I made marshmallows one time. They were friggin' awesome.
Seriously Delicious Giveaway: Zingerman's Gift Certificate
Buffalo mozzarella in a caprese salad, Sage cheddar in sandwiches, Limburger on occasion! Almost any cheese, really.
Seriously Delicious Holiday Giveaway: A Year of Chocolate
Milk chocolate reminds me of childhood & halloween- always a good mood booster, but dark is so much more complex of a flavor- so much more decadent... hmmm... I'm going to have to say both. One in each cheek, sometimes!

Cook the Book: 'My Last Supper'
my mom's charro beans, red pork tamales, spanish rice, a simple tossed salad, green chile chicken enchiladas, hatch green chile rellenos, tostadas compuestas, chunky guacamole, that salsa my uncle makes with the shrimp & avocado, all the salsas my family makes for that matter, some panicitos, a little herra dura, some bohemia beer...

What's your favorite way to use Thanksgiving leftovers?
I know this is a little late, but, turkey salad in my family goes like this: Mix chunked romaine lettuce, seeded tomato, red onion, avocado, mayo and a splash of lemon juice in with the turkey bits. Salt & pepper to taste. Serve in fried flour tortilla bowls.
Cook the Book: 'Beyond Nose to Tail' Contest
Geez... Pozole is usually made with pork roast, sometimes chicken.
MENUDO is made with tripe.
Sorry about the mistake. I love them both! :c)
Cook the Book: 'Beyond Nose to Tail' Contest
I was born & raised in Southern New Mexico, so much of the offal I've had has been typical of the hispanic culture. I grew up eating tongue/lengua "sandwhiches" (lonches), fried chicken gizzards dusted with chile powder & scrambled egg and cow brain burritos with my Grandfather. My favorite, though, would have to be pozole. It's a kind of soup made with hominy and tripe. We eat it with New Mexican red chile sauce, diced onions, lime & oregano. My mouth waters just thinking about it.
Houston's Doesn't Suck: What's Your Favorite Slightly Fancy Chain Restaurant?
Maggiano's Little Italy would have to be my favorite. Their appetizers are deliciously and carefully prepared, so ordering their Bombalina Platter (i.e. sampler) is wonderful. It has stuffed mushrooms, zucchini fritte, bruschetta, crispy onions & a spniach artichoke al forno w/ foccacia. Yum! I also love their (seasonal) butternut squash ravioli, but if I can't get that, the lobster ravioli is perfect too. A steak & gorgonzola salad later and I can't even look at the dessert menu. Somone will have to let me know! :c)
Houston's Doesn't Suck: What's Your Favorite Slightly Fancy Chain Restaurant?
Hi Ed. I just found this post while trolling the web for Houston's Key Lime Pie recipe/ingredients. I waited tables in the Rockville, MD Houston's from 1993-1995. Having seen Houston's and more than a dozen independently-owned restaurants from the waiter's side of the table, I agree with everyone's positive comments about Houston's. It's one of my go-to spots when I want to treat myself (and I live in Manhattan).
Although more personal non-chain restaurants are great, only Houston's made me memorize each ingredient in every dish before letting me serve a customer. We had line-up every night where we were quizzed on the number of ounces in the coho salmon and the marinade for the Houston's Hawaiin ribeye. I learned how to give 110% to a job and what to expect as a guest in a restaurant.
Houston's Doesn't Suck: What's Your Favorite Slightly Fancy Chain Restaurant?
I love Houston's. Plain and Simple. It's never disappointed and If I was forced to choose a place for my last meal, this would be it. Want to know why?

Cook the Book: 'My Last Supper'
If I knew it was my last meal I would like to have prime rib, baked potato with sour cream, sauted vegetables and chocolate. Chocolate for sure. Having your family around will make it taste even better. Thanks for the contest.

