lol, just goes to show which direction MSNBC leans....heck, they lean anymore ,and they will fall over!, as for Mrs. Palin being attractive...ohhhh mamma!, wish i were able to attract women that look like her!.
In Videos: Sarah Palin Interview with Turkey Slaughter in Background
Again for those who cannot read I could care less about where she is, it is what she is saying which sounds like blah blah blah and government and blah blah blah campaign trail blah blah. I bet the turkey was a better speaker. Forget the turkey listen to the words coming out of her mouth. It is inane, rambling crap. That you can listen to from months ago, the woman is a bobblehead doll.
In Videos: Sarah Palin Interview with Turkey Slaughter in Background
And another thing... she is NOT attractive. I don't understand why people continue to speak of her as a good looking woman. She looks like a man who went thru a sex-change operation, and the closer you look the scarier she appears.

This video would have been better if it featured Sarah Palin shooting turkeys from a helicopter.

So she pardoned a turkey at a turkey farm. Where would you expect to find turkeys, Bed Bath & Beyond?
Fascfoo, your point is based on the assumption that she should have, anyone should have, found the slaughter distasteful and something to be hidden away, out of sight. But if she doesn't share that point of view-- as I don't-- then she's not "clueless" for not having the reaction of those who do. Again, it's no worse to stand in front of a food processing plant than a steel mill-- if you assume that both are worthy industries.
