The Stuffalo: A Buffalo-Chicken-Stuffed -Crust Pizza

this might be the greatest thing i've ever heard of

From Serious Eats

'Top Chef' Season 5, Episode 13: Mardi Gras in N'Awlins with Emeril Lagasse

Carla has come into her own nicely. I wasn't thrilled with her theatrics early in the season, but her upbeat attitude and comic responses to difficult circumstances was refreshing compared to the other competitors' self-entitled whining.

Hosea ran out of steam; Stefan's technical aptitude is obvious but his arrogance tends to trump the food he makes. I'm not certain that's a good enough reason for him to lose, though.

From Serious Eats

'Top Chef' Season 5, Episode 7: Toby Young Rocks

I felt bad for Melissa but I was really waiting for the episode when she'd be kicked off. She seems like a nice girl but not nearly as effective a contender as she needed to be, even to have lasted this long. I was concerned that Eugene would be allowed to stay yet again over Carla. I don't have an affinity for either one of them but I feel as though Carla's food has been more consistent while Eugene's brash personality and arrogance makes for better TV.

Speaking of arrogance, I agree with the majority of the commenters about Toby Young. He seemed more interested in throwing out forced metaphors/similies that he probably thought were clever, than critiquing the food. I am also annoyed by the editing because Young's self-indulgent remarks overshadowed the more food-appropriate comments from the other judges.

Piss off, Toby!

WTF? Leave Co. Alone, People

I'm curious as to why the first accusation that Adam and Lahey are friends was subsequently followed with an insistence that Lahey's paying him off. Whose friends make them pay for a favor? Apparently that commenter's.

As to his/her identity, I would first suspect someone who has a vested interest in Co. rather than a rival because controversy draws publicity. And given the irate nature of the comments and the absurd personal accusations, the end result is having the integrity of Adam's positive review reinforced. On the other hand, it could just as easily be someone throwing a hissy fit :)

Kudos on the diplomatic responses, Adam.

Seriously Delicious Holiday Giveaway: Edible Chocolate Box from Charles Chocolates

fao schweetz is long gone but they used to make a dessert that consisted of a chocolate toy chest that opened to reveal dollops of ice cream and classic toys [teddy bear, blocks, etc] all made of chocolate. it was the perfect blend of chocolate and whimsy

Im with apizzagirl this is just the beginning of endless possibilities. What about chicken cordon bleu pizza. chicken stuffed crust with a ham, and shredded swiss or possibily gureyer.

From Slice

Good Idea, and I bet it's tasty too, but why put yourself thru all that extra work tucking them into the crust when you can just pile all those lovely morsels of buffalo chicken right on top where they're meant to be :o) and ENJOY!

"So outside of toast or PB&J, are we supposed to feel sorry for you?" Toby Young wishes he thought of that one. Bam!

'Top Chef' Season 5, Episode 13: Mardi Gras in N'Awlins with Emeril Lagasse

Fabio was robbed last night. I am sick of the piss poor attitude of Stephan. I liked him in the begininng, but I am just tired of his attitude, much like Leah's. He made the comment that Hosea's gumbo was gross or disgusting (or something close to that) and yet the judges, Emeril included found his to be far superior. Stephan doesn't have the ability or maturity to be good on his own merit, he constantly has to blast the other chefs to play up his own food. Why not just be good on your own? Carla did a nice job, and she might end up winning. I don't know about Hosea.....

'Top Chef' Season 5, Episode 13: Mardi Gras in N'Awlins with Emeril Lagasse

My heart was broken last night...as I anxiously held hands with my husband and waited for the judges decision. I have rooted for Stephan most of the season, but his arrogant attitude has soured me towards him. I don't care how well he cooks...Top Chef is more than cooking; it is the entire package! Shame on the judges for sending Fabio home. He cooks from his heart, and IS a TOP CHEF. Stephan is not above taking the shortcut and using prepared sausage...unlike Jeff who made it from scratch....

The finale should not be including Stephan. I truly feel the producers made this decision...he is the Chef you love to hate. It was a sad night to see Fabio go...Finale should have been Hosea, Carla and Fabio.

I don't think I will even watch the finale next week, and it will be the first episode I have missed in all 5 seasons.

'Top Chef' Season 5, Episode 13: Mardi Gras in N'Awlins with Emeril Lagasse

my feeling is that carla, jeff and hosea were the best.... but carla was maybe a little better than jeff and so thats how it had to go down. so sorry to see jeff gone. and let me say this, im sorry, stefan may be the best, i dont know..... but with his poor attitude... i wouldnt want to hand over my money to sit and eat at someones restaurant who was like that.

and again top chef is just that 'top in all things'. ( but i do wonder what kind of boss he is). best of luck to all.

'Top Chef' Season 5, Episode 13: Mardi Gras in N'Awlins with Emeril Lagasse

Wasn't one of the criticisms of the Euro Boys that they just didn't have soul? That's something that Carla certainly has in buckets.
Nonetheless, it seems that Stephan is (arguably) the best cook left. I think his attitude may keep him from running an efficient kitchen. Seems that Carla could rally her troops much more easily.
And, yep, Hosea comes in as an also ran...

