Cook the Book: Soft Molasses Cookies

The recipe from which this was adapted is here: http://www.kingarthurflour.com/recipes/soft-ginger-molasses-cookies-and-ginger-syrup-recipe

Directions say:
8) Bake them for 10 minutes. The centers will look soft and puffy; that's OK.
9) Remove the cookies from the oven, and cool them on the pan for 10 minutes before transferring them to a rack to cool completely.

Cook the Book: Cranberry and White Chocolate Cookies

These look good, but I just made a huge batch of these cranberry/white choc cookies" and am addicted. As are all of my friends. The brandy does the trick!

Watch It with Us: 'The Next Food Network Star' Season 5 Finale

minstrel - totally agree. I'm 23 and single, so I felt totally not part of her audience! But funny enough, I was way more down to make her recipe than Jeffrey's.

I have an awful confession to make. Jeffrey's hair and his signature LA-orange skin tone really really REALLY bother me.

If Melissa toned it down and was less intense she would be even better!

Is Los Angeles the Best Jewish Deli Town?

Confession: I once drove 25 miles at 2am to Canters because I was craving that pastrami so badly. One of the only places I've had pastrami that gets close to Katz's!

The 20 Dishes you need to know

Wow this is a great thread. Until now, I used food blogs' "how to..." posts for inspiration of new techniques, dishes and ingredients to use. I've been learning all these new things with strange random ingredients and missing some of the basics. Adding to my list lasagna, risotto, fritatta.

Related - the most economical cooks make the basics (& sometimes freeze) instead of buying: jam, broth, pasta sauces, etc.

Right now I seem to be only freezing soups. But it's a start!

What are your favorite products from Trader Joe's?

Everyone's talking about the frozen items, and they really are amazing. When you are lazy, but don't want to dish out $10-$15 on takeout. I'm addicted to the frozen gnocchi a la sorrentina. Tastes almost as good as at my favorite Italian restaurant! My roomie loves the frozen pasta with roasted red pepper sauce.

And you can't forget all the different grain selections, like quinoa, and the blends, and more.

And oh, the raspberry maple granola. YUM.

Butternut Squash Soup recipe w/out cream

Wow! Thanks so much for all the suggestions. I love how the food blogging (& commenting) community is always so giving. Maybe I should crowdsource all of my kitchen conundrums. I'll report back once I give it a shot.
