Drink This: 5 New Cocktails from JBird in NYC

At first I was excited to see a new quality cocktail bar/lounge in midtown but then their reservations only policy dashed any plans of going there.

Snapshots from Sweden: Strawberry Season

My first reaction was: "why do they sell New York potatoes in Sweden??". Then my elementary Swedish came back to me and I realized that NY means NEW. I hope you're getting your fill of ny potatis while there too!

How to Make No-Cook Freezer Jam

With the appearance of strawberries at the farmers market, I'm definitely in the mood to give this a try.
Where can I find pectin - at most grocery stores? I've never noticed it (though maybe because I've never looked for it).

Beer Profiteroles with Chocolate-Beer Sauce

What happens with the "hot" ice cream after step #2? Do we just put it in the freezer to chill?

Snapshots from Germany: Sülze (AKA Head Cheese)

Mmmm, sült is a standard on any Estonian holiday or party buffet table. Usually made with pork and eaten with a bit of horseradish or a dash of vinegar.

When I try to explain it to my American friends as pork jello, they usually grimace. Their loss!

Bruni's Born Round

While I was (am) a big fan of the Bruni-meister, his book left me feeling "meh".
I just finished it last night so it will take a little time to digest (no pun intended...well, maybe a little) before I can put my finger on what left me so ambivalent. I do agree though, that the publicity around the book had me expecting a 300 lb Bruni.

Standing Room Only: Tierra Caliente

Mmm, even while I'm eating breakfast this looks deelish.

FYI - The map still points to 402 N. Ashland.

Cooking with Beer: Slow Cooker Rauchbier Pulled Chicken

What if I don't have a slow-cooker?
Should it just simmer (covered) on the stove for 4-5 hours?

French in a Flash: Cod en Papillote

I'm jumping on the dead fly bandwagon. That's the 1st thing I noticed in the photo.
After scraping off the dead fly, I'm sure the cod is deelish.
I may try it tomorrow.

Reservations and Deposits: Necessary, or Harmful to Restaurants?

Maybe the restaurant could create a "No-dine" list for those who make a reservation and then don't have the courtesy to call in a cancellation. Should be easy if the reservation books are electronic to keep track of habitual no-shows.

Hot Dogs from Blue Light in Provincetown, Massachusetts

How can you write a post about the Blue Light without mentioning their lobster rolls??
Hands down favorite lobster roll in Ptown.

Should Restaurants Be Allowed To Ban Laptops?

I think it boils down to whether the laptop user is using the cafe as an office/workspace or not.
Surfing the web for 20 minutes while having a cup of coffee is not really different than reading a newspaper while enjoying that coffee.
But when someone sets up shop in a cafe, whether its with a laptop or a pile of textbooks or papers, they better be continually spending money at that establishment.

Dinner Tonight: Pasta with Corn, Arugula, and Tomatoes

Another dish with arugula? How elitist.
(Kidding.)
Will definitely hit Un Square tomorrow for some corn and tomatoes.