I'd want my best friends around, and we'd eat steak. Really really good steak. Prime rib or delmonico with a red wine and beef reduction. A delicious spinach salad. Some interesting fruity dessert, like the orange cardamom roasted pineapple we had at Solo. Yum.

well, last supper would be on the beach, Cape Cod,served to us...
tacos for my son and a plethora of seafood, cooked all different ways, for my husband and myself...
with a delicious salad, and dessert of creme brulee, sundae or apple crisp for my son.
Cook the Book: 'My Last Supper'
Salmon with goat's cheese and a mixed green salad.
Cook the Book: 'My Last Supper'
With my daughter and wife -Porterhouse steaks, Potato salad and lemon meringue pie
Cook the Book: 'My Last Supper'
My last supper would have to involve my dearest family and friends. Also, because I've been doing the low carb thing, I would have to have all of the starches, pastas, fruits, breads, and desserts possible. Lasagna... spaghetti.... brownies.... fresh baked bread with honey... potatoes.... strawberries.... yum.
Cook the Book: 'My Last Supper'
I went to a special dinner where all that was served were "last meals." Mine would probably be all dessert - banana cream pie, lemon bars, chocolate eclairs and varied italian pastries.
Cook the Book: 'My Last Supper'
The "meal" would be quite eclectic - but would definitely include jumbo king crab legs, a variety of very fresh oysters, a steaming bowl of Pho, a platter of buttery roasted asparagus, wild mushroom risotto, a rack of lamb. filet mignon, grilled Alaskan halibut, linguine with clam sauce, a Cobb salad, authentic tacos with guacamole, blueberry pie, lots of chocolate and of course, Champagne and Beaujolais. I'd want my Mom, sister and her hubby, my "love of my life" husband to join the celebration and my Dad would be there in spirit. And I hope I have enough time left to think of all the yummy things I've forgotten here... By the way, could the last meal please be at least a week long?
Cook the Book: 'My Last Supper'
pork chop and baked potatoes with my family
Cook the Book: 'My Last Supper'
Definitely at home with my family and I might as well have a little of everything if it's my last meal. Maybe some sushi, roast duck, dimsum, kalbi, lumpia, shish kabobs, manapua, malasadas, haupia, mochi, pickled mangoes ...
Cook the Book: 'My Last Supper'
I would eat sushi, lamb chops, pasta, and cheesecake with my fiance on the beach in Hawaii.
Cook the Book: 'My Last Supper'
Steak, shrimp, salmon, loaded tater, corn on the cob, wheat rolls, strawberry/rhubarb pie with ice cream and caramel suce. I'd like to have dinner with the hottest band in the world KISS in NYC.
Cook the Book: 'My Last Supper'
Steak & lobster, a bottle of wine, and George Clooney. Oh yeah!
Cook the Book: 'My Last Supper'
I would love to eat a grilled steak, potato and grilled zucchini oceanside with my best friend!
Cook the Book: 'My Last Supper'
I would eat pizza at home with my best friend
Cook the Book: 'My Last Supper'

Cook the Book: 'My Last Supper'
I would eat pizza at home with my hubby!
Cook the Book: 'My Last Supper'
I would have my mom's chicken and noodles with mashed potatoes and green beans. Then for dessert I would have choclate ice cream. I would want to be enjoying the meal with my family.
Cook the Book: 'My Last Supper'
Taquitos Rancheros, rice and beans, sour cream, chips and salsa.
Cook the Book: 'My Last Supper'
A family meal, of course! I would make a buffet of all the foods I love, especially seafood and rich Italian food. THEN another table with all the deserts that I have missed watching the waistline. There would be music, laughter, tons of food- until that moment struck, and even then, I would want everyone to finish enjoying it all even in my absence!
Cook the Book: 'My Last Supper'
My last supper would have to be a collection of foods - not necessarily in the order that I would eat them - mango gelato, Starbuck's Carmel Macchiatio - vente, please, any Mexican entre from a quality restaurant, Hot N Sour soup from a good Chinese restaurant, cheescake - lots of different flavors! Last, but not least, I would like a glass of water, with a lemon to quench my thirst. Thanks for this opportunity!
