Nobody in my family likes sweet potatoes but me. But they are always on the Thanksgiving table in a huge gratin dish!!

Sweet potato gratin with chile spiced pecans. I just can't get enough sweet potatoes this time of year.

Condiments in ... Puerto Rico: Mayoketchup

In Utah it's the condiment of choice. It's called fry sauce.

Cook the Book: 'Put 'em Up!'

I live in a rural area so canning has just been a way of life. A lot of times I feel like it's too much work so it's kind of funny that it's so stylish. I like our homemade and canned spaghetti sauce better than store bought.

'Top Chef Masters' Finale: And The Winner Is...

I've loved all the Top Chef shows from the start but I do think the editing is getting very confusing. Yes, it is a "reality show" and they have to build drama but I think the producers have forgotten who their core audience is. I don't watch " The Hills" or "Survivor", I watch Top Chef because I'm interested in cooking. I do find the drama entertaining especially in the regular Top Chef, but I find it almost insulting to edit drama between real cooking pros. If Samuelsson was really the winner, how about some scenes of the judges going gaga over his food instead of ones showing them making faces over fall apart fish. We can handle the truth.

Are There Foods You Can't Keep In The House?

I agree Moibec , Nutella is crack. And Doritos. Can you imagine the intense research that went into perfecting its irresistability? I also have a problem with supermarket bakery cakes with the sickly sweet frosting.

Cook the Book: 'Ready for Dessert'

In my old age I've found I prefer pie to sickly sweet cake, cookies , etc. If I have to pick one it would be a perfect apple pie that I made myself. There's a bit of ego stroking in that.

Peanut soup at Colonial Williamsburg. I was from Utah and had no clue you could make soup from peanuts. Probably one of my first big foodie revelations.

What Foods Are Banned from Your Office?

I co-own a cleaning company that cleans office buildings and I would LOVE to comment. There are two major complaints that I always get from my janitors. The first is people shelling sunflower seeds or peanuts at their desks. No matter how careful they try to be there is always an explosion of little bits of shell all over the cubicle. The second is people who get very large convenience store fountain drinks and then only drink a little of it and dump it in their little cubicle trash cans. Janitors don't have time or the desire to refile through every trash can to find these "bombs". These drinks splash at least two or three janitors a week. Plus they get on the carpet and furniture and usually require the janitor to wash out and dry out the garbage can. Now, I get it, we're janitors, it's our job to clean up after people. But there is the question of respect. Simple respect for your fellow human being. As for any other food, it's fine. Just use common sense. When you lived at home with your mom, she most certainly slapped, spanked or screamed at you if you were eating cake , let some of it fall on the floor and rolled over it in your chair smashing it into the carpet. Right?

Seriously Delicious Holiday Giveaway: Zingerman's Praise the Lard Gift Box

During Christmastime the neighbors usually exchange plates of cookies and candy, but a couple of years ago one neighbor dropped off a special package on Christmas Eve. It was bacon from the pigs they raised that year. They were really proud of it because they cured it themselves. And it was so good. We had planned a huge breakfast for Christmas and that bacon, fried up super crisp was gone before the cinnamon rolls.
