Lexington, KY: Exceptional Doughnuts from Spalding's

Spalding's its an almost weekly trip for our family, we live an hour south of Lexington and leave about 5:30am to get there in time to beat the morning rush...hopefully. There is nothing better than to walk out into the chilly fall morning with the heat of the still warm doughnuts seeping though that white box in one hand and a pint of milk in the other.

NCAA Final Four: Which Team Wins for Best Food Town?

Spaldings and Ramsay's...sssiiggh what a combo. Ramsay's Hot Brown is to die for all melted cheese and white gravy and let's not forget the meatloaf Oh man....there is nothing better for breakfast than hot Spalding's glazed doughnuts that have a slight crunch to the glaze, but bring cash as they only accept cash at Spalding's. Also be prepared to wait as there is always a line, once they are sold out the close up for the morning what ever time that happens to be.

Which is your Favorite/Least Favorite Culinary Herb?

Tarragon is fantastic is a good beef stew!

most favorite fresh herb would have to be thyme followed up by garlic in any form.

Least favorite would have to be rosemary -BUT I do enjoy the taste just not the stabbing of the twigs in my mouth...bleack!

How Much Should You Tip on Pizza Delivery?

Tipping is a gratuity...MW dictionary states a gratuity is "something given voluntarily or beyond obligation usually for some service; especially : tip" now if it is VOLUNTARILY then you as a waiter/delivery person etc have NO right to demand ANY monies for doing your job. If you take a job delivering pizza you knew going in that it is your responsibility to provide gas to do your job. It is not incumbent on me as a customer to foot the bill for you to compete your job. I did my part when I engaged the services of the pizza business you are working for (for which YOU have chosen to work for), the cost of the pizza is all I pay for. If the business I use includes free (or I pay if they charge a fee and I still order) delivery, it is not MY responsibility to subsidize your paycheck via a tip to receive my order. I completed my part of the contract and paid the quoted price to get my pizza -made correctly, hot with all sides in tow- to my house just as if I went to pick it up myself. Your issue should be with your boss not me as a customer.

I do not get extra money from my customers at my job to complete my job. They pay for their drinks and unlike the above pizza worker I make sure EVERY order is completed above and beyond to the best of my ability to make sure they exit with the best total experience possible no matter if I get a tip or not. No matter if they are the finest customer or the dregs from the bottom of the barrel. The tip is not in the picture for me as I am being paid to provide a quality product by my company, I am not being paid to act like a 1st grader who is pouting because they did not get what they think they are entitled to for doing their job.

I expect no tip and when I do receive a tip I am thankful for literally every penny I get because I understand that my customers who do leave a tip worked their butts off to not only purchase their items but for the tip they have left as well. Never have I stood there looking at them waiting for them to drop me a tip. I've made no suggestions looking for a tip. Never. Not once.

I work hard for my money and *I* get to decide what I do with it not some dude standing at my front door thinking that just because they completed a trip to my house as part of the job they accepted they are *due* a tip.

Microplane Zester-why do you hurt me when I love you so much?

The best thing I have found for my Microplane is to use it to grate frozen butter for making biscuits, scones, or pie crusts. It makes this lovely pile of butter that looks like mounds of snow. It also makes for a cool presentation at dinner ;)

Video: The Cereal Sifter

Cereal dust has got to be the nastiest thing in the world...nothing spoils a bowl of Apple Jacks quicker than to be at the end of the box and tip it just a little to far and there plopping into your bowl of apple-y goodness is the dreaded dust....BLLLLEACK!

When Is It Socially Acceptable to Share Food?

I normally don't mind sharing a bite (usually with the husband or very good friends) but don't dive-bomb my plate and just take...you might come back missing a digit or limb >:)

From Talk

Do you have a recipe you won't share?

I for the most part don't share but I will make anything I make that someone who has eaten wants. I always tell they I'll make it anytime but most always don't give out the recipe...there are a few that I will share but not many.