From Serious Eats

'Top Chef' Season 5, Episode 13: Mardi Gras in N'Awlins with Emeril Lagasse

I think Fabio could have edged out if he had like the judges said "rimmed the glasses with spice"
Seemed like the cocktails were overlooked a bit and that could have given his entire selection just enough kick yet let him keep his Italian flair intact.

Plus BREAD! Come on!

I'm for Carla also. By the way, what happened to Tom's favorite quick-fire challenge: The Relay?

From Serious Eats

'Top Chef' Season 5, Episode 13: Mardi Gras in N'Awlins with Emeril Lagasse

Now could you only imagine if Carla DID drink...she'd really be the life of the party! j/k...This was a good episode with GREAT food (I wanted to try rverything!). Sad to see Fabio go, but based on food alone - I think they made the best decision.

From Serious Eats

'Top Chef' Season 5, Episode 13: Mardi Gras in N'Awlins with Emeril Lagasse

As twists go...it was cool to see the last three booted contestants come back and try for a spot. I heartily agreed with the concept of getting to the finale means you MUST WIN the Elimination Challenge...step up or step out! I am sad to see Fabio go....I really wanted Hosea gone tonight...but darn he stepped up and made really good food....so then I was I rooting for Stephan to go (I never really thought Jeff had a chance)...he was such a pain tonight. On the bright side...now I can openly root (and Hootie Hoo) for Carla---if Fabio was in the mix it would have been a case of splitting my loyalties.....

From Serious Eats

'Top Chef' Season 5, Episode 13: Mardi Gras in N'Awlins with Emeril Lagasse

i would have preferred to see stefan go. fabio had a lot more passion going into it and i think he did equally as well. i hate that stefan squeaked by because he'll probably win the whole thing and doesn't deserve it one bit. i'm rooting for carla, and was bummed jeff had to take the top spot to make the finale or go home, because i really think he turned himself around in terms of editing and focus. too little too late, i suppose.

From Serious Eats

'Top Chef' Season 5, Episode 13: Mardi Gras in N'Awlins with Emeril Lagasse

Though I am normally always rooting for Stephan, this week, I was horribly disappointed in the judges. I thought for sure they would give the elimination challenge win to Jeff. Wouldn't that have been wild?! But I think the judges eliminated Jeff because they want to see what Stephan will do in the final round. I want to think that he is playing it risky so that he can pull out the stops next week, but at the same time I think that he might really just be an arrogant jerk!

From Serious Eats

'Top Chef' Season 5, Episode 13: Mardi Gras in N'Awlins with Emeril Lagasse

i might of called Padma a not so nice name when she told Fabio to pack his knives... mohawk and all, i have a major cruch on that guy! I definitly think he should get his own show somehow...
Stefan should have gone home... he obviously seemed to be above it all. i loved Tom's eye roll at him...

and could they have drawn out the decision any longer? It had to be a full thirty seconds of the tense "who's going home" music.. its very uncomfortable to watch...

im on carla's team. i think she is a great chef and just has so much personality and deserves the win...

***pumping my fists in the air*** WOOT!! GO CARLA!!!

I did one of those "I'm just going to close my eyes during this commerical break" and fell asleep just before they announced who won and who was going home. I'm so pumped Carla won!!! She's so fun and proving herself to be so talented. And she seems like a genuinely nice person. I am sorry to see Fabio go home. His commentary has been hilarious! Maybe he could just come back and narrate the next season of Top Chef...or get his own show.

From Serious Eats

'Top Chef' Season 5, Episode 13: Mardi Gras in N'Awlins with Emeril Lagasse

Stefan has been coasting for weeks. He, not Fabio, deserved to be sent home. If anybody else had cooked those dishes, they for sure would have been sent home.

From Serious Eats

'Top Chef' Season 5, Episode 13: Mardi Gras in N'Awlins with Emeril Lagasse

I love Carla!  She seems to really love what she is doing - even when things don't go well, she seems happy to be there and learning
from the situation.  She works her ass off but enjoys it.  She is the
opposite of Leah who seemed  pissed off every time she had to
try something new, which was a lot.

From Serious Eats

'Top Chef' Season 5, Episode 13: Mardi Gras in N'Awlins with Emeril Lagasse

I think the laid back Stefan needed to go, Fabio should have stayed he had more passion to get it right. I'm surprised Carla didn't think to steam those oysters when she was having such a hard time schucking them.

'Top Chef' Season 5, Episode 13: Mardi Gras in N'Awlins with Emeril Lagasse

Does TVFN own bam! like it owns yummo?

I suspect they've been hiding Carla's ability from the viewers all season to make it seem like Stefan and/or Fabio had it in the bag.

From Serious Eats

'Top Chef' Season 5, Episode 13: Mardi Gras in N'Awlins with Emeril Lagasse

I was disappointed that Jeff didn't make the elimination challenge.
Although perhaps cocky at times in the past, this time and in other challenges later in the season, Jeff seemed to have the hang dog determination to try and make things work. In some ways it seemed as if he was seeking his vision of cooking...edit, edit, edit. and this time he did. Sad he didn't make it. Stefan stifles me with his Euro arrogance. Fabio; I wish he had just added a bit more heat to his dishes to entice the judges to choose him over Stefan. And hey, anyone who bakes me a nice loaf of bread is a ten in my books.
Carla; nice to see someone who can do a nice job in the pastry/sweet department but also really knows how to hit those with a craving for savory and spicy cuisine. Well rounded chef...much applause!
