Oysters on the half shell are the pinnacle of fine cuisine, in my not-so-humble opinion.

  • Location: Astoria
  • Favorite foods: Di Fara. Shake Shack, In-N-Out. Kabab Cafe's lamb breast (especially the marrow). The sashimi at Haiku in Bronxville. Split pea and ham soup on cold winter days. Wild Mushroom strudel drizzled with beurre blanc sauce.
  • Last bite on earth: A Shackburger with In-n-out Fries.

Snapshots from Istanbul: Turkish Breakfast Is Awesome

Breakfast was amazing everywhere we went in Turkey. We usually had a huge buffet with all different types of cheeses, jams, fruit, egg dishes, cucumber and tomato salad, olives, hot pepper spread, breads, pastries, coffee and tea, etc. Quite a feast!

Cook the Book: 'Jerusalem: A Cookbook'

I love babaganoush. Also, Adana kebab!

Recommendations for Serious Eats in Turkey

Thanks everyone! Great suggestions!

Eats on the French Riviera (between Nice & Menton)?

I second bouillabaise- Mere Germaine in Villefranche-Sur-Mer is awesome, but expensive. If you like seafood, it's a must have!

Eats on the French Riviera (between Nice & Menton)?

Make sure to have lunch at Mirazur in Menton. Beautiful views, gardens and food! In Nice, try the socca- it's a chickpea crepe served hot with olive oil and lots of pepper. Great gelato at Fennochio with tons of interesting, local flavors. Bon appetit and bon voyage!

Basil Brick Oven: Good Pizza in an Unexpected Part of Astoria

"* No, I will not call it the RFK."

@Adam: Word!

Serious Eats Neighborhood Guides: Adam and Max's Astoria

Sorriso's sandwiches can be hit-or-miss and they are almost always underdressed. I recommend the Goodfellas if the Focaccia looks fresh, and the California Turkey Club with extra sauce. Also, anything with Spicy Capicolla.

The Best Macarons in New York City

Not at all surprised that Laduree takes the cake, but I would say my next favorite is Little Oven! Their cherry blossom macaron is heavenly :-)

Goodbye, Dumpling

Oh my god! I am in tears! I know there is little comfort for such devastation. Dumpling seemed like such a sweetie; he will be deeply missed by us all!

Goodbye, Dumpling

A lovely eulogy. I'm sorry for your loss, Kenji.

Sugar Rush: Little Oven's Cherry Blossom Gateau

I work in Long Island City and have been wanting to check out Little Oven for some time. Your article inspired me, so I went today but alas, there was not cherry blossom gateau. The salesgirl told me that I had to preorder, which seemed wrong. I did try their macarons though- yum!

Hey, NYC: What should I order from Fresh Direct?

I like ordering stuff from the "local" section- Ronnybrook milk, Red Jacket Orchards juices, and some of the local produce. The Pat La Frieda patties are great, and their deli selections (they carry brands like Schaller and Weber) and seafood is always excellent. I also find that they have great deals on wine. Since some of their stuff can be expensive, definitely shop for the Presidents Picks and anything on sale. Also, look for free shipping coupons online.

NYC: My Favorite New Burger, at LIC's Burger Garage

@Adam Kuban
Thanks for the tip. My wife and I enjoyed two double meats w/ cheese last night, and they were glorious. The fries and onion strings were pretty awesome too.

Astoria, Queens, NYC: Thai of convenience

I'm addicted to the Noodle Curry and the Pad Se-ew from Thai Pavillion. Does anyone know of a place that does those dishes better than TP?

New to Astoria, Queens Suggestions Please!

Most of my favorites have already been mentioned but here are a few more to add to the list: Taverna Kyclades for amazingly fresh seafood, Watawa for the best sushi in Astoria, Sal, Kris and Charlie's the Sandwich King for awesome heroes, Little Morocco for an award-winning merguez sausage sandwich, Ornella for the Imbustata....oh, I could just go on and on!!!

Best Halal Carts in Jackson Heights

Sammy's is the gold standard- love it with LOTS of green sauce!

Is Your Pet Named After a Food (or Food Critic)?

I often watch this video of a pug puppy named Sausage Biscuit- he's almost as delicious as his namesake!

Cook the Book: Maryland Crab Soup

I lived in Maryland for awhile and I have to agree with PrettyNicola- very strange, and unappetizing photo!

Do You Have a Favorite Brand of Butter?

L'escure French butter- it has detectable crystals of sea salt, and and slightly cheesy flavor. Delicieux!!!

Have You Ever Deep Fried a Turkey for Thanksgiving?

I haven't experienced any noticeable difference in terms of dryness/texture, but I have found that fried turkey has a blander, almost sweet taste. I prefer the herby flavor of roasted turkey.

Win a Free Organic D'Artagnan Turkey

Wow, this is hard- although it's not very Thanksgiving-y, right now the Potato Gratin with Porcini Mushrooms and Mascarpone Cheese, from 'Bon Appétit' is sounding pretty amazing.

Do You Have a Favorite Mustard?

I find that the Trader Joe's Dijon mustard has a nice, sharp bite to it that I love- Maille and Grey Poupon seem tame and buttery in comparison.

Who Likes Grape Soda?

If you are a grape soda fan, you must try Boylan's Grape Soda! It's so delicious- still has that artificial grape candy flavor, but somehow more intense and less cloyingly sweet than the regular stuff.

food suggestions for a weekend in queens to see the mets...

You should go to Tortilleria Nixtamal in Corona, and make sure to get some yummy carnitas!

Recommendations for Serious Eats in Turkey

My husband and I are leaving tomorrow for a 16 day vacation to Turkey (and side trip to Greece). We would love your advice about must-try dishes and amazing restaurants. We will be traveling on the Mediterranean Coast near Fethiye, Ephesus/Sirince, Pamukkale, Cappadocia and Istanbul. Thanks!
